Rating: Summary: Wonderfully researched expose on media bias Review: I was thorougly impressed by the level of detail that Ann went into. Great book. It's actually scary to realize how biased the media is - it's a wonder that we've been able to get the likes of Reagan, Bush (W), et al elected, given the way the media attacks. I knew some of this stuff, but not nearly what is revealed here. Required reading for anyone concerned about politics in America.
Rating: Summary: WHAT AN AMAZING WOMAN ! WHAT A GREAT READ ! Review: Ann Coulter is like the mythological cat. I've read that the Egyptian Book of the Dead portrays the benevolent sun god, Ra, in the form of a spotted cat slaying the evil serpent of darkness. Further, the goddess Bast was depicted as a cat, representing both the sun and the moon, with emphasis on the reflecting light of the sun, through the moon, providing the life giving light and warmth of the sun in the darkness of night. She is also depicted as holding the serpent of darkness at bay with bloody tooth and claw and as such was referred to as the 'Tearer' or 'Renderer'. In Rome, the cat was considered as both the guardian spirit of a household, and the symbol of liberty. Such is the case in Ann's relentless pursuit of the truth and her fervent passion for setting the record straight for the liberal minded BS artists amongst us out there. She is beautiful, elegant, intelligent, eloquent, and has a razor sharp wit. She presents herself in writing with clarity, purpose, and magnificent sarcasm - she is a very entertaining read. If Ann Coulter is a fan of country western music - she is most likely the most perfect woman on earth. While I admit a tiny gender bias and think that Toby Keith single-handedly resuscitated the nearly dead American Male, I'll give her Terri Clark as favorite entertainer. If you love your country, hold dear your constitution, and fervently believe in American traditions and institutions, you owe it to yourself to read Ann's material. I promise you will be enlightened, while being most thoroughly entertained.
Rating: Summary: A disgrace for the Republicans. Review: It is slander alright. Slander against anyone who is not a hardcore Republican; and against even thoughtful Republicans. "Then why complain and whine about slander in general and Democratic invectives in particular?", the reader wonders. Personally, I do find a bias in the media. There is a bias against bad and wrong; anyone doing bad is looked down upon. We have to strive to be on the good side. Not slander the cultivated good tastes of the public that is indicative of the media. The best way to guard against the media bias is to do the right thing. (A murderer should not complain that the media has resorted to comedy at his expense.) Also, discussion in the public realm involves bringing evidence to support one's position; rather than resort to vitriol that we are so very well used to. Let's take the issue of Gays in the military -- Coulter comes down heavily on this issue and slanders Clinton for it. Not being a Gay myself, I would like to know what, if any, factor that would disqualify a Gay from defending his/her country. Rather than provide rightful arguments supporting or opposing this issue, all that Coulter has to offer, is slander. When slander is high, information content is low indeed; tends to zero. This book resorts to rhetoric which only serves to poison people's minds -- and hearts. As such, it is a disgrace for the Republicans; for it disgraces them more than the people it was intended to disgrace. I hope they condemn this approach and take a positive one in the future.
Rating: Summary: Notice the pattern... Review: I was a little late to the party because I don't get much time to read... Let me say this... ...to centrists or the undecided as to where you lie politically, this is a staggering work which will at the least give you a hearty belly laugh and a perspective on how the "enlightened" left and "mean old" right really work. This is not laid out as a matter of opinion...the astonishing thing is that every shred of information Coulter comes forth with is documented in the public record, and is laid out in the bibliography for you to check if you wish (it's about 70 pages of footnotes alone!!). She isn't making any of this up, she simply is taking what's out there and compiling the facts and adding a dose of deadly rapier wit. Ever wonder why you've heard the phrase "right wing extremist" but never "left wing extremist"? Look it up in Lexis-Nexis and see the number of hits you get for each...about equal you think? That'd be only fair right? Ann looked it up, and documented the gross bias in the media as a small example of the left's stranglehold over the mainstream media. There are countless examples of startling facts and behavior such as this throughout her work. Should you fall in line with the Right after reading this? Am I asking you to become a Republican? No...think freely, do as you will. But you need to know how things really work when it comes to public perception, and this is a priceless account of how low some people go to get you to 'think' their way, as if their way is the only way to be. You'll be shocked at what some folks get away with when you read this, but at least you'll know hot air when you hear it next time. Am I against an honest argument from a leftist? No...as long as it's HONEST and well thought out. ...to the righties, you know this already!
Rating: Summary: Conservatism without a future Review: Avoid this book. Ann Coulter aims to address the lowest impulse in people with a political point of view: to ridicule other points of view. It's pointless. As a conservative I like to read intelligently written books by authors who have their facts straight and show at least some level of respect for less like-minded people. In a true democracy, conservatives are only harmed by such vulgar lightweights as Ann Coulter. Keep the debate honest. Respect the other guy (Hell, I have friends who are liberals--the beer still tastes good). And avoid dummies such as Ann.
Rating: Summary: Well-Researched, Thoughtful, and Well-Written Review: I find it hilarious that the liberals who praise Michael Moore's monument to hypocrisy "Stupid White Men" are the same ones who slam Ms. Coulter's book. Her information is actually CITED! And how DARE they call her Anti-American? Mr. Moore, the liberal hero, practically calls for a Communist invasion of the US!
Rating: Summary: 1 Star is to much, but there is humor in it. Review: Seriously, Ann Coulter is the most ignorant and childish woman I have ever seen parade across the poltical stage. She has completely destoyed all my faith in ever finding an intellegant conservative--for she is living proof of the worse parts of conservatism: she is full of nothing but hate and believe me, your going to hear about it. 1 start though, because she contines to amuse me. When she calls liberals name-callers then goes around and say's something with all the maturity of a 12 year old boy (I keep expecting her to say "Bill Cliton is gay" or something), when she says liberals are obessed with looks then states she has never seen an attractive liberal, when she rips into the supposed liberal media (maybe in the past, but certainly it's not liberal now) then goes on any talk show that will take her--it's so sad, it's funny. Maybe she needs to open her eyes. Maybe if she was not so rich and protected she would be a little more in touch with the world. Maybe she actually thinks that what she says is funny and if this is true, I feel so sad for that tiny, tiny brain. So, if your going to read a conservative book, read something else. Don't read something that is going to make you ashamed of your gender and of your country. Personally, I couldn't get more than a few pages in this book without wanting to rip out my eyes. I go to college with conservatives that write better than this. She is a disgrace to the Republican party.
Rating: Summary: Coulter is a master of projection and hypocrisy. Review: Anne Coulter follows a typical strategy of conservative "spinners." She broadly criticizes "liberals" for doing what many conservatives are doing, or she broadly accuses "liberals" for having the reprehensible qualities of many conservatives. This book lies about "liberals," and accuses "liberals" of lying about conservatives. I must admit, this is an effective and persuasive strategy for those who want so desperately to believe blindly without taking to the effort to critically examine the argument and evidence (or lack thereof) for the argument...
Rating: Summary: Poor "American Right" Review: Wow, the American Right is so put upon. Thanks to liberal media bias, they've only won the presidency, House, and Senate. And by state level redistricting, they've guaranteed at least the House majority until the next go-round in 2011. The only surprising thing in this book is that people buy it.
Rating: Summary: Not bad, but Review: I love Ann Coulter, but I thought this book was a little lackluster. Her details and commentary are right on target, but personally I found the book to be a tad dry. [...]
