Summary: A truly classic series for all ages. They must be read!
Review: I first read this series of books as a child. I was fascinated by every book in the series and I have since read them many times over (at least eight times). I am now in my twenties and I make it a point of reading them once a year. These books never grow old. They are perfect for sharing with your children and reading them for yourself, whatever age you are. The symbolism and connection to the Christian faith are incredible. Even if you don't believe in Christ these books are very entertaining. I cannot decide which is my favorite, though, since I enjoy them all. The connections between the books is stunning. Many of the story lines tie together. This series is truly an epic. I highly reccommend that they be read in their originally published order: 1. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 2. Prince Caspian 3. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader 4. The Silver Chair 5. The Horse and His Boy 6. The Magician's Nephew and 7. The Last Battle. If there is one series of books that a parent buys, this should be the one. Do yourself and your family the favor of buying the series today. Don't wait for Christmas or a birthday. You will not regret it. Please email me and let me know how you feel about the series.

Summary: The best books ever
Review: The best books ever. I got one from my sister and read it and then just had to get the whole set. I love them.

Summary: Just as great coming to them late
Review: The Chronicles of Narnia are just as great to read if you come to them as a mature adult as when you first read them as a child. I thought I'd missed out on Narnia when I first learned of these books in my 20's, and thought I was too old to read them. Waiting until my 40's when my children are in elementary school has given me a different perspective on these tales. (I'd read most everything else of CS Lewis' published work before coming to these "children's" tales.) We read the Narnia stories two chapters at a time before bedtime, and they're GREAT! The kids are enraptured by the magic and the adventure. I find myself in tears from the allegories of Christ (and my children are puzzled). My 7 1/2 year old son is discovering parts of the theological link on his own, as I hint to him that there is a subtext for him to figure out. The creation scene in "The Magician's Nephew" helped him to get some of it, but he didn't get the Easter connection to Aslan's actions in The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe. This is possibly because we read them in the new publisher's order rather than CS Lewis' original order. That alone is an argument to return to the original publishing order.

Summary: The crown jewels of my library
Review: The Chronicles of Narnia are quite possibly my favorite books -- and I've read a good deal in my time. I know parts of them by heart and yet they thrill me anew each time I read them. I read them first in the original order, with The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe first, and I'm very glad I did. TL,tW,&tW serves to introduce readers to Narnia and the following books spin out its history first as a series of delightful stories, moving to more serious matter in The Magician's Nephew and The Last Battle, bringing the Narnia stories to epic proportions. As I grow older, I find I appreciate the Narnia books more and more, so I challenge anyone who says they're only for children. The Chronicles of Narnia are one of the literary treasures of our age.

Summary: Lovely childhood memories
Review: I have marvellous memories of this whole set of books. I was 8 years old and living in China for a year, when I came across these books. I read one nearly every day for the next few months. Even now at 21, they are still a pleasure to read.

Summary: A Guiding Light in a Time of Darkness
Review: In this day and age, books like the Chronicles of Narnia are a necessity, especially with the cynicism and atheism of modern adolescents. C.S. Lewis was a literal genius, and the original books put to shame the money-hungry publishers who have butchered his writings in the modern 'abridged' versions of the stories in his passing. As for all the people who have downplayed the greatness of this story, the blindfolds they have cast over everyone should be torn away. EVERYONE should read this. Everyone should read it to their children. It should be required reading at school. The original series is definitely a must for all readers, young, adult, and elderly.

Summary: Narnia, my fantasy land
Review: There is only one c.s.lewis and there is only one narnia. This collection is for keeps. The magic and wonder of Narnia will continue to fascinate me for ever more. Once you read this collection you will love it always, but read it from number 1 downwards, never read it in the wrong order

Summary: Even better the second time around.
Review: It wasn't until years after I first read the Narnia books that I learned about C.S. Lewis's religious faith, and how the books are supposed to mirror Christian tales and values. I am not a believer myself, so I was afraid the books would seem overbearing and moralistic if I ever decided to re-read them. But that wasn't the case at all. First of all, these are fantasy stories as good (or better) than any I've ever read, and Lewis's imagination still seems astonishing, even compared with all the other books I've read since I was 13. In his universe, the characters can pass through paintings as if they were doorways, diamonds and rubies are fruits you can eat, and a witch threatens to destroy a civilization by uttering a single "Deplorable Word." At the same time, the characters are all too human, and an omniscient narrator observes their mistakes with understanding and sophisticated humor. It's true that the books include basic lessons about how you should live, but they're not told with self-righteousness. Instead they emerge honestly from stories filled with suspense, mystery and the suggestion of fabulous things -- like the idea of a Cockney cabby being whisked from working London and made a king, and the notion of a magical beast who is at once terrible, wise and infinitely compassionate. These stories leave you with the kind of feeling you have when you waken from a particularly lovely and fantastic dream, the sort that fades as you begin the day and which you struggle to remember later
