Summary: A great book for children young and old
Review: did anyone who posted a negative review on this site even read the book? it seems like they are attacking Madonna personally - not the point of a review folks - back to 'The English Roses'

This is a great book for young children in todays age. it talks about loneliness, friendship and jealousy in a way that would get through to children. i am of course speaking of the way children today seem to judge people based on looks or what everyone else thinks. When i first heard that M was going to write this series of books i was skeptical at first but after the read i realize that she pulled it off swimmingly.

Summary: Great book!
Review: I picked up this book, yesterday, and read it to my cousin, and she really enjoyed it. She wanted me to read it to all of her little friends on the block, so she invited them over, and they all sat, and listened to the story, and wanted to hear it again. So, I gave it to my cousin, Brianna, and she read it the her little girl friends, and they all really liked the story. Now, the little girls on the block are referring to themselves as "The English Roses". Money well spent!

Summary: EXCELLENT
Review: i was a little worried about the notion of madonna writing childrens books. now that i have read 'the english roses' i am certainly impressed. madonna has always been known for her witty and intelligent lyrics. she certainly translates this into authoring a great book. i wish people would judge the book by it's content and not by the author. if so, people are definately missing out.

Summary: Time to Look at the Book and Not the Author
Review: The English Roses is a fine, delicate, gentle book that effortlessly tells a warmhearted story. The book does not claim to be revolutionary. The book does not claim to be mind-blowing nor complex. The book does not claim to be innovative nor preachy. However, the English Roses does claim to be a kindhearted, sympathetic children's book-which it is. The book is tastefully written with elegant, stunning illustrations. If people would actually read the story instead of looking at the author's name, they would be astonished at how well written the book truly is. If people would actually listen to the message of the book, they would not be judging Madonna for her past or her present, but rather they would appreciate that she is bringing positive ideas to our future generation of children.

Summary: A reminder to Christians
Review: Although I am not a Madonna fan or a Christian, the American "Christians" who are dissing this book due to a brief stage act should stop and think. The message in the book is to do onto others as you would have them do onto you, which is a main tenet of Christianity when the politics is removed from it. The other point of it is that how you appear is rarely who you really are. The world would be a more peaceful place if people could get this through their skulls. Most of the hate is due to the conservative idea in a material world that your actions equal your true self, which is simply false, especially an act on a stage. I doubt that if a male singer like Mick Jagger wrote a kid's book after sleeping with 4000 teens girls anyone would be hollaring about his inability to send messages to children "Instead of being born again, why not just grow up already"

Summary: Spoon Feed
Review: Madonna is not a children's author. Her story was very poorly written. If you are that curious, go read it in a book store, but don't buy it. Your kids won't enjoy it.

Summary: Judge the Book, Not the Author
Review: Reviews like those listed here which give this book one star (but would actually like to give it a zero - you know who you are) are not giving this book a fair shake. They are judging the book by the author - and the past things she's done. So she kissed two women a few weeks ago on MTV. Big deal! That's all I can say is BIG DEAL! Does that give the message she's conveying with this book any less of an impact? No it does not. One reviewer said to not let Madonna get near your kids. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Do you think she sits at home teaching her kids about anything but the highest moral standards? Definetely not. She's trying to do her part in making the world a better place, and instilling values in children is one way she's attempting to do that, and I give her all the props I can for that. I bought the book and think it is a very good story. I can't wait to have children so I can share it with them.

Summary: Beautiful and Thoughtful
Review: The was a wonderful book and Madonna did a great job.

I am so sick of all of these so called "reviewer's" who are giving the book a low rating because they dislike the author. These people have not even read the book. Do us all a favor and stay off the boards unless you have an intellectually honest review of the book.

Summary: Pleasant surprise
Review: I was impressed by the quality of the book - a new spin on an old tale. Important to note is that the profits are not going to Madonna - so this stands apart from other celebrity ventures. She is donating profits to a children's school. It's an enjoyable read for young children and the illustrations are quite striking.
