Rating: Summary: If you can believe, you can achieve--is Ben Carson Review: Anyone having trials in their life, will find this book a positive uplift. I found myself identifing with Ben, when he was faced with the first chemistry final at Yale. The sense of divine intervention on his behalf in regards to the test and his acknowledgement of God as the source was/is a pivot point. Without a high grade at that key point, Ben Carson, probably would not have become the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins at age 33. The power of God awaits anyone needing the service of the brillant mind and "Gifted Hands" of Dr. Ben Carson. The thrill of his success comes through when reading the book. You too can join his journey and visualize and vocalize what you too may be. Guidance for becoming a better person is being lived out in the life of one, Ben Carson, M.D. Thank you, GOD for such a man, a living example.

Rating: Summary: I highly recommend this book Review: I bought this book on sale as something to read while staying in a hotel on a weekend business trip. This book was soo inspirational that it encouraged me to continue my education. Then a couple of years later I gave the book to my 13 year old son and he actually stayed in his room all weekend reading the book. He also enjoyed the book. The story is uplifting and I would highly recommend that parents give this book to thier children to read. The book should actually be required reading for early teenagers.
Rating: Summary: Enough !!! Review: There is no denying the gifts that Ben Carson was given nor can anything take away from the good he has done, the levels he has achieved. But this book does not paint him as a very appealing person. Not particularly well written, this quickly became a tedious series of self-promotions and one wonders if he is as pleased with himself as C. Murphey leads us to believe. The message of the importance of a supportive family and persistence was lost and what could have been an inspirational biography came across as irritating and nearly impossible to relate to. Its great to be proud of your achievements, but climb down from the mountain.
Rating: Summary: Good book but editors are baffoons Review: I read this book, and it was pretty good, but what really ticks me off is the beyond-idiot quote from readers digest on the front cover. Once in a strange rage he almost stabbed a friend with his new knife. This was a one time thing, it happened in an argument in the friends bedroom, not in the streets. When he went home he was a ashamed and determined to control this anger problem before it grew into anything. How on earth does that constitute 'knife weilding street fighter'?! It is as if readers digest did not even read the book themselves. Fools like this should not be allowed such positions in life. Perhaps they should have a an assisted living center for all such idiots--- it would be cheaper than paying them money to embarrass their own intelligence--- but with the same purpose-- have other people take care of all their needs, because they cant make it on their own.
Rating: Summary: Gifted Hands: An autobiography by Ben Carson Review: Gifted Hands, the inspiring transformation of Ben Carson, was a great autobiography! As he faced terrible times during his rough childhood years, he still managed to become successful.Ben Carson was a troublesome juvenile growing up in a terrible neighborhood. He did not excel in school and therefore battled an anger problem which almost caused his best friend's life. His lack of self-control always led him into a rage that would hurt others as well as himself both physically and emotionally. Carson later realized that he had a serious problem and wanted to change. He decided to transform from a immature angry boy into an unique man that impacts other peoples lives. This novel revealed an interesting zeal of success and motivation that inspires readers of all ages. It led to having hope, never giving up, and striving to become the individual that God wants you to become. Dr. Carson suceeded and now is a brain seargeant at Johns Hopkins Hospitol in Baltimore, Maryland. One of the most inspiring surgeries he ever performed was on separating simese-twins who were joined at the head. Dr. Carson also speaks to young men and women to encourage them to turn their lives around to make something of themselves. After this breathtaking autobiography, Carson remains one of the most highly respected and intriguing African-Americans in the history of America. I actually had the opportunity to meet Dr. Carson at Johns Hopkins one day while visiting my father when he was being hospitalized there. After that short time talking with him, I could already begin to admire him. This book,Gifted Hands will change any readers life for the better.
Rating: Summary: The Carsons, right on! Review: Great inspirational literature. Not too heavily spiritual and certainly gives credit where it is due-to a higher power and to mamma. This proves once again what we are all afraid to admit; that children who feel supported can be taught self-discipline. They can believe, become confident and move mountains for the less fortunate. The right attitude can come from an instilled desire to plant that "mustard seed" and reap it's bounty along with a leap of faith. All you healers and health care providers believe it and pass it on!
Rating: Summary: Inspiring and moving A must read for African-American Males Review: Ben carson's journey from poverty to prominence will inspire anyone to do their best and try to make a sucess of their lives. He had nothing but determination. He made no excuses and worked hard to be ther top surgeon. A dedicated Christian, his faith in God was unwavering in the pursuit of dreams. His humble style of writng is easy to read and will have you turning pages. This is one of my favorite books. A must read for any young Aftican American male. Forget the rappers and basketball stars, Ben Carson is a REAL role model for Black men. Every Black family with sons MUST have a copy of this book and Manchild in The Promised Land By Claude Brown in their homes. These two books are pivotal in teaching young black boys in their journey to becoming strong black men.
