Rating: Summary: Great story, very satisfying reading. Review: This is the book for those who loved the movie "Last of the Mohicans." The story continues in 1792...and it is rich in characters and adventure.
Rating: Summary: I Could Not Put This Book Down!!! Review: A customer at a local bookstore saw me reading the jacket of this book and told me it was her favorite book of all time. I bought it on her suggestion and I wish I could thank her. After three days of solid reading I could not put it down. Did anyone else fall in love with Nathanial? Now Im waiting for the sequel!!!!
Rating: Summary: Very exciting historical romance Review: This was a great book and I loved it. A fan of James Fenmore Cooper's "Last of the Mohicans" I was thrilled to find a book that was a close sequel. Nathaniel and Elizabeth are characters that you can easily relate to and Nathaniel is a definate keeper!! His strong personality, sense of honor and his ability to take care of Elizabeth and his family make him the kind of man every woman wants! The love scenes were great too! This book is a real page turner and I had a hard time putting it down. Please hurry with the sequel!
Rating: Summary: Captivating Story From Begining To End ! Review: I am a history buff of this particular time peroid and having read all of the Leatherstocking tales find this story just as good. Sara you have written a truely wonderful book. Having read historical fiction from such greats as Vardis Fisher to Harvey Fergusson to A.B. Guthrie Jr. your book stands tall even among such greats. Having just discovered your previous work I am off to find a copy of Homestead.
Rating: Summary: TOPS! Review: Great read! The author gets into each main character so that you get to know them. It is exciting and holds your attention with every turn of the page but it also has its very tender moments. It's a feel-good because so far the bad guys get their just reward. It's a book you cannot put down, but at the same time you do not want it to end. I look forward to the sequel in Fall 1999.
Rating: Summary: Absorbing historical novel Review: This book was hard to put down even after a second read. There are too few novels set in this time period. Ms. Donati really found a way to make the post-revolutionary period interesting, captivating, and beautiful. Her characters are well-rounded and real. The author herself writes originally, which is a treat these days with all the "formula" novels on the bookstore shelves This is one to always have on your bookshelf, and to treasure.
Rating: Summary: very good for the genre Review: I just finished this book and I have to say that I enjoyed it as much as the "Outlander" series, in a different way. I found the characters of Elizabeth and Nathanial less developed, but more believable (and likable) than Claire and Jamie. I am looking forward to reading part 2. If you enjoy historical fiction dealing with American Indians, try reading "Red Heart" by Thom.
Rating: Summary: A great read. One of the most addicting books I've read. Review: I loved the movie, "Last of the Mohicans". I tried to read J.F. Cooper's book ... how very frustrating and disappointing (the screen adapters should get extra acclaim for making such a good movie out of it). Donati's book satisified a need I had for more of the same. I found the characters to be well developed and engaging. And, yes, I did like the sex scenes. I don't normally read romance novels. But, I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. ONE COMPLAINT: Donati gave the son the father's name from the Cooper original. Nathaniel was the name of the main character in the movie/book. It's ashame she felt the need to re-cast the name onto the son. It did annoy me a bit.
Rating: Summary: An enticing and passionate story of survival and love Review: I picked the book up on a whim at the local library, initially intrigued by the title and the map of the "wilderness". I was hooked almost immediately and actually am dreading the end of the novel (I've got about 100 pages to read.) Although the story focuses on two characters who fall in love, the romance occurs quickly and the author has the time, therefore, to develop the real relationship that must occur between these two very different people. Sara Donati is able to do that. Her descriptions of setting are vivid-- you do feel like you are there, but she is also able to share Elizabeth's and Nathaniel's thoughts as they attempt to fit together as a couple. It was refreshing to watch the passion that simmers underneathe, that pulls both of them into something which is not initially anticipated or wanted. I have not been compelled by a story like this since the Thornbirds of so many years ago. I am convinced that the really good stories must be about real people and how they deal with life. I, too, can't wait for the sequel.
Rating: Summary: FAIR, FOR A FIRST EFFORT Review: Dispite a few flagrant errors that I would attribute to the author being a "First Timer" this book does have a decent story line and very good characters. She uses a few reference to "The Outlander" saga as a tribute(?) The main character of Elizabeth however, left me cold and I never managed to make a true conection with her. All in all a tolarable book which indicates the posibillity of better things to come from the author, but 'Dianna Gabaldon' she's not.
