Rating: Summary: The Little Engline that Could--Original edition--hardcover Review: After reading the "original" "retold by Watty Piper" edition, I see that the little red and blue engines were both "she"'s and not "he"'s after all. I apologize for providing inaccurate information in my earlier review. I give the Watty Piper version only 4 stars because Piper's prose is verbose. Whoever rewrote the story for the Cristina Ong version should be commended for having a very good ear for English prose--Watty Piper did not--and should consider issuing a full-length version of the story with more of Cristina Ong's illustrations.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment Review: Amazon doesn't do a very good job of describing this book. It is a humongous board book and the toy train is meant to travel within a groove on various pages of the book. Not what I wanted at all! I was very disappointed to find that the illustrations were not the original--they are of a much, much lower quality. I have no idea what I am going to do with this thing!
Rating: Summary: Correction Review: Amazon.com wrote: The unknowing progenitor of a whole generation of self-help books, Wally Piper's The Little Engine That Could is one of the greatest tales of motivation and the power of positive thinking ever told.Wanted to inform the readers of the correction: Wally Piper should be Watty Piper.
Rating: Summary: A children's classic Review: Another favorite to read to the kids. It encourages them to be optimistic and try things that they might think are difficult.
Rating: Summary: A CHILDRENS SUCCESS CLASSIC Review: As a parent of three, one of the most important things I can give my children is motivation. The attitude that he or she CAN DO ANYTHING IF THEY THINK THEY CAN DO IT. By reading this story over and over again, the message will go into their conscious and subconscious mind and my hope is that they will follow their dreams and become all they are able to become. Zev Saftlas, Author of Motivation That Works: How to Get Motivated and Stay Motivated What better gift can a parent give their child than believing in them?
Rating: Summary: Wonderful story. Review: Even as an adult, the message is loud and clear - persistence pays off. A close friend gave me this book after I achieved a goal for which I had strived long and hard - this book was the PERFECT gift. I can't wait to share it with my daughter.
Rating: Summary: Breaks the language barrier Review: Few books are so gratifying to read to children for the first time. A child does not even need to understand English to "get" it. On first meeting our four-year-old son, who had never heard a world of English until then, I put him on my knee and impersonated each engine character chugging through these pages. He was scared and shy, but he loved the "characters," which I could only differentiate for him by sound, and he especially loved the famous repeating line "I think I can." As my whispers rose to crescendo, he squealed in delight. Nowadays he reads much harder books before going to sleep at night. But he likes every now and then to come back to this one: He well remembers the first moments of bonding with me, and with this book. Alyssa A. Lappen
Rating: Summary: My mommy read me this book Review: Hi, My mommy just read me the little engine that could...and just so you know, i am telling her what to type because I cant type yet. It is a very very very very very good book about choochoos. I like that they never gave up. I wish I could have a train like that and we could be friends. I especially liked the drawings inside. ok bye internet people.
Rating: Summary: Loved by all people Review: I first heard of this story while watching a Barney video with my son. I bought the anniversary edition of the book. The "shortened" board books - while culled from the original book - don't have the words that my son loves to hear - "I pull you - Indeed not!" and "I think I can, I think I can". The pictures are also great! My son loves to point at them especially the mountains. Now he wants us to read him this story everynight!
Rating: Summary: Eternal family favorite Review: I grew up on this book. For thirty years I've been reading it to my large family and they love it as much as I did. Now they're buying it for THEIR kids.
