Summary: Exceptionally good book
Review: I was at first reluctant to post this review because I didn't want to let the secret out. But to be fair, I must say this is the best book on servlets I have seen. It has a great section on http headers that I have not seen so well documented anywhere else. I have one copy and I plan to buy more for my colleagues, since it's usually out on loan when I need it the most.

Summary: The best book for learn Servlets and JSPs
Review: ..first of all.. i'm a cuban student, please excuse my English... I was reading some articles, books and tutorials about Servlets and JSPs and i think were very bored... then a friend told me about this wonderful book.... i read it very fast and i test all the examples... i think is very dynamic and is essential to learn Servlets, JSPs, and usefuls tricks for the web programming... if you buy this book, you will safe a lot of money and time and maybe (if you are web programmer) impress your boss at the work....

Summary: Want to learn how to make your servlets talk to a database?
Review: Chapter 18 of this book alone is well worth the price. Mater of fact the source code for the ConnectionPool class alone is well worth the price of this book. If you want to learn how to make your servlets interface with a RDBMS then don't look any further. Chapter 18: JDBC and Database Connection Pooling will get you going faster than any other book out there.

Summary: Solid Book, Concise and error Free
Review: In summary, a great book. I have struggled with many books that got lost in 1 complex example so you could not get your hands on reference material. Other books give perfunctory explanations that have no practical meaning. Still others are so full of mistakes, you realize they were thrown together. NOT THIS BOOK. Concise reference material, good small usable examples that support the material, and the book has been error-free for me so far. You can go into greater depth after you absorb this book. However, you will always refer back to this book because it is readable and clear. Finally, good direction on how to get these running on you home machine for practice. In short, get it and try the examples and start experiencing JAVA on the web server!

Summary: Best book on the market for learning Servlets and JSPs.
Review: Core Servlets and JSPs is currently the best book available for learning these two technologies. I have several other books on Servlets and, while each has pockets of information, none of them does as thourogh a job as this one. You will also find that the other Servlets books usually fail to cover Java Server Pages. The book is very easy to read, clear, accurate, and overall extremely well written. Of all the books I have evaluated, I selected this one for a one-week section on Servlets and JSPs which I teach as part of my company's training program. I highly recommend it to you as well.

Summary: Core Servlets sets itself apart from other JSP books
Review: This book is truly a good buy. If you are new to JSP and servlets then I would definitely recommend this book. Before I bought this book I purchased professional JSP by wrox press and it was badly written and its explinations were unclear. Plus the number of spelling mistakes in that book were rediculous, making the book untrustworthy. Marty Halls's book is organized well and clearly explains the technology so that anyone can understand it. It is also advanced enough to be used as a good reference. If you have ever had trouble staying awake while reading a programming book, don't worry, Core Servlets is actually written well enough to keep you interested and awake. So I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in JSP or Servlets. It is also easy to skip around the chapters if you want to read up on something specific. It tells you in the chapters if it is discussing something from another chapter, which can be very helpful if you don't understand that topic or if you have not read the other chapter yet. He also has a nice web page with notes on JSP and all sample code in an easily downloadable format.

Summary: Everyone looking for a good JSP-servlet start need to read
Review: I have read this book, and was very enjoined reading it. The book is simple to understand, good structural. Of course, as all books, it can not cover all aspects of the Web and Java programming. For example, you can buy other books, that cover LDAP and Java (Professional Java Server Programming) or sending multimedia content, internationalization (O'Reilly's Java Servlet programming). But this book is outstanding. I can recommend the O'Reilly book too.

Summary: Useful Book
Review: The beginning is very difficult for evey thing. So I chose Marty Hall's Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages (JSP). It provides me examples and detailed information about how to make servlets work. It's really like a wonderful teacher.

Summary: Best for the $
Review: One of the best book that I have read on JSP and Servlets. Whether you are a rookie or an Intermediate, you would like this book. But if you want are looking for something like an Encyclopedia then I would suggest "Professional Java Server Pages Programming, J2EE Edition" - This is by far the best that covers EVERYTHING.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Great only for some
Review: it is fair to say that half of the books is dedicated to printouts of programming examples. Thus if you enjoy reading telephone books, this book is definitely a goody. Still the remaining content pages are now and then worth to read.
