Summary: Highly recommended!
Review: This book delivers! Clearly written, focused, and definitive. Exudes the author's passion for Java. Contains an excellent discussion on the advantages of JSP over "traditional" CGI. If you're considering servlets and JSP, get it. I haven't found a better book on the subject.

Summary: Very practical
Review: This is a very practical book worth every penny of it. It is one of the few book that really make me stay the long way and finish the it. It is concise and unlike other Servlets or Javaserver Pages books that concentrate on their respective areas, it encourages and teaches the readers how to mix the two together to make any web project flexible and organised. To stress again, it's a marvelous book. Contragulations to the author

Summary: A LUCID DISCUSSION OF THE TOPICS
Review: This is an excellent book that is well worth the price. It covers the major topics involving servlets and jsp's, with excellent examples to illustrate the concepts that the author is trying to establish. It has an excellect build up to complex topics, so a novice can pick this book up, and after careful study, can find him/herself with a solid foundation of the topics, and feel comfortable tackling complex projects. This book however, is not intended for the novice programmer. I recommend this book to those who are extremely comfortable with the Java programming language, and with HTML. Once you have those skills down, this book should be a very comfortable read. What is also impressive about this book is that it covers the fundamental concepts involving Servlets, and JSP's. Thus, after one studies this book, the reader may readily apply the concepts and tools learned from this book immediately into the industry. A well-written book whose availability could not have been better.

Summary: The first book a beginner should pick
Review: I gave a 4 star to this book before. Tio be fair, this book deserves better than that. This book is the most clearly written book on servlet and JSP. Examples and text are related each other, thus it is really good for beginners and intermediate level programmers. In fact I bought this book first and then Professional JSP and then Web development with JSP. I think this book is the best if you begin Servlet and JSP. I only think the author could spend more time on JSP since JSP is a clear winner over servlet in most cases. But JSP part of this book is enough to get you started. I recommend this book as the first buy if you are new to JSP/servlet technology. But keep in mind that JSP is a prefered technology in real world projects.

Summary: Getting started with JDBC
Review: I recently purchased this book. Its been a great resource and I've been able to reuse code from the jdbc chapter to put together small proof of concepts to demonstrate "java" concepts to my colleagues. The book has helped in our decision to start using Java.

Summary: JSP
Review: I have been working in the dynamic web application environment for over two years now, which has given me the chance to work with many of the most popular technologies: ASP, ISP (Open Market), CGI (perl,C), Server Side JavaScript etc. In my opinion JSP/Servlets gives the server side programmer the most room to create and develop, and Mr. Hall's book, "Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages" is the window to this promising web technology. It is loaded with clear examples and detailed explanations. I have bought every JSP/Servelt book on the market and this book takes first place.

Summary: Excellent to learn Servlets and JSP.
Review: If you want to learn about servlets and JSPs this is the right book for those because the author knows about what he is talking about and is a experimented in Web and Java technology. I hope this review serves to you.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good book but not detailed enough for a professionel project
Review: Sorry, I don't understand the hype about this book. No doubt, it is a good book but it has to less detailed informationen if you plan a professionel project with servlets and JSPs. Additional, you need a more verbose book concerning JSPs (e.g. Fields / Kolb "WebDevelopment with JavaServer Pages"), where you find details about architectural issues and practical issues like form validation with memento pattern. Three stars as standalone book; five stars in conjunction with Fields/Kolb book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: quick learning
Review: I'm enjoying the book very much, because it's just answering all the questions I've got about servlets+Java technologies, and what is more important I'm learning a lot in just a few days.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Good Introductory Book for Servlets and JSP
Review: I am new to Servlets and JSP. I thought the book did a good job explaining both subjects to a beginner. I liked the idea of having both subjects covered in one book. I also liked how the book tied in both areas.
