Rating: Summary: Thoughtful and engaging work Review: I saw Dr Dyer's PBS special and was curiously drawn in. What really engaged me more than anything else was his exploration of ideas from several different school of thoughts. He pulls in many ideas from the Hindu/Buddhist philosophies - blends them with ideas from Christianity and other religions - and yet manages to look at things from a scientific perspective as well. I read this book at a particularly turbulent time of my life and I used it as a valuable companion to "keep me connected to my source" and bring inner peace. I definitely recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Dyer is close... but David Icke is closer... Review: If you want to get even closer, read David Icke's "tales from the time loop" and Tolle's "the power of NOW." Icke's book will change your life as will Tolle's if given the chance... Dyer is a very close but the two books above will take you further...
Rating: Summary: Wayne Dyer is a fake Review: Power of Intention is a blatant plagiarism of Carlos Castaneda's work by Wayne W. Dyer. He claims to have experienced Saori (zen enlightenment) and offers non-sensical cursive reasoning - such as "Thoughts about your purpose are really your purpose trying reconnect to you." and "to reach a state of impeccability you need to practice unbending intent." and affirmations "I want to feel good!" and "I love me". Clearly the enlightened master knows how to prey on people with low self-esteem, depression or loss. My recommendation - use the time and money you'd saving from reading this book and spend it with your family, friends and do what you love to do.
Rating: Summary: Read with Understanding Review: Mr. Dyers self absorbing self-help is what ultimately leads to a life of meaningless bliss or thoughtful despair. His views on the human condition, the cause of spiritual problems, and the techniques necessary for finding peace are not new and are only disctractions from finding real meaning in life. They are counter to basic Judeo-Christian teaching and should be read only as an example of empty human ideology.
Rating: Summary: Yes there is a source Review: I've seen Dr Dyer's PBS Special. He is a very eloquent speaker. I do believe he is right on the money with most of what he says. However, as Solomon says "There is nothing new under the sun." He's not saying anything that the bible hasn't been saying for over 2,000 years. Yes there is a source!! It is Jesus Christ!! John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the light and no man shall come to the father except through me." :-)
Rating: Summary: Speaking from the heart Review: Dr Dyer writes with such clarity you know he is coming from an honest place called the heart. It is also written with such intelligence you want to keep turning the pages to learn and understand more about this life we have on earth. The book is open to everyone and in the day of "self help gurus" his direct but gentle approach is a true gift. A book you will read at different times in your life..It is a keeper.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book From a Wonderful Teacher. Review: Wayne Dyer is an exceptional teacher. I always gain valuable insights while reading his books, and this was no exception. In "The Power of Intention," he combines ancient, powerful information into a unique package that is inspiring, enjoyable, and potentially transformational. Additionally, to the open and patient reader, the pages radiate a noticeable feeling, an unspoken teaching. For these reasons and more, this book should be on your must read list. I highly recommend "The Power of Intention." Reviewed by Evan Finer, author of "Effortless WellBeing: The Missing Ingredients for Authentic Wellness".
Rating: Summary: A Great Help As A Parent Review: The Power of Intention was of great help to me as a parent. Dr. Dyer's concepts and ideas brought a certain amount of clarity to my thinking that allowed me to see through some of my "baggage" as a parent. If you have ever seen Dr. Dyer on PBS or cable, you know that he challenges your beliefs about the simple things we do in life. When I came to Amazon.com to buy this book, another reviewer suggested I get Matt Pasquinilli''s book, The Child Whisperer at the same time. The two are not alike in many ways, but very complimentary in their seperate messages. I feel like I am a better parent because Dr. Dyer taught me specific ways to apply the co-creating principles of intention, and Pasquinilli taught me how to communicate directly and intentionally with my children.
Rating: Summary: Did not give credit to source of information Review: I have read all of Wayne Dyer's books and I have seen him speak in person. His message is always inspirational and I've enjoyed seeing the evolution of his work over the years. I would give this book 5 stars except that the material in Chapter 11 is taken from someone else's work and no credit is given for it. I'm disappointed that Dr. Dyer did not acknowledge the copyrighted work of Jerry and Esther Hicks which makes me wonder if he has borrowed from others without credit as well. While his message is good, it would have been more powerful had he fully acknowledged the source of all of his material instead of pretending these are all his own thoughts and words.
Rating: Summary: Needed Better Gounding Review: I like Dr. Phil's common sense advice, and that is why I'm surprised Dr. Dyer says negative things. Like this book, his criticism is hard to pin down. Perhaps overcoming obstacles is something Dr. Dyer doesn't like to discuss in concrete terms. In the Sonoma press, Dr. Dyer talked about his addictions, including cocaine which affected his current marriage (his first ended in divorce. His challenges with alchohol and drugs and specifically how he coped would have given this book some grounding. This book has abstract Emersonion philosophy. Frankly, Dr. Phil is more practical and fun to read. Overall, Dyer's message is a positive one. If he could only write directly to the point, this book would have merited more stars.
