Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE A FIELD TECH
Review: I've been a MCSE now for about 5 years and this is the worst read I've ever had in terms of application. This book could be half the size if the author simply cut down on all the flowery explanation and potification. He simply needs to tell you why things are done and then how to do them.

If you have the time at your IT job to read a college-like text book, then this book is for you. If you want to have a long drawn-out conversation each time you have a basic to advanced question about a Microsoft topic, then this book is for you.

Please stay away if you are needing to get the job done and fast, but need some sound, clear, concise instruction.

Summary: The Bible of Windows 2000 !
Review: An another outstanding piece of work from the master of Windows. If you can only purchase one book for W2k server, this is the one to have ! As usual, Mark explains all the new stuff in a straightforward manner and actually makes the dry stuff seem interesting with his unique style of humor in explaining technical issues.

Don't even think twice, just get it, it's a steal!

Summary: Best Technical Writing EVER!!
Review: Mark has an amazing way with words and is able to bring to life the role of Administrating the Win2K Operating System. I enjoy reading, both technical and nom-technical books, but typically technical works can be a bit on the dull side even though I enjoy the topic they are writing about. Mark is able to write about technical subjects and keep the reader fascinated, and even entertained while learning the subject matter. His use of humor and honesty really comes forth in his works. I will continue to buy any of his books that come out. You CANNOT go wrong in getting this book. This book is THE DE FACTO Windows 2000 Server Administration book!

Summary: The Very Best Book/Author
Review: I have had the opportuniy to see Mark Minasi at many tradeshows and technical reviews. In my career as a network/system admin, I have poured though copious amounts of technical, how to manuals to still be left asking how do I do this or that. I must say Mark's writing style is a refreshing change from the standard "We shall not insult or offend the Great and Powerful Microsoft" technodrone we hear form other resources. You will find out what works and what doesn't! In all, I think you will find this book resourceful and practical not only in content but also Mark's staright forward, no fuss attitude. Keep up the great work Mr. Minasi.

Summary: Beware, exam crammers, this is not an MCSE Study Guide...
Review: This book is for admins who are looking to really learn Windows 2000 rather than cram for an exam. Mark knows NT/2000 inside out and has an incredible knack for putting this knowledge on paper into easy to understand terms. Thanks, Mark, I've been with you since the first PC Maintainance Guide...

Summary: Mastering Win2k Server 3rd
Review: Mark is a great writer! It's easy to read and it covers all the points. Read and understand this book and you've got Win2k down.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best general book on Windows 2000 Server!
Review: This book is great! There are plenty of other books that might have more technical information, or perhaps cover specific subjects in greater detail. However when it comes to overall, general books about the major topics one needs to master in order to administer a Windows 2000 Server, well this book is simply the best. It is written in an easy to read manner while not compromising the wealth of information presented.

If you're into reading nothing but technical details, or are interested in a few specific topics, then this book might not be for you. However if you're like the rest of us and need a book that is both fun to read and provides all the major necessary information you'll need to help you run your W2K server, then this is the one.

Summary: Great Admin Guide
Review: I have utilized a number of Mr. Minasi's "Mastering" books as a reference and to be certain there are none more valuable than the new Mastering Windows 2000 Server Third Edition. Upon migrating to Win 2000, there were countless obstacles to hurdle which is to be expected with the rollout of a new networking platform. The first edition saved me a great deal of time and anxiety. I skipped the second edition and the third is better yet. I'm not sure I would recommend this book for the novice trying to pass a certification exam although I did find it helpful, it is more of an admin tool. Mark's ability to communicate and educate through the written word on technical topics is a thing of beauty. I've waded through a mountain of technical reference and educational books and Mark Manasi makes it easier and almost entertaining. Well, entertaining may be a stretch. I give the Third Edition my highest recommendation.

Summary: A must have guide Windows 2000 Server guide
Review: Mark Minasi's lastest incarnation of his excellent Mastering Windows NT and 2000 series continues his tradition of bringing solid tech information to us in an easy to read format. His books are on my short list of computer publications that I enjoy reading from cover to cover (most seem to wind up being used like an encyclopedia).

I've purchased every edition of his Mastering NT or 2000 Server book since the second NT version and have found very useful information in every edition. I often have three copies around (one at the office, in my car, and at home). With the great addition of the text in .pdf on the CD, I've reduced to two copies (sorry Mark and Sybex).

As a Microsoft MVP, I answer technical questions in support forums and regularly recommend Mark's Mastering Windows 2000 Server book to people who are attempting to use a new feature or having a 2000 problem.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Brilliant - no other word for it
Review: This is the best book in its field - no doubt about it. I have read other books on the subject and none of them are as well written or as comprensive as Mark's book.

The TCP/IP section is just outstanding, its one the longest chapters in the book, but when you start it, you will not be able to put it down.

If this book was double its price,it would still be very good value.

I also have the Microsoft resource kit(seems to me to be written in a language other than english) and the MCSE training kit for Microsoft Windows 2000 server(It is also very good but leaves a lot of questions unanswered). Marks book has the comprensiveness of the resource kit with the ease of reading of the training kit.

Buy it - you will not be dissapointed.
