Rating: Summary: A historical fiction epic Review: From the first page of Into the Wilderness I was hooked.. For two days I was a voyerager in time in upstate New York. As I reflect on the novel now I am still amazed at the scope of the world and its peoples that the author was able to create. It was really fun to read and see what next event or crisis the characters would confront. I have read several tear-jerker stories recently and I was so grateful that the author was able to work through the story without killing off any of my favorite characters- I must confess to being worried several times though. I am planning to buy this book to have in my personal library.
Rating: Summary: great, breath taking, passionate, realistic, engrossing, Review: when i saw this book was recomended by diana gabaldon i knew it had to be at the very least passable. when i realized it was the continuation of last of the mohicans i could barely hand it over to the clerk to pay for it. but when i started to read it it was beyond my wildest expectations, dreams or fantacies!!! the first 200 pages are so passionate that i found breathing difficult. my "good sister" will curse me for saying this but into the wilderness was/is better than outlander! if anyone knows of any book that can tide me over until MS. donati publishes her next book i would appreciate the suggestion! if anyone knows where Ms. donati is signing her book let me KNOW!!!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful read Review: I couldn't put it down. Historical fiction at its best.
Rating: Summary: IT CAN'T COMPARE TO OUTLANDER Review: I FOUND IT A BORING READ, AND ACTUALLY RETURNED IT WHEN I HAD READ ABOUT SEVENTY FIVE PAGES. I AM AN HISTORICAL ROMANCE WRITER (SOON TO HAVE A BOOK OUT) AND HAVE READ BETTER AUTHORS. SUSAN JOHNSON D MARY BALOUGH, JUDITH MCNAUGHT ALL COME TO MIND AS BEING FAR MORE EXCITING WRITERS. DO YOU WANT A REAL FINE REGENCY HISTORICAL? READ MCNAUGHT'S WHITNEY, MY LOVE. THIS WAS HER FIRST HISTORCAL AND VERY WELL WRITTEN!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS WELL WRITTEN GIVING INSIGHT INTO EARLY AMERICA Review: thought this book is an interesting continuation of LAST OF THE MOHICANS. All lovers of the movie will find this very exciting.
Rating: Summary: I savored every page of this book! Review: Every day I looked forward to reading this book and I was glad it was a LONG book. Excellent research along with the story.
Rating: Summary: HISTORY, THE SETTLING OF OUR COUNTRY AND ROMANCE! LOVED IT! Review: I have not read a book so intense in the settling of our country's northeast ever! The romance as well as the history was intriging. Have passed it on and they are hooked & even stopped to call the say WHERE DID YOU FIND THIS TREASURE?!? A MUST READ!!!
Rating: Summary: Stupendous and transporting. Review: Donati has accomplished an extraordinary feat--an epic adventure that covers a broad span of place and history that remains a rivetingly daily, human story. Even minor characters are so real that you 'd swear you can feel them breathing over your shoulder as you turn the pages. I loved Elizabeth and Nathaniel, who are very much of their place and time and yet, who speak to our time and whose love and dilemmas we can find echos of now, in the 1990s. This is a book that does it all: page turner, historical fiction, real literature and human drama.
Rating: Summary: Rich! Enthralling! Infuriating! Review: I hate Sara Donati - she's just too darn good at this sweeping historical novel thing. And a first time novel, too?! Sheesh! Makes the rest of us budding novelists green with envy. Wonder how I could manage to slip a little poison in her chamomile tea?Oh, sure, buy the book. Enjoy yourself. Have a wonderful time. I did. And I hated every luscious minute of it. So. When's the blasted sequel coming out? Soon? If so, I'll just explode in envy and anticipation! Oh, and Sara? Here's your #@*(@&%& five stars. <heavy sigh...>
Rating: Summary: exemplary historical fiction Review: This is an outstanding book. I cannot understand readers who compare it to Gabaldon and find it lacking. The story is riveting from the first page, and Elizabeth and Nathaniel are -- as Diana Gabaldon has said herself -- wonderful. This is not a traditional romance, that it true. It is much more than that, intelligently and beautifully written.
