Rating: Summary: This was a different book from other books we read. Review: We are the six grade Hot Dogz book group from Woodwoord-Granger. We thought this book was a more different book than we have ever read.It was a adventure fantasy."When we read it, we could smell and see the things happening.We could even smell the trees."
Rating: Summary: A Better Order Review: After The Last Battle was published, Lewis felt that rather than reading the Chronicles in the order published, a better sequence would be 1:) The Magician's Nephew; 2:) Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe; 3:)The Horse and His Boy; 4:)Prince Caspian; 5:)Voyage of the Dawn Treader; 6:) The Silver Chair; and 7:) The Last Battle. This sequence follows the internal chronology of the seven books. Thanks to Brian Sibley of The Land of Narnia (Harper & Row, 1990).
Rating: Summary: Not better than Tolkien, but good enough to beat most others Review: This is a series of books that get a hold of your attention and doesn't let go. It's better planned and developed than "Neverending Story" but doesn't catch a foot of Tolkien's masterpiece. Still, is a book I recommend. Didn't like the crossover from adventure to religion as I wasn't expecting this, but still does the job of entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Can't put it down, even late, late at night! Review: It's the greatest book!! I read each of the books in the series every opportunity I got. I'm so sad I finished it. I'm starting to read other fantasy books, but they can't compare. I was 8 when I read them, now I'm 9. I was trying to get my friend to read the series, it was so great.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful but Out of Sequence Review: The Chronicles of Narnia have to be my favorite set of books. Nothing else I have read has surpassed the enjoyment, awe, and wonder that I felt when I first read them when I was in 4th grade. Since then I've read them all at least once a year, and they never fail to entertain me and make me think. The symbolism is powerful, but the strongest thing about them is simply that it is a wonderful story that I could never get enough of. The reason I give this particular edition 4 stars instead of 5 is because the order in which it is presented is off. Maybe Lewis did want readers to read them chronologically, but I STRONGLY recommend reading them in the order in which they were first published. Going back in time after the hearing the first story adds a special twist and it's more fun to make those certain connections after hearing the original story. Despite this, the illustrations in this edition are simply beautiful, and therefore make it a very beautiful book to share with your kids (just make sure you read the Chronicles in the original order!) No child should grow up without reading The Chronicles of Narnia...and no adult should go through life without reading them either.
Rating: Summary: My Favorite Books... Review: The CON are my all-time favorite books!!! They have touched me in a way no books have before. Aslan be with you!
Rating:  Summary: Coming home to Good friends! Review: I read these many years ago, and loved them so much, I had to keep them, no matter what. Imagine my surprise when I moved in with my sweetheart and he had the same set of books! He couldn't bear to not have his with him too! Now the two sets sit side by side on our bookshelf, like friends. I just reread them, and they are still as good as they were way back when. Now, though, I see bits of Olde Religion peeking its head out thru the pages. It's not just for xians, we all can read the stories and smile. : }
Rating: Summary: Please read, you will find it worth your time!!! Review: A must read. In these books I learned to read and look for detail and the value of reading a book more than once. I still make a point of reading at least one of these books bi-monthly and usually the whole siries every 6 months. I am only 12 and I have maybe 7 more of C. S. Lewis' book to be read. He has taught me much and will probably teach me much more. If you have not read these books I would strongly recommend them. NO library is compleate without them.
Rating: Summary: Fourth time through and Narnia just gets better with age Review: Enjoyed it the first time years ago, then read it to the kids a couple of times through -- so it is no surprise they treasured the series so much it moved with them when they grew up. Imagine my surprise when the replacement shows up published in chronological sequence. Lewis may have agreed with somebody that such an order may have been easier to understand but it doesn't seem necessary. The original order was easily followed by the kids before they could read and it certainly left them with a sense of discovery and excitement that may be missing from the new order. Also, the cast of characters printed in the front seems to give away some of what is best discovered. Narnia is great fun and it is enjoyable at that level no matter how old you are. But Lewis' genius shows as he manages to help us explore ourselves, Christ, the world, nature, time and a few other topics along the way. And they put it under "Children's Literature"... One of the best ever written...
Rating: Summary: These books are really,really GOOD!!! Review: We read these books and we think that they were excellent! We highly recomend them to anyone who loves adventure! Make sure you read them no matter how old you are!!!
