Rating: Summary: Mastering Windows 2000 Server by Mark Minasi Review: Excellent book! Several things I particularly liked about Mark Minasi's book are that he and his co-authors completely reviewed the material as soon as Windows 2000 came out.. so it is very accurate (which is why it is the 2nd Edition).. Another thing is that Mark is not afraid to show the "warts" that still remain (albeit much fewer) in Windows(NT 5 ... er.. 2000, I mean..) The Microsoft Administrator's Companion is also good, but I liked Mastering Windows 2000 better particularly from a readability poin of view.. Considering they are both hefty books.. 1333 pages for the Administrator's Companion and 1496 for Mark Minasi's book (excluding appendicies) and many hours will be required to digest it all, readability should not be taken lightly ;-).. If you have to choose one..(can swing 1496 pages, but not 2800+ pages.. Mastering Windows 2000 is the better buy.. ..........
Rating: Summary: Straight Shooter Review: Everything you need to know on 2000/NT Server is here. The book also contains great comparisons between the different features of NT4 and Win2K. Don't look any further!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK ROCKS Review: minasi is an excellent author. he tells you how it is and is very straight forward.
Rating: Summary: Mastering Windows 2000 Server Review: Having used titles from Microsoft Press and several other publishers, I can state that this book was BY FAR the most helpful book in learning NT. As a Beta Tester for Microsoft, I was somewhat disappointed by their lack of ANY physical documentation to the thousands of beta testers when they received their final copies of Windows 2000 Server. This book more than makes up for it. Now, if only I could get Microsoft to pay for the book... Thanks Mark!
Rating: Summary: Mastering Winsdow NT 2000 server Review: I don't know how to stretch this enough, but Mark Minasi is the best as far as the Microsoft NT (on both NT 4.0 and NT 5.0 - aka Windows NT 2000) subject is concerned. I have been a big fan of Mark for a long time. I believe I'm not the only one. I have encouraged my students to buy his books all the times. The book is really thick, but Mark didn't leave any single page to be without a substantive amount of information. Moreover, Mark never leaved any subject to be touched lightly. Rather, Mark has proven over and over again on many of his books, not only on this one, that he would take time to go deep down to every single subject so that his reader will get the most out of it. (...) You can buy as many other books as you wish, but I can assure you that if you name anything that stands out on those books, I would be able to point out that thing has been covered, and covered rather deeply, in Marks' books without any problem.(...) Another thing, you can have a few laughs when reading Mark's book. This guy really has a very good sense of humor. Thanks so much Mark. Tam T. Nguyen, MCSE, MCP+I.
Rating: Summary: Quite good, but could be better if.... Review: I bought the book to prepare for Win 2000 beta exams, the book is good but some areas such as RADIUS, Certificate Server, IAS wasn't very well covered (or wasn't covered enough...). I would recommend to also buy the Win 2000 Server Administrator's Companion (and others if possible....) to cover everything needed, either for exam or daily operations.
Rating: Summary: Not that good as the other comments Review: I buy this book because all the comments on it are good, but I go through the first hundred pages finding it not that good. The book can be half of its thickness if Mark wrote more directly like the books on-line. Nearly half of the words are irrelvant to the topic. I appreciate the BOL writing style - straight to tell you everything. I still need a book because the BOL is not in a book form and I don't know how to print them in an organised sequence.
Rating: Summary: You Only Need One Book for W2000 Server and this is it! Review: I'm Running small networks on W2000 and this is the only book I'm going need. The rest go in the dungeon with my CPM books. I'm just sorry I didn't find this one first. It's easy to follow, has a well balanced level of information for anyone using 2000 Server, and I'm certain that even someone who is not familiar with 2000 Server could grab this book, along with the installation CD and need nothing else.
Rating: Summary: A must have reference an excellent training guide Review: If you only have one Win2000 book on your shelf, make sure this is it! This book has been an invaluable to me during a large Win2000 migration at a Fortune 50 company. Mark's writing style is unique, making it easy to retain and understand important concepts. He leaves no technical stones unturned and even has a companion website and newsletter to update the book and correct/clarify any technical issues
Rating: Summary: Minasi does it again folks! Review: I just want to give props to Minasi one more time. His book has the same quality of his previous Mastering Series (NT4). A must buy to get affiliated with all the new goodies and how exactly to implement them right the first time. Want to learn more in depth check out the Microsoft Windows 2000 technical reference books after reading Minasi's masterpiece.
