Rating: Summary: Uplifting and very inspiring Review: Although I respect Wayne Dyer, I hadn't read one of his books for a number of years. I'm grateful that I purchased this one. It made an immediate impact on my sense of well being and outlook on life. It's very well written, and his ideas are very easy to implement in daily life. Of course nothing is 100% and I did find some of his instructions a bit simplistic, but 95% of what he said was rock solid and inspiring. They say the greatest teachers inspire...well, this book is amazingly inspiring and I would have to rank Wayne Dyer as one of the greats. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Another Dyer book--just as good, but nothing new Review: This book is inspirational, energizing, and really gets to the heart of the social problems in our society. If you have never read a book by Wayne Dyer or gone to any of his seminars, then this would be a great book to buy right away and get reading! The only problem with this book is that Dyer has been coming out with books for decades--and this book is exactly the same as all the rest of them. He keeps coming out with new books to keep himself out in the public's eye and stay in touch with newer generations of readers, but his message has not changed at all and neither has the underlying content of his books. So, if you already have a bunch of Dyer's books or already have already acheived self-actualization-- ; ) --then you won't find anything new here.
Rating: Summary: Praise for the Power of Intention Review: Another great book by Dr. Dyer. He is a very passionate persuader. I was watching Dr. Dyer on PBS and his message sounded so simple and sincere: determination as energy, not something you do, but something you are. Lots of platitudes but never vague, The Power of Intention has inspired me to get going with my life; To overcome negative thoughts and feelings, to let go of erroneous thinking and seeing. This is also a feel good and warm book. After you read it, you will feel uplifted for a while and if you are like me, you will strive to be a nicer and more sincere person. As the father of some very active young children, I found myself searching for a way to teach the Power of Intention to them. I knew that they could benefit greatly from Dr. Dyers material, and I was right. I read a book by Matt Pasquinilli called The Child Whisperer a couple of years ago and I got it off the shelf and reread it after reading The Power of Intention. Although the two books are very different in scope and style, I found that they compliment each other nicely. The Child Whisperer is a step by step guide to employing concepts like the Power of Intention with children.
Rating: Summary: Abstract and over-simplified Review: One point, he directly or indirectly tell us to avoid "negative" people. At another point, he suggested that we should find beauty in a cockroach. For one thing, I do find negative people more caring and responsible. Positive people tend to go along their own ways and disregard other people even if they "appear" to care. I have met several positive people and some borrowed money from me, but when I ask them to return it, they say, "$2000 isn't a lot of money!" "Are you calling me to argue?" And Dyer says, "Source" -- source of what? It would be much better to use concrete words, such as the Nature or the Universe, or even the Creator of us. Similar to what Dyer said, I have tried to be nice to the world. I have try to forgive people and be nice to people because I think each person has his or her own difficulties. The result is, I still get back cold blooded response from people trying to over-power me. They may say, "it is like that and GOOOD BBBYYEEEEEE." or give you a cold face when you show your friendliness from the inside, or they charge you a lot of money such as $5 per minute of phone call when somehow your local phone company didn't stop all long distance carrier and it got assigned to Worldcom on a per call basis, and they tell you that it is the rule and give you a "you are stupid" tone of voice. It is not a simple world. I tried to be a sheep or a rabbit, but there are lions and tigers out there. Can a rabbit think it is a peaceful world and the lions won't eat it, which Dyer suggested? Also if the method really works, how come for these many years, he is still over-weighted? Can't he get the best of himself for the mind and for the body and become healthier?
Rating: Summary: An Idea Whose Time Has Come Review: This idea that the setting of intentions without attachment to outcomes can have unexpectedly powerful, positive results first percolated into my awareness when I picked up this book along with a second book at the same time called LUCKY YOU! Proven Strategies For Finding Good Fortune. Dyer is the expert here and the idea of energy flows that human consciousness can 'surf' feels very appealing. The second book, LUCKY YOU, takes that idea and applies it to streaks of good and bad luck, showing how our intuition, our dreams, and paying attention to synchronicities can lead us to good fortune. Dyer seems to have inspired a whole new cottage industry of self-help books and themes!! More power to him!!!
Rating: Summary: Not Sensible Review: This book is like reading a book of overly sweet poetry. It is filled with nice sounding platitudes, but it is overly simplified, and ultimately not that useful for people who deal with the realities of life. A much better book is "Staying Sane" by Raj Persaud. It gives ways to live an honorable and happy life in a sometimes difficult world. I agree that Dyer would have done better to recount his addictions and how he has been successful to varying degrees in combating them. What's up with his Dr. Phil bashing by the way? It seems like simple jealousy.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING!! Review: This is a positive approach, and an amazing book that everyone should read. I was a child victim of abuse/sexual abuse and later in life, Domestic abuse. I found the book, Nightmares Echo- it told the story matter of factly and did alot for my inner self healing to "Begin". Then when I heard about this book, I ran right out and bought it. It has helped me so much to learn how to take the healing and make a positive transition in to the world of the survivor. This Book helped me to realize so much and learn so very much more.
Rating: Summary: ¿Simple Concepts, Profound Effects¿ Review: In his book, Dr. Dyer helps us identify how we can be in harmony at all times by merging our thoughts with the creative energy that he calls intention. He does this in a very graceful way, through stories and quotes as well as lists of suggestions. He urges us to examine our usual behaviors to life and describes how the power of intention "matches-up" directly with our thoughts (according to him it is in our thoughts that we produce reality, so we have to be aware of the energy our thoughts carry). His approach is indeed very useful and inspiring, with concepts that are so simple, one some times oversees them in this fast paced world. While enjoying this book, some of the concepts Dr. Dyer touches reminded me of another book that I hold very dear to my heart and that I would like to share with you, called "WORKING ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP DOESN'T WORK" written by Ariel and Shya Kane. Through their book, the Kanes present the three principles to create magic relationships in your life, including the one with yourself. I highly recommend both of these books which pearls of wisdom continue to light up my life.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Self-Held Book Review: Mr. Dyer is great at expressing what it takes to succeed and bringing you to the point where you really believe it. wwr@virginia.edu
Rating: Summary: The Epitome of the Mixed Bag Review: I'm so torn between the love and the hate I feel for Dr. Wayne's newest release! Although Dr. Dyer once again packs the pages with his sagacious nuggets of wisdom, I was left feeling lied to; almost cheated. I guess I should be used to this with Wayne Dyer by now. Every single book gets going on the right track. It brings up issues and emotions which many don't often contemplate or even begin to resolve without a little coercion. The books are easy to get pulled into as Wayne has a friendly way of communicating through the written word, but as I gets deeper into the text I feel as though my mind is telling me I must lay this book to rest. I feel as though I'm being forced into this overly cozy world of oversimplication. I feel as though this source he keeps referring to is always kept vague. I feel as though we are being told to be connected and content in a world where injustice and greed seem to be increasing; in a world where the environment which Wayne Dyer can enjoy in Maui, thanks to his sheltering wealth, is being otherwise largely disregarded at the expense of our "connection". This is not a time to encourage feeling connected despite what is going on around us. Rather, we must fight to stay connected in this fragile moment in history. However, I love the energy Wayne brings to the book. Sometimes it is nice to see somebody at least attempt to see everything in life through a positive spectrum. Yet, I think the good Dr. knows this world brings pain along with bliss, yet he seems to conveniently ignore this reality. Dr. Wayne has admittedly has his own struggles with cocained and discontent; which is certainly pardonable and understandable; yet you'd think a man with such a tumultuous life would offer a greater balance. You'd think he would try to meet people where he would have met himself in his darkest hour. I know this review may come off as harsh. I don't intend for it to be so. Everybody needs hope and encouragement, and Dr. Dyer can certainly deliver. Whether this hope and encouragement in far too naive and overly-simplistic, I leave that for the reader to decide. Remember to watch Wayne Dyer on PBS during pledge months. Maybe you'd want to watch his program before you buy the book! That way you can know if you want to invest 18 dollars on the book!
