Summary: Win2K Resource Kit
Review: Hello to all, I have Mark's PC upgrade and Win2000 Resource kit set, and boy am I glad I do !!! Mark explainations are very easy to understand, and are more than helpful. If you are going to become Certified, and who isn't now a days, then these books are a must, but for the Win2k Set, you should have inferential knowledge of NT 4.0, which Mark also writes about. If you don't have PC upgrade, get that first, then move on to WinNT 4.0, and Win2K, with these books in your corner, the PC is nothing more then a familar friend for the future in your world of knowledge. These books are also recommended by a CBT company who's course I also use, and are very highly recommended so, go for it.

Summary: Administrator's Guide - YES *** 2000 Upgrade Exam Prep - NO
Review: This book is a heavyweight both literally and figuratively. I planned to use this book to study for my MCSE 70-240 upgrade exam. After 8 chapters my patience has worn thin. The author CONSTANTLY regurgitates the same information and concepts throughout the book. One Example: A thorough discussion of 2000 Groups in Chapter 2 is covered AGAIN almost verbatim in Chapter 8. However, this book serves as a thorough Administrator's on-the-fly HELP! guide. Each chapter is an independent unit. The pressed for time system admin can easily flip to the most appropriate chapter and get a full explanation of their topic. This book will be foremost in my technical library for day-to-day solutions. I am just not utilizing it for exam preparation.

Summary: Master Win2K Server
Review: I attended a training class for Alexander Hamilton Institute back in '94 that Mark Minasi taught. I never heard of him before, but I was very impressed with the coverage of Windows NT 3.51 and the touch of 4.0, Mark has never seemed to make me feel that I could ever find a better book. He explains things on a level that is fantastic. Over the years the level has came down..but never the less, I can read any of his books from cover to cover and learn information that I would have never crossed.

Cheers to Mark for his continuing fantastic work!

Summary: Makes Active Directory a breeze
Review: I am half through chapter 2 of (Mastering Win2k Server, 2nd edition) and I have never read anything like it. I read a ton of articles and white papers about active directory and nothing came even close to the simplicity and fun of what I have read so far. I think Mr Minasai is well worth his reputation and I will buy his LINUX book for sure. By The way, against Mr. Mainasai's advice, I am using this book to prepare for the Win2k upgrade exam !!

Summary: NOT for Beginners
Review: I am new to Windows 2000 Server having bought it to start a web server for my small laboratory services business. The book was rated highly so I gave it a try. When the title says MASTERING it really means you better have prior MS Server experience as a prerequisite to using this book.

Much of the writing in this book assumes a working knowledge of the basics including installation, network setup, server configuration and more. For example, only brief descriptions were given of some entries required during installation. Many install topics where barely mentioned at all even though the concept and proper configuration of these are critical to proper install and server configuration. Some topics are discussed in great detail but seeking this information out among the entire text was difficult at best. The organization and flow of the text in this book could not be easily applied to a new install / setup situation.

In short this is not a HOW TO type of book and you should look elsewhere if you are a beginner.

Summary: Great
Review: This book was very comprehensive, as well as easy to read. It does a great job of illustrating Active Directory in all of it's NDS like glory! If you are pretty familiar with NT4.0 then this book is all you need.

Summary: Probably the best technical book I ever bought
Review: This book not just provides a perfect overview and insights on 2000 Server but also a lot of easy-to-read information about TCP/IP, networking etc. etc. Even though I am not an NT expert nor a network specialist I set up my network at home without trouble, thanks to Mark and his great book. I would give 10 stars if I could!!!

Summary: Mastering from the master
Review: If you just beginning or even NT veteran wants to learn Win2000 from the ground up. Then let this book lead your way. Mark cooked this book darn well to present Win2000 in sequence, that will give you good understanding of each component and features. With win2000 resource kit in your hand, you'll be mastering win2000 at ease even for the exams itself.

Summary: The Best Windows 2000 Server Book Out There
Review: Easy to Read and Understand

Forget the MCSE and IT Professional Books. They are hard to read and assume that you know certain things. Mark Minasi puts it in plain and simple words and he walks you through everything. On top of that, he has email support and he actually responds to the emails, not some tech guy that doesn't know stuff.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best book out there!
Review: As a Windows 2000 trainer since the early beta days, I can honestly say that this is by far the best book on the market for general Windows 2000 Server information. Minasi has always been considered one of the best Windows NT technical writers, and this book is no exception. Well written, highly informative, and even entertaining, this book will teach you things that Microsoft never will.
