Rating: Summary: greetings Review: Thanks a lot Marty! I just bought your book, and it really has been helpful to me. You wrote it very clearly, so I easily understood the concepts inside. Ok, the pdf is the last step, so I will wait the site publication.
Rating: Summary: Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages Review: The book is extremely well organized. It provides successive layers of explanation to avoid overwhelming the reader with too much detail in the beginning.I found the book to be better than its O'Reilly counterpart, from both readability and example perspectives. The author has a very pleasant writing style. This is a high-quality work, consistent with the other Core publications.
Rating: Summary: Good book for a beginner... Review: Good book for a beginner but sometimes confusing.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Intro Book to Servlet and JSP Review: An excellent introduction to servlet and JSP for people with some foundation in Java. Explanations are very detailed and examples provided are useful. The level of details is just right: not too overwhelming for beginners and enough for intermediate servlet/JSP programmers. I highly recommend this book to people who wants to learn servlet and/or JSP.
Rating: Summary: Great examples but DON'T use as a study guide! Review: This is an all around good book with great useful examples. It is good especially if you are new to the whole web server concept. If you are familiar with web servers, response codes and forms, you may want a more concise book (there are a few out there). NOTICE: If you are studying for the J2EE Web Components Certification Exam, you may want to get a newer book because some of the naming conventions are out of date. In otherwords, wrong answers on your exam!
Rating: Summary: Great Introduction to Java Servlets and JSP Review: Marty Hall is indeed a great teacher. I bought his book, "Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages," and read through it with great enthusiasm and almost like a novel with its comical and amusing examples. For the first time, I have a general understanding of what servlets, applets, and the server pages are all about. I recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Excellent overview Review: Hall has laid out the chapters extremely well. I especially like the book's division between servlets and java server pages. Haven't yet finished reading all the pages, but what I've read so far has been very helpful in my understanding of the technology.
Rating: Summary: Best book Review: This is the best book in this topic in the market. I began to study on J2EE from this book. It help me a lot. It is wise to to first talk Servlet then JSP. Otherwise it is difficult to understand JSP along. But finish this book is far away from enough of studying J2EE. More ~~~~ needed to be learned.
Rating: Summary: Best book for learning server side scripting with Java Review: This is an excellent book for learning server side scripting using Java. The book has adequate examples and some serious code snippets that one would find very useful in web development. For example, one of the chapters covers database connection pooling. Marty Hall has a nice way of explaining things, through real world examples. His style of coding is also consistent and easy to grasp. The book covers both servlets and JSP, equally well. It would be nice for the new editions of the book to discuss about servlet containers like Tomcat. Also, these editions could possibly cover XML, XSLT etc, in the context of web development. In all, this is a great book on servlets and JSP. It is worth the investment.
Rating: Summary: This book will teach you how to be a bad JSP programmer Review: Total waste of money and time. This book is like a syntax reference. It fools you to believe that you are learning JSP. I DID NOT READ IT UNTIL THE END, BUT I THINK IT DOES NOT MENTION THE MVC PARADIGM. I don't have time to write all the reasons why this book is not worth your money. So just believe me: There are better books about JSP/Servlet.
