Rating: Summary: ideal for the religous type Review: Madeleine L'Engle combines unicorns, a desert, and Noah's Ark into one book. Keeps you on the edge and hard to put down at times.
Rating: Summary: Boring. Review: L'Engle has written some of the best books I have *ever* read but this is definitely not one of them. This poor idea from the very beginning has an only marginal plot and insufficiently developed characters. The twins from the incredibly excellent "A Wrinkle in Time" find themselves in the time of Noah before the Flood where they marginally struggle against the advances of an agent for the bad guys.
Rating: Summary: Refreshing Review: I really appreciate Madeleine L'Engle as an author, as she is one of the few who can offer opinions and ideas about topics such as morals and religion, without preaching or being close-minded. This book is a delightful adventure story/fairy tale that, while telling a story, also tells you about the author.
Rating: Summary: Almost made me cry.... Review: I was walking home from school, and I still had a long way to go. So, I just happened to have "Many Waters" in my backpack. I started reading it...and I just couldn't stop! I am very picky about what I read, and I loved this! It was so well written, that it made me feel like I was actually there, "kything" even! I enjoyed it so much, It opened the whole world of Madeleine L'Engle to me. I just wish I had a copy right now......
Rating: Summary: Worth reading! Review: Although I didn't like Many Waters as much of the rest of the murry books(a wrinkle in time, a swiftly tilty planet) this is a really good book! Madeleine L'Engles combination of Fact and Fiction is really cool. This is one book worth reading!
Rating: Summary: Okay... Review: Well, it certainly appears as though Miss L'Engle had a lot of time on her hands... Actually, I'm a bit disappointed. This book definitely isn't as good as her other ones but there is something really weird about it too- it has Hebrew words in it. For example, the little mammoth's name is Higgaion- which, in Hebrew, means 'logic'. 'Seraph' means 'angel' in biblical Hebrew. El, in case you readers didn't figure it out, means 'god' in Hebrew- but it could be any god, so what L'Engle should have written is "Iehova", which is the name of the Jews' god in Hebrew. The fact that L'Engle didn't write that infuriates me, for it shows that she doesn't really know Hebrew or isn't familiar with our tradition- she could have just asked a friend how to say certain words in Hebrew. So basicly, she claims to know Hebrew, but all she really knows is a few words and the basic legend of Noah. She doesn't have a right to start using the few Hebrew words that she knows in her book on a whim! I say, that you should learn Hebrew properly before you start using it, Miss L'Engle. This is from an angry reader from Israel
Rating: Summary: You've gotta read this! This is the greatest book! Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. I NEVER reread books, and I've read this one 4 times. I found it fascinating to read Exodus and see how accurate the book's Biblical facts were. If you like Madeleine L'Engle books, you'll love this one. A farely quick read and surely worth buying! READ IT!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: This book is the coolest! Review: When Sandys and Dennys are transported back into Noah's time, they are encountered with danger, excitement, love, confusion, and sadness. It is humorous, even though when they have to say good-by, it is so sad. This book is so great! I loved it and I'm sure you will, too
Rating: Summary: An imaginative twist on a very old story Review: Virtual unicorns, miniature mammoths and manticores our a few of the many curious creatures that become common place when reading a book by Madeleine L'Engle. A wonderful book with a lot of intesting insites into the Noah's ark story
Rating: Summary: Something for everyone... Review: I think that Ms. L'Engle provides something for everyone in this book. This book has wonderful religious insights
