Rating: Summary: light, entertaining read Review: This is the first book by Archer that I have read, which I read after it was recommended by a friend. I found the story to be too much like a soap opera, without enough description of what was going on, with too much forshadowing, and sometimes too cliche. However, I cannot deny that the novel moved fast and that I kept reading, and enjoying what I read. It's about 550 pages but it is a light, easy read. His characters were well drawn, one of the reasons it was not a pain to continue reading. I enjoyed the book, and I think most will also, as long as they can get by those flaws above. This is no literature masterpiece, but it is entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Lasting Read Review: I read this book quite a few years ago and I just picked it up again. Even though I knew what was going to happen in the end, it was still thrilling and I couldn't put the book down. Jeffrey Archer is one of the best fiction writers and I would suggest any book that has his name on it.
Rating: Summary: One fo the Best Fiction Books I've Read in a Long Time Review: This book caught my eye with it's title--having a different spelling of Kane than the Biblical spelling. I read the back cover, and it looked interesting. Once I started reading, I was spellbound--I couldn't put it down. It's the story of two men--one born rich, the other poor, in two different countries, whose lives later become intertwined. This author is a master at transporting the reader into the human feelings of his characters. When I finished this book, I immediately ordered five more of Archer's books, just because he writes so well.
Rating: Summary: A novel of men, feud and capitalism. Review: It is clear that Jeffrey Archer meant Kane & Abel to represent more than a book which captivates its readers. But let's acknowledge that first. Kane & Abel is exciting, well-paced and draws the reader in from the beginning. It narrates the story of two men whose background and circumstances could not be any further apart. It chronicles their journey through life and their long-standing battles. Having said that, and as much as I enjoyed racing through the pages, there is the fact that the circumstances are too coincidental to be fully believable. The exaggerated circumstances that intertwine the mens' lives and pit them (and the other characters) against each other simply gets out of hand somewhere in the middle of Kane & Abel. The plot, therefore, would have benefitted from more formulation. Regardless, we're captivated and fly by landmarks of an epic battle of wits. What has not been noted is the book's unintentional condemnation of materialism. While the book lavishes praise upon the virtues of capitalism, free enterprise, and the mythical American opportunity, its many juxtaposes of East and West should serve as a reminder that the failings of these men was not merely personal but rather symptomatic of the affliction of materialism. A good book, a nicer read and a generous 4/5 from me.

Rating: Summary: THE FIRST BOOK IN AGES I'D CLASS AS A NOVEL......... Review: .......rather than a good book. The book is about 2 men born on the same day, one a penniless polish immgrant (which very does not give him justice) and the other the son of a banker. I couldnt understand why the book was called Kane & Abel as for the first 200 pages Abel is called Wladek. They first met when Abel went to see Kane about the fact that his boss had committed suicide because of the banker. Abel dislikes the man from that moment on is intent on distoying him. you must read on to find out if he'll succeed. you'll LIVE through 60 years of 2 lives in the space of a few days. thank g-d theres a sequel.
Rating: Summary: Attention catcher Review: This book is very good. It has kept my attention even though there is no blood and guts and blowing up cars. It is about these two guys born in different countries into rich families eventually one runs his father's bank and the other after being poverty stricken owns his own hotels. Eventually they get into each others way and hate each other. But then there childeren meet and run away after falling in love. It is a book that is just all around good. I recomend this to read.
Rating: Summary: Haunting and disturbing Review: The first paragraph of Kane and Abel: "April 18, 1906, Slonim, Poland. She only stopped screaming when she died. It was then that he started to scream." Wouldn't that entice any reader to continue? Kane @ Abel is Jeffrey Archer's story of two ruthless men in the financial world. The reader is trapped like a rabbit in a snair as we read about these men as they grow from babies. The book is both haunting and disturbing, but believable. The writing is excellent. There are a few places where the reader guesses what's going to happen. This book is a great read.
