Rating: Summary: Buy it! Review: I read this book to my 8 year old daughter and we loved it! We discussed feelings of other children. It is lessons in life. The writing and illustrations are wonderful. I think Madonna did a beautiful job and it will be a part of my daughter's book collection. We will definitely buy her upcoming books.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book for children Review: Take it as it is, a wonderful book for kids. Its a shame that people are giving this book low reviews because Madonna wrote it, that is simply being ridiculous and not thought provoking. If you dont like the book its fine, but dont bash it because of the author. If you have kids in the house, read them this book which has a great lesson.
Rating: Summary: The English Roses Review: Fairly lame and unimaginative - doubt it would have ever been published had it not been written by a celebrity. There are wonderful children's books out there for this age group - I don't think I'd waste my money on this sort of thing.
Rating: Summary: Great Kids Book great Message! Review: I read this book with my neice and she loved it. Hope more grown ups will share this books with their kids. Can't wait for the next books from Madonna. Read it , judge the book not the writer.
Rating: Summary: "You Go Girl"... Review: This book shows a very accuate peek into everyday lives of many friend groups. Girls and boys alike will enjoy the story and how it gets the point about kindness and the feelings of others. My 7 year old daughter and I read it tonight, and we had smiles on our faces at the end. Congratulations to Madonna on a well written book.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs Up!!! Review: On a scale of 1 to 10 I give this book a 10! ( ... wait a minute, I already gave it 5 stars, so let's get the scale outta here ... ) But let's face it, the universe cannot get enough Cinderella stories or any of the other fairy tales kids thru adults so genuinely love (my favorite is: Little Jack Horne-r, sat in a corner, eating a blackberry pie ... He stuck in his thumb ... and the rest is history ... really, I'm not making this up ... oh, forgetabout-it ... it's just a nursery rhyme ... ) Anyway, thanks a bunch Ma ... I can't wait to read about Mister McFeeley's apples ...
Rating: Summary: Brilliant piece of Work Review: As a kindergarten teacher, I read this to my students in group reading. The story captivated the most "energetic" students. The ending had the children sharing their personal experiences with envy and jealousy. Students began hugging and speaking with others outside their "group". Madonna has told a valuable story about growing up. What a success. Negative critics should read the book and consider why they are really being so negative (envy)
Rating: Summary: I'm 20 yrs old and I'd learned Something Review: I have been a Madonna fan for as long as I can remember. I'd stuck with her through the ups and downs of her fantastic career. When I'd first heard she was doing a children books, I was shocked, just like everyone else. I said to myself "From a Sex book to a Children's book, what's next...yoga videos?" Its even hard for me to picture Madonna, sitting down and coming up with these concepts.I'd picked up "The English Roses" thinking that this was going to be some poorly written, kinda funny story book with cool pictures. I was wrong. There are very few books that teaches children what Greed and Jealously are. Its sad really, I'm 20 years old and I'm still learning things that I should have learned as a child. "The English Roses" takes place in the heart of London. Its a story of 4 girls, Amy, Nicole, Charlotte and Grace who are "Practically glued at the hip," These girls do everything together from, Talk on the phone about Boys to have tea parties to have a lovely lunch in the park. One day a beautiful girl named Binah moves into town and everyone comments on her beauty saying "She's so lovely, she's So Nice" The English Roses, Blinded by their jealously, decided to cold shoulder her and not invite her to any tea parties, sleep overs or anything like that. One night during a sleep over, the four girls all have the same dream. Here is what they dreamt. They are having a picnic in the part, sure enough the girls are talking about Binah. Out of Nowhere, a fairy God Mother appears on Nicole Sandwich. She offer then the chance to see what life is like on the other side. She takes them to Binah home to find her cleaning the floor. While watching her, they discover that her mother died when she was a baby, and she had to help out around the house. After seeing Binah life of cleaning and cooking, they decided to invite her in their inner circle of friendship and sisterhood. Not only do the girls learn from each other, but Binah teaches the girls how to make Apple Pie. When people see the newly revamp English Roses, they say "Wow look at those girls, they are going to grow up to be incredible woman one day" The story end with Madonna telling the reader that they too can grow up into some incredible. The story made me realize that I too am an English Rose, that I tend to get jealous of what other people have. Once again Madonna had taught me something, something that I should have knew a long time ago, The Grass is not always greener on the other side.
Rating: Summary: Absoluetly Beautiful Review: This story is very touching. It especially provides valuable lessons for children. It shows them why you shouldn't judge a person until you know them, and how making a new friend can get you further in life than jealousy or envy. Madonna did a wonderful job. I definitely recommend this book for people of all ages.
Rating: Summary: About Time!!! Review: It's about time that someone step forth and teach little girls and boys not to be hateful, judgmental, jealous creatures! All you "nay" sayers sound like bible-beating baptist hypocrits to me. Remember, "Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone."
