Rating: Summary: LIFE CHANGING Review: This book is the best ever. The characters, you love them, you hate them. The highs, the lows, totally unbelievable. You would not believe one book could have so much power. Archer puts us right there in the novel, and you wish you could jump in the book and sort out the characters for the best. After multiple readings you wish some bits of the book would change, namely the sad parts. No other book has come close to being this much of a masterpiece, although a Matter of Honour, is as close as any book will get to being this type of masterpiece. Don't hesitate and buy this book now. Money you will not regret. I only wish I had the dedication of the characters in the novel.
Rating: Summary: Kane & Abel - From captivated to disappointed Review: I was enjoying this book more than any other that I had read in the last year. The story of two men born on the same day, in complete opposite circumstances and lives was very intriguing. Jeffrey Archer took this premise far beyond what I thought possible. One child grows up in the comfort of wealth, while another suffers through slavery, abuse, and poverty. William Kane has wealth at his fingertips, but makes his fortune on his own, without the help of money. Abel Rosnovski, takes his experience and wealth of character and builds his own fortune. The two mens' lives cross paths and the book will never be the same. After four hundred pages I was captivated; I was reading at lunch, at a red light, or anywhere else that was possible. Soon, however, the characters became shallow. While they had both previously been rich with foresight, they now wore blinders. What could have been a masterpiece, left a unsatisfying taste in my mouth. It deserves more than the two stars that I gave it. However, when it was at five stars for most of the book and then my opinion plummetted, so must the rating.
Rating: Summary: One of The Best Books I Ever Read Review: I first read this book in the mid 80's while in college. I have never forgotten the impact this book had on me. I read it in one week-end.... The copy I read in the 80's was loaned out many years ago, never to be returned. I am ordering another copy so I can re-read it and share it with my husband and friends.
Rating: Summary: Incredible book Review: I absolutely loved this book every page of it. I liked how the author made the chapters flow. Its hard to explain but it was like one chapter would be about Kane and the next about Abel and what was happening to the two men at the same point in time. I loved this book, it was given to me as a birthday gift for my 18th birthday by a friend who highly recommended it. I loved it I dont know what else to say other than I loved it.
Rating: Summary: Abel to bleed hearts Review: Kane and Abel is for everybody. It is one of the finest booksof last century. Although some of Archer's books are lame andworthless in a Grisham sense, Kane and Abel has no flaws. It isliterary perfection: great story, great pen. I cannot see this bookgoing softly into the night. With tears of hurt I read, with tears ofjoy I read, but I could not read without tears. Worlds so far apartcollide, explode. Perhaps they were never so far apart... Thedramatic irony is of iron. Archer hits he bullseye.
Rating: Summary: An incredible book Review: Absolutely the best book I've ever read. I've read this book at least a dozen times and will undoubtedly read it again. The Prodigal Daughter is a great sequel even though it repeats some of the original story. Everyone should read this book - there are many life's lessons in it. I've applied many situations in this book to my own life.
Rating: Summary: The best, absolutely fabulous Review: My all time favourite book. I've read this book 3 times in the last 15 years. I have to keep buying a new book each time, as I lend them out and never get them. A must read. Don't miss this book. By far, Jeffrey Archer's best book.
Rating: Summary: Masterpiece Review: Jeffery Archer delivers a masterpiece. This is the only book I've ever read nonstop. The story grips you from the beginning to the end. The drama is outstanding. The characters are excellent. If you enjoy reading a good book, you'll read this one again and again.
Rating: Summary: ...In years to come this will be a classic Review: Kane and Able is Jeffery Archers best work. Written over two decades ago it has certainly stood the test of time. The charaters are developed in each section with meticulous attention to detail and style. This is a must read for those who love intrigue, mystery, mayhem and the internal and external struggles that faces mankind through it's race for survival. Excellent work.
Rating: Summary: Iffy by Archer standards Review: Kane and Abel, while an enjoyable book and a quick read, is not a champion by any stretch. The real problem is that Archer goes to great lengths to create interesting characters in the first half of the book, and then does boring and predictable things with them in the second. The result is a story that gives up the brisk pace of Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less but doesn't pick up the reach-out-and-touch-them characterization of As the Crow Flies. It's pretty clear that Archer was working to fix what he got wrong in this book when he wrote Crow about a decade later.
