Summary: A Wonderful & Funny Christmas Tale
Review: Not a typical Grisham novel (don't bother looking for the lawyers). I couldn't stop laughing on my DC to SF flight. When I got back I read it to my family and we all had a wonderful time. A hellava funny Christmas tale.

Everyone knows someone like the Kranks and many of their neighbors on Hemlock. It's funny, yet has some Grisham-esque twists as Luther and Nora battle the Christmas craziness head-on, and each other. There's a very positive message of what Christmas is, and the whole family will enjoy this one.

Buy it, read it, you'll love it!

Summary: I laughed out loud as I read this book
Review: I read this book over the weekend and thought it was great. It really takes a look at the way we have commercialized Christmas. I laughed out loud over the characters in the book and could relate to the way we create stress for ourselves during the holidays. The book is fun, don't try to make too much of it. It is great to read during the holiday season. Make sure you finish it...it will help you remember what is important in life!

Summary: There is only 1 reason to read this book
Review: I have read all of John Grisham's books. That is the only reason I would give anyone else to read this one. Luckily it was short and a very easy read.

I did not find it entertaining, fun, interesting, or anything else. In fact, I was going to buy it for a friend who is a Grisham fan. Was is the operative word.

I have not given up on Grisham, I will read his next book.

Summary: I laughed until I cried!
Review: Who *hasn't* felt the way Luther and Nora Krank feel when they decide to sit this Christmas out? Identification with that feeling immediately connects you to the main characters of this charming, outrageously funny book. The societal pressures the Kranks have to face in their quest for a non-holiday holiday are those that, while made larger for the sake of fiction, we all face when deviating from the norm. More subtly, I imagine Grisham has illuminated what it must feel like to be one of the small groups of Americans who don't celebrate Christmas *any* year.

I dare not say more lest I give away any of the plot of this absolutely terrific book. Just read it, you'll love it -- as long as you're looking for something fun. This book is not meant to be great literary fiction. It is a light-hearted Christmas tale with a sappy ending. (Would you really want anything different for a Christmas story?) It's a quick read (I read it in two hours) and laugh-out-loud funny. I actually laughed myself to tears reading this book -- a first for me!

I highly recommend this tale as a respite from the stresses of the holidays -- perhaps while waiting to get on a plane to your holiday destination!

Summary: Hello May I Speak to Frosty ~ Ha! Ha!
Review: The Kranks decided to skip Christmas this year ~ this decision turned out to be a very bad decision for them. They thought they were saving money, time and stress by doing this but they paid the price two times over for this. The book was humorous and had it's funny moments, especially when someone called the Krank's house and asked to speak with Frosty!

I gave it three stars, I was in a rush to read it ~ I guess because it was by John Grisham, ....

Summary: Not a typical Grisham Novel!
Review: Unlike Grisham's usual books..no murder..no mystery..
just a humorous, feel good Christmas book! Great characters
and a plot we can identify with.
A good holiday read. I enjoyed it.

Summary: Tired of ignorance too!
Review: I was enjoying this book as a light holiday read with a character who I and anyone else tired of the commercialism of Christmas can relate to. I was enjoying it right until the end when the protagonist and his wife express their relief that their future son-in-law, though Peruvian, "isn't that dark". As a person of color I am more than double fed up with people thinking that it's just a-ok to look down on people like me. Luther Krank after all he went through to regain his Christmas spirit, still proved himself to be a narrow minded bigot in the end. Shame on John Grisham for even putting that ignorant thought in the book! That bit of stupidity ruined an otherwise fun book for me and will definitely keep me from purchasing it as Christmas gifts for others as I had planned too.

Summary: Skip Skipping Christmas
Review: An uninteresting, bigoted, rich and superficial couple has the first interesting idea of their lives and this book follows their complete inability to recognize it or follow-through. I was apalled with these characters, and actually read through the entire book hoping to find out that Grisham had somehow addressed their inexcusable traits--No luck.

The premise is interesting--a couple wants to forego the commercialism of christmas. If only the people were anywhere near as interesting as that idea. Its almost as if without shopping and hobnobbing they don't have anything left to do.

From its gross portrayal of a 'middle-class' family who barely blinks at wasting thousands of dollars on something they'll never use, to a mother and father whose racism shows brightly on Christmas Eve, this book deserves only one place on your Christmas morning--in the fire.

Summary: Grisham does it again!
Review: Once again John Grisham makes us all take a long look at how we behave during the holiday season. If you're expecting the in depth character and plot development or the gripping drama that Grisham is famous for, you may be disappointed. This ia a very light hearted look at how foolish we can become when we get all wrapped up in the holiday rush. I laughed until it hurt at the sight of Luther hanging from the roof by the extension cord. I've loaned this to several friends. We all agree that this is a must read for Christmas. Skipping Christmas is a quick, easy read that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. Well done Mr. Grisham! LOVED IT!

Summary: Definitely Five Stars...........Wonderful Christmas story
Review: I have just finished "Skipping Christmas", and must say I found this book absolutely hilarious. This is definitely one book not to be skipped.
I totally identified with Luther Krank, as I too (and I am sure many of you) have felt like skipping Christmas at one time or another.
As Luther proceeds with his plan to skip the festivities and instead go on a Caribbean cruise, he reluctantly gets the cooperation of his wife Nora, but his nosy neighbours on Hemlock Street have other ideas which sabotages his plans. Then when Blair, his daughter, announces she is coming home for the holidays, the craziness takes a different twist.
This is a good lighthearted read, throwing a comical spin on the madness of the holidays.
Highly recommended. Give yourself and friends this book for Christmas.
