Rating: Summary: Ben Carson, MD Review: I recommend the book Ben Carson, because it allowed the reader to experience what it would be like to be in an operating room while separating the twin boys. The book was very descriptive with the way it described the tension in the operating room when an artery was severed and the twins were bleeding profusely, needing more blood. The blood was flowing so fast that the blood given was not enough. It was kind for the people in the room to volunteer to give blood, even though the 10 pints was not going to be helpful to the babies. But all was not lost when the Red Cross was able to give 50 pints of blood.
Rating: Summary: Ben Carson M.D. Review: I recommend the book, Ben Carson, to other students because this book kept me wanting to hear more. I enjoyed reading this book because it was about real life. It was very interesting to hear the doctors in the story doing their jobs so well and caring about the people they were taking care of. The story touched my heart when it described the tension the doctors went through during surgery and the time it took to help separate the two babies in the operating room. During the surgery, the babies lives were at stake, needing blood, and all the workers in the room went as far as offering their own blood until it became available from the Red Cross. This book, Ben Carson, is a book that you don't want to miss and you'll tell all your friends about this heartwarming and touching story about a doctor's life.
Rating: Summary: I recommend the book for reading Review: I would recommend the reading of Ben Carson because it puts awareness on the delicateness of life. And the pressure involved in surgery for example when Dr. Carson stated after everything was closed up he then realized he had been holding his breath throughout the last part of the procedure. It also points out the involvement of team work between Surgeons and it also takes you right to the edge of the seat waiting for the surgery to end and be successful.
Rating: Summary: Best Surgeon Review: I would recommend the book, Ben Carson, to a friend or colleague. Ben Carson writes an autobiography of his life as a surgeon. He finds himself faced with the biggest challenge of his career, saving the lives of twin siblings who are connected at the brain.
Rating: Summary: Helping Hands Review: I would recommend this book Ben Carson to other people. It has all of the elements of a good book. It had suspense, surprise, wonder, imagery, happiness and sadness. It helps you experience life through the eyes of a doctor who must perform a grueling task If I was one of the doctors I do not know if I could stand the long operation, or the task of operating on infants. I especially liked the part when all the staff in the operating room offered to give blood, because that shows how much they put into saving the lives of these two boys. I only wish I could have finished the book because I want to know if they lived. Ben Carson is good writer who knows how to tell a very exciting story
Rating: Summary: A gifted story Review: I recommend Ben Carson, especially to readers interested in medical events. Carson gives a detailed account of activities that occur during the separation surgery of conjoined twins. His ability to use graphic descriptions helps to keep the readers in suspense. At times it is difficult to wade through the technical terminology of medicine, but is well worth the effort. He creates a memorable account of a highly-charged situation. Carson also portrays a human side of medical professionals which assists the reader in relating to the characters.
Rating: Summary: A Gore or A Bore Review: I do not recommend the book Ben Carson. Upon first hearing a single chapter, I was presented with a graphic description of conjoined twins being separated. There were many thoughts running through my mind as to whether the twins would make it through the operation, yet I felt as if the chapter was too scattered. The text was too scattered in that it did not flow between contexts. Some examples included switching from the operating room to a call to another hospital for more blood as well as when the twins were placed in a coma. The chapter also produced such thoughts as - does this really happen? Would there really have been such a shortage of blood when doctors know of the operating procedures? The reality of the story, however, did somewhat spark an interest but it is not something that I would allow my child to read nor would I read the text to my children either in or out of a school setting.
Rating: Summary: A Good Book Review: I would recommend the book, Ben Carson for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Because of the detailed accounts of what happens in a surgical procedure. It would also serve to offer a springboard in which to build ideas. The graphic detailed descriptions of the surgery of the twins seem to draw me as a reader to the text. I found myself emphasizing with the plight of the twins and their distressed parents. I can imagine that they are small, fragile yet strong and resilient. They have learned to depend upon each other for strength and hope. The wide eyes look up expectantly and the attending physicians and nurses. Yet through that glint of hope in their eyes, there is a sliver of fear and doubt. However, I am certain that in the capable hands of Dr. Ben Carson the twins will have a full recuperation. This will conclude my reflection of the excerpt of the book.
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest inspiration stories! Review: The book is written with a captivating style. Splendid story form a remarkable man. Truly believe this is one of the best books from the previous century.
