Rating: Summary: Excellent Resource and Learning Tool Review: I am new to servlets. But the book gives a very good introduction and I have benefitted alot from book. Marty Hall has responded promptly on some issues that I asked. The examples in the book are well planned -- from simple to tougher ones. Good for amateur like myself. I really enjoy his book.
Rating: Summary: Great Book for JSP and Servlets Review: Great book Marty. I used this book to write JSP pages for my company's client server application, which uses Weblogic server. This book starts with the basic concept, like where to place files once you write your code (most of the authors omit this info) and other basic details of customizing your web server and covers all the advance topics you ever need. I used other books like professional Java server programming and wasted three days and with Marty's book I was able to finish everything within two days.
Rating: Summary: Core Servlets and Javaserver Pages Review: Best Servlets Book I can find at the moment. The examples are very good and usefull for real work. It will be realy nice if one can get a CD for the source code although it can be downloaded.
Rating: Summary: Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages Review: I am a QA Engineer and was just learning JSP. This book was easy to read and the material was presented in a very organized manner. I use a lot of examples and they actually work (unlike some of the other books that I had purchased). Great Book !
Rating: Summary: The example code works the first time! Review: It is clear, understandable and the example code works! There is an excellent section on JDBC, JDBC servlets and Connection Pooling.
Rating: Summary: Used the database connection pooling Review: Great book. I needed an example of database connection pooling for my servlet. I skimmed the book, downloaded the code from website, and had a working program in a day. I hope I can take one of Marty Hall's classes one day, because he sounds like a great teacher.
Rating: Summary: The Best Servlet and JavaServerPage Book! Review: Mr. Hall's book is a comprehensive explanation of servlet and JSP technologies. It starts with the basics concepts and walks the reader all the way through to the more difficult concepts. Mr. Hall's writing style keeps the "heavy" stuff light. I have moderate Java experience and I'm a server-side Java neophite. Mr. Hall's book had me going in no time and I'm now creating an enterprise web application to interface with a legacy database.
Rating: Summary: Simple And Very Helpful Review: I was amazed at how simple he could explain difficult concepts and operations. Very practical and handy. Absolutely a must for beginners...
Rating: Summary: It's a hard core Review: A core is core. Core is NOT meat nor juice. Core is the very basic of the basics. As the core book for learners of the Java Servlets and the Java Server Pages, this book is excellent in its clear style and succinctness of the sample codes. I have enjoyed translating this book into Japanese. The Japanese edition will be out next January. Now I must look for some meat books and juice books which would adequately cover the real-world Web applications and their deployment/management know-hows.
Rating: Summary: Excellent approach & knowledgebase Review: I like the approach and knowledgebase displayed in book.
