Rating: Summary: Slander Review: Despite her obvious disapproval of the liberal "slander" of the right wing, she does nothing but slander liberals. She gives conservatives a bad name. How about a well balanced view of the media. Besides, conservatives are in control of the media, just look at the bull that FOX NEWS pumps out.
Rating: Summary: A Great Work of Fiction Review: If this was a fiction book, I'd give it five stars, because that's all this book has, lies, right-wing propaganda, and fiction. With an absurd level of well-documented inaccuracies, lies, and venomous invective, All Ann Coulter does is expose herself as a hate-filled hypocrite. Along with with her new book, "Treason," Ms. Coulter sinks to a new low, and proves herself nothing more than the hate-filled creature she has always been.
Rating: Summary: Hyperbolic, silly, and misinformed Review: ...Ann Coulter comes from the Rush Limbaugh school of conservativism- instead of using facts or numbers to support arguments, make flippant, insulting remarks or simply not allow them to speak. While their ignorance is entertaining, it's sad that so many people turn only to people like them to get their news. This book appears heavy on facts to bolster her arguments, but, when checked for validity, many of the footnotes provide very weak reinforcement or none at all... Regardless of political affiliation, please don't choose a side and then tune in to talking heads who simply spew out rhetoric that panders blatantly to the left or right. Sadly, both sides are so close-minded that they cannot see that both sides are correct, and both sides are wrong. As with most things in life, the best course for our government lies somewhere in the middle.
Rating: Summary: Challenging only if you don't speak English Review: I can't believe the people that said this book presents a "challenging" alternative viewpoint! I voted for Bush and am a fairly devout Republican but this is the most idiotic drivel I've heard in my life! Anyone that can be so black and white about politics and believes that all alternative viewpoints are wrong and dangerous (ironic since she is trying to defend the Right from the slander of the Left, then turns around and does the same) is hardly a model American citizen. Ann Coulter is the Michael Moore of the left--a blind, self-absorbed reductionist, who doesn't believe that the word "democracy" means living with alternative views.
Rating: Summary: Good book for conservatives Review: this book was probaly the book with the most foot notes for political science i have read so far. Because of this i took this book a little more seriosly and i thought there would be left crying from the left and they would see the error of there ways. Wrong!!! the truth is that no matter what you show to those people they will disagree with you and cover there ears and cry. Mrs. coulter did generalize alot but you have to realize that is part of politics, both right and left generalize about each other, and although the right has said some nasty things about the left they have not said that the left is "bigots, who want to put a burning cross on your lawn, and only care about the rich people and want to destroy middle class america" those are pretty strong words, and they are words i hear the left throwing at the republicans all the time. It really disturbs me and offends me how the left uses racisim as a argument against conservatives. Anyways if you are a conservative you will like this book and it will reinforce alot of beliefs you have more strongly. If however you are a liberal, then you will probaly not like it so you might as well buy Sydney Blumingthales book "the clinton wars" and you can read all about your favorite president and put down the "nasty conservatives"
Rating: Summary: Ann's winding up for the knockout Review: If you want the most documented record of media bias, look no further because you have found it. Ann Coulter is a conservative talking head for cable news shows, and though she has a background in law, I'm glad she isn't a lawyer. She'd be thrown out of court! She makes a solid case, but the invective in these pages would have had her thrown out of any courtroom in America. In fact, when the New York Times called her on a single error in her book, she was able to tell her editor that it's good news. It means the rest of it's right! This book was a joyful read, since I was able to simply accept the fact that Ann is a hypocrite. That's right, a hypocrite. This well written and easy to follow book is chock full of personal attacks on liberals, from questioning the qauntity of brain cells in the heads of liberals to actually commenting on the 'ugliness' of this or that liberal female. This kind of banal diatribe would be enough to turn me away, but her facts ARE utterly undeniable. Believe me, they've tried to prove her wrong. They failed, making this book a must-read. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: I think we're all missing the point Review: I have read a number of reviews of this book, and I am left with this thought- is the country truly this divided between "left and right"? What, exactly, does all of this mean? It is my observation that most people in positions of power are all, for the most part, lying, stealing crooks, regardless of what label they carry. Don't we all want the same thing? Peace of mind, enough for ourselves and our families, a safe and sane world? If we are going to get over all of this nonsense and name calling, we need to grow up and act like adults instead of bratty children. Where is the sensible voice of the center amidst all of this absurdity? And what are some of these reviewers thinking, saying that Iraq was responsible for 9/11? Have so many people been so effectively brainwashed by our media (propaganda)that they actually believe this? Last I knew, it was Osama Bin Laden who was the culprit- whatever happened to him? Please people, grow up! We have a huge mess on our hands, political, environmental, spiritual. We need to pitch in together and take care of each other and our world, and stop this spiteful ignorance. The "liberals" and "conservatives" are like two people slugging at each other while the boat they are on is sinking. Ann, honey, your energy would be far better spent making peace than war.
Rating: Summary: Inflammatory rhetoric and insufficient evidence Review: Having read several negative reviews on Ann Coulter's supposdely bombastic style and vitriolic generalizations, I tried to keep my judgment of her book solely centered on the facts she presented. Unfortunately, this proved to be a difficult task as it was difficult not to find a page without "Liberals did this" and "liberals did that." However, the book still could have been saved if Coulter's evidence held up to scrutiny. Unfortunately, any decent fact checking will reveal several holes in her arguments. The first, and most notable is the sample of articles upon which she bases the liberal media idea. Her sample is rather small, often utilizing one article for multiple quotes. This strikes me as rather lazy and gives the illusion that 10 journalists reported a story with a liberal bias, when in fact it was only 3. It also makes it more dubious that she is reaching a conclusion about hundreds of journalists based on a small list. In addition, over 40 of the journalists she quotes are pundits and columnists, which unlike reporters, are not supposed to be objective and often write their own opinion. It's equivalent to collecting exclusive quotes from Limbaugh, Hannity and O'Reilly to prove a conservative media bias. Secondly, her 'facts' often fall flat. As several other reviewers have pointed out, she cites the "Love Story" myth which has been repeatedly debunked, by Love Story Author Erich Segal as well as numerous other journalists. A simple Lexis-Nexis search will show she often grossly inflates her figures as with the Selma case, when she claims the NY Times ran over 100 articles on the Selma civil rights march from 1995-2001, when only 16 articles focusing on the Selma march were found. Searching the NY Times own archives will show that they used the terms 'moderate republican' over 500 times, contrary to Coulter's quote of 168 Finally, she often generalizes or leaps to assumptions regarding authors' meaning and these assumptions are often arguably false. For example, she claims that Frank Rich said for Ashcroft to stop "monkeying around with Muslim terrorists and concentrate on anti-abortion extremists." Reading Rich's actual column, what Rich actually said was that he felt Ashcroft was wrong in concentrating on securing Cipco during the Antrax scares, which would enable drug companies to profiteer, while turning away offered help from Planned Parenthood, which has dealt with Anthrax scares for years Since this book is not good in content nor style, I advise the curious to keep their money and check it out of the library
Rating: Summary: An excellent examination of the media's conservative hate. Review: Ann Coulter does a fantastic job of conveying the many reasons that the media inherently does not like conservative politicians. In her book, Ann masterfully disects and exposes the fraudulent claims of a neutral stance in today's media. Her thorough research shows that the media jumps at the opportunity to slam conservative politicians while making every excuse in the book to praise liberals. Even if it means being a hypocrite. While Ann can sometimes be a bit verbose in her writings, her book never fails to keep you turning pages. At the very least, you'll walk away with a new respect for this extremely talented lady, and a slight suspicion of your local news anchor(s).
Rating: Summary: First rule of writing: DONT GENERALIZE Review: Being only 16 I feel that I am still very open to new ideas, still deciding on the way that I wont to head when I am finally able to registar to vote. In preperation for what I feel is a momentus occasion, registration, I take it upon myself to read whatever political writings I find, weather they be in the newspaper or books. After reading Coulter though I was extremly dissapointed about her generalizations of liberals. Coulter makes statements claiming that liberals are un-american and hate this country more than the terroists who attacked us. I personally know numerous liberals who would lay down their life for this country because they love it so dearly. I also know numerous liberals who PROUDLY waved their flage after September 11 and have kept them up longer than some conservatives. Coulter lumps all liberals into one mass category. Whilist I feel that it is essential that all Americans should be able to vocalize their views I think Coulter went one step to far in the things that she said about all liberals, unless she is deliberatly trying to make enemies I would recomend that she stops and thinks weather her statement are entirely true before she decides to write them.
