Summary: The definitive biography of Ernesto "Che" Guevera
Review: If you want to know all about this mysterious man's life then this is the book that you should purchase. Be forewarned, what John Lee Anderson provides you with in this biography may not mesh with the romaticized myth of Che that has survived to the present. A sobering account for all those who plastered their walls with Warhol-esque portraits of this revolutionary.

Summary: Turns myth into man
Review: Fascinating! This book shattered many misconceptions and myths that I grew up with concerning Che. The author obviously conducted exhaustive research to uncover Che the man and the forces and events in his life that formed the revolutionary he became. The US government would have us all believe that this man was an evil communist, bent on spreading his idealogy throughout the world when, in reality, his main motive was to stop western imperialism and the exploitation of the Latin American people and resources. By the time I finished this book I was grieving the loss of such a strong and passionate man who never waivered from his ideals. It is interesting to note that in many ways I was reminded of Bobby Kennedy when I read of Che Guevarra. I highly recommend this book to any student of 20th century political history!

Summary: A gateway book for those interested in our revolution!
Review: If influential reading is what your looking for then this is a grat book to pick up. The story of the most complete man to live in this century is documented from childhood to his heroic death. A book that makes you want to improve your own life and knowledge of self. Their is a common enemy out their for us , and Che stood up and fought against them physically , mentally, and now spiritually as his words teach us of a time when people had the guts to sacrifice their lives for the cause of peace. This book is a must for those seeking a way to take our freedom back from the hands of the devil( IMPERIALISM ).May god's people live on and learn!!!!!

Summary: A great "warts-and-all" portrayal of Guevara
Review: A comprehensive portrayal of one of the most important men of the 20th century. Anderson generally puts Guevara's actions in a positive light, but this book is by no means a canonization. Anderson vividly describes what made Che a great revolutionary leader--his courage, intelligence and great powers of persuasion. At the same time we learn about the "dark side" of Che's personality--including his brutality and uncompromising self-righteousness. There are some parts of the book that will make you laugh as well--like Che's brief, unsuccessful career in guerilla dentistry. If you want to know more about Che, Cuba, or Latin American history you should read this book. It looks imposing (800 pages) but once you get into it it won't seem that way at all.

Summary: TOO MUCH!!!!
Review: This is certainly an incredible well-researched and detailed book, but I just didn't feel that Che Guevara's life merited 800 pages. Despite his iconic image, he was really just a minor figure in the history of Communism, and this book did nothing to change my mind, despite the mind-numbing amount of information provided.

Summary: Enchanting!
Review: I found this book to be very well written and detailed. Due to the length of this book I was a little skeptical at first but a friend recommended it and I loved it. Che was truly an intriguing person, who's views were about what we all want: a better future. Reading this made me want to visit Cuba and see all the places this book talks about.

Summary: Very detailed and well written. But...
Review: An excellently researced book that uncovers many details of the late "Revolutionary's" life. Anderson, at times, seems to admire his subject but does not gloss over Guavera's mistakes or his brutality. Guavera was not, as the author quotes Sartre, "the most complete human being of our age." He was a naive idealist thug who admired such luminaries as Stalin, Mao and Kim Il-sung. Certainly, the Latin American Dictators of Che's time (with a great deal of support from the U.S. government) were brutal and deserved to be brought to justice, however, Che was simply a brutal dictator wannabe. More accuratly, he wished to empower the likes of Fidel and Raul Castro in Cuba and Laurent Kabila in the Congo.

I wish the author had told us some more of the results of Che's "Revolutionary" activities and passed a more severe judgment of this charismatic killer.

Summary: Absolutely Incredible!
Review: John Lee Anderson's work on Che Guevara is beyond praise. His attention to detail and sources is meticulous and the depth with which he plunges is unparalleled. Quite possibly the greatest single book I have ever read. An imposing 800+ read was transformed into a captivating biography on one of the most enigmatic people of the twentieth century.

Summary: A complete book about the greatest man to have ever lived
Review: I brought this book along with me on my travels through parts of Europe, an adventure like those Che and Alberto Granado went through in South America. Before reading it I had already respected the man, but after reading it, I learned how to travel as a traveller rather than as a tourist. I felt the real character of Che, and was amazed of the things he had done, and his take on life. In fact, after reading the book I decided to get Che tatooed on my arm. It is really a great book, and whatever you know about Che, wether you feel he was good or bad, read the book to find out the truth for yourself. What was interesting was that on the plane I was reading the book and the man sitting next to me was Bolivian, and told me his father was one of the generals responsible for killing Che!!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Amazing!
Review: John Anderson is truly brilliant in his writing. I believe he has the wisdom and the writing instinct to write just about anything, and in this book his true talents shine. Although long, this book is truly interesting from cover to cover. For anyone who wants to learn about Che Guevara and the time period in which he lived, this is the most comprehensive as well as exciting book out there. John Anderson is truly inspiring!
