Summary: Comprehensive and to the point
Review: Marty Hall's coreservlets book is quite simply the clearest and best value for money computing book I have ever purchased. The writing is comprehensive with no "padding", giving you all the information you need in a logical and straight forward manner. If you need to know about servlets and JSP, and how to make them work together BUY IT.

Summary: Really an excellent book on JSP and Java Servlets
Review: Marty Hall, does it once again. He has written good technical stuff regarding to JSP and Java servlets.Custom Action Section is good. But he should have taken examples on developing custom actions on database(jdbc). It's worth its price.

Summary: Get up and running quickly
Review: By chapter 2 you have everything you need to run a small website from your computer. If you are totally clueless about web servers and/or jsp, and want to get to the "hello world" stage quickly, this is the book for you.

Summary: Marty Hall's Core Servlets JavaServer Pages is Great
Review: Marty Hall's book "Core Servlets and JavaServlet Pages", is first rate. This book cleared up more for me in a week than I had been able to figure out in two months from other sources; especially the information on request and response headers in http, and URL encoding. I find that many books are either: too cookbook (follow the examples) or too advanced (no basic information)but this one was "just right". I have it on my desk next to another favorite, Bruce Eckel's "Thinking in Java".

Summary: No hype just facts
Review: When I first got this book I hated it because I did not understand what it was talking about. After I read a book on asp and got an idea what web development was and came back to core servlets and java server pages, I have not been able to put it down. I have a ton of web dev books but this is by far the best. No hype just the facts! this book does a great job covering servlets, jsp, tags, and creating your own tags using XML etc... This book is a must have for any one that wants to posses the true power of jsp and servlets! I no longer use asp!

Summary: Excellent Refrence
Review: Marty Hall has done an exceptional job with this book. The information contained within is exceptionally well presented. I would recomend this to all levels of programmers working with servlets and JSP

Summary: If You're Serious, This Is Your Book
Review: Anyone who has gotten past the basics in Java knows that Servlets and JSPs are where it's at. Every company that has had any experience with e-commerce has come to the realization that Servlets and JSPs are the only way to go. As a Java Developer, then, you have read many books and you know how different they can be. Well, if you're looking for a book to give you the best bang for your buck, this is your book. It doesn't try to do everything--it just focuses on the twin powers. What I liked about it was its comprehensive approach. It gave a very thorough introduction to Servlets, then JSPs and it covered Beans a bit too. Very prudent. If you download the free Tomcat server you should be all set. Now--mind--you can have some pretty harrowing times trying to figure out where to put your Servlets and JSPs so that they will be picked up by the Server. I know I did and--surprise, surprise (to quote Gomer Pyle)--I sent an email to Marty Hall (the author) and he responded the next day! Amazing. Anyway, he pointed me to an archive at the book's website and it trully led me through it every step of the way. And that's after plaguing the sun Servlet-user and JSP-user groups to no avail. So, if you've read the other fine Sun Core books, I can add my voice. Get this book and you won't regret it.

Summary: Getting much more than your money's worth
Review: I've got more than my share of Java, Javascript, HTML, XML, EJB,and books of this genre. I'm almost always looking for specific information, e.g., an example of what I'm looking to get done, or well-presented things to be learned forever. To get specific, I was looking to do a prototype for an IBM Websphere and IBM DB2 Database based application and I needed to beg, steal or borrow as much extant code or techniques as I could, because I needed this yesterday. This book is very well written, presented in a readable and pragmatic format and I was able to borrow and incorporate immediately into my own code much of what I was in need of. The book is certainly one of the very best covering the topics of Servlets and JavaServer pages that I've seen. It's a 4 out of 5 only because it did't totally write my application for me. It's really a 5 for would-be students of this technology.

Summary: Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages(JSP)
Review: Easy to read and learn for professional with have limited knowledge on JSP or Servlet. Examples are good and can be use for my project.

I would rate the book higher if it had more information or chapters on XML.
