Summary: This book is a good counter-balance to Cinderella.
Review: I think this is an important book for any little girl to have, especially with the likes of Cinderella, Snow White, etc. A good lesson about being true to yourself. Not a bad lesson for young boys to learn either!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: It was a great book for adults as well as children.
Review: Although the book is for children, it was enjoyable reading for me. It has so many meanings in it. I like the way the Princess went on with her life after experining disappointment in her Prince. It could be a Charles and Diana story.

Summary: A great book for girls (princesses) and boys of all ages.
Review: This book was a gift to my boy/girl twins and was our first introduction to Munsch books. We were sold on both the author and the Paperbag Princess. A story of true courage, intelligence and personal values that even a small child can grasp. Thank goodness our son doesn't want to be a jerk. We frequently give this and Angela's Airplane as gifts to strong spirited young girls - of all ages

Summary: Girls Can Do Anything!
Review: If you are looking for a book with a smart heroine with common sense who doesn't just wait for her prince to save her, you will have trouble beating Elizabeth, the Paper Bag princess. In this story Elizabeth is betrothed to a prince named Ronald. When a dragon comes along and smashes her castle, burns her clothes and carries off Ronald, Elizabeth doesn't just sit crying in the ashes, but decides to go save her love Ronald. Sadly all she can find to wear is a paper bag, so she dons that and follows the trail of burnt forests and horses bones left in the dragon's wake. Through several tricks Elizabeth manages to outwit the dragon and incapacitate him. Ronald however, doesn't seem to appreciate her efforts. His warm welcome to Elizabeth goes something like this: "Elizabeth, you are a mess! You smell like ashes, your hair is all tangled and you are wearing a dirty old paper bag. Come back when you are dressed like a real princess." What makes this book one of the best books written is Elizabeth's response "Ronald, your clothes are really pretty and your hair is very neat. You look like a real prince, but you are a bum."

The illustrations are wonderful. They are bright, colorful, bold and expressive. The dragon is exactly as I would imagine a dragon to look like. The story is told in a very straightforward, simple manner that endears it to me.

Summary: Very Spunky!
Review: This is a fantastic feminist tale for any age or gender. Once again, Munsch fails to not please. The Princess' ideals are modern, her feeling she doesn't need a prince.

Summary: This may be my favorite book!
Review: What a brilliant story to encourage girls to be strong, smart, and realize beauty comes from within!

I have bought this for all friends with new babies...girls and boys. What a gift when we grace our children with the power of confidence and imagination.

Summary: Being who we are and not what someone wants us to be!
Review: A Princess who goes to great lengths to rescue and save her prince to find out he is nothing but a schmuck in the end. This is a great gift for teenagers who are at that stage in their life where they will go to great lengths to please those that they date and they do not always turn out to be princes in the end - you occassionally kiss a frog or two!

Summary: Wonderful story!
Review: As an Education major and child care employee, I have scoured book stores and book fairs to find quality literature for use in the classroom. I often utilize the preschool children that I work with as "guinea pigs" and rate thier reactions to such literature. They loved the Paper Bag Princess! Although I brought the entire Munschworks collection to school last week, I was asked (and often ordered) to read only thie particular story each day, and often several times in a day.
The children were filled with laughter at various points in the story, especially when I would flip to the page in which Elizabeth tricks the dragon into using up all of his firey dragon breath-the children would instantly yell out, "He doesn't have enough dragon breath to cook a meatball...ha ha ha".
By the middle of the week, the children were reciting this story to thier friends and parents, and even acting it out (they enjoyed calling each other bums at the end). Munsch stories are truly a delight for any classroom or individual child's library!
