Rating: Summary: My God - Its full of stars Review: This was the best single resource my IT department uses to maintain knowledge of Windows 2000 Server. In fact, when I ordered the book, everyone in the dept liked it so much, the pages were beginning to show signs of wear and tear - and that was at the end of one week. We eventually ordered more but it underscores what a great resource this book really is.
Rating: Summary: Made it to the 3rd edition - speaks for itself Review: In the highly competitive market of technical books (especially regarding Microsoft products) very few "survive" into later (revised) editions. This book is one of them - an exceptionally well written reference and problem solver.
Rating: Summary: Solid Procedures AND Best Practices Review: No single text could answer all possible questions about a subject as vast as Windows 2000 Server. But this text covers most of the bases with clear descriptions of both background and procedures. As a Netware administrator who has had to learn the Windows way of thinking, I've found the text indispensable.I was particularly impressed by the even-handed coverage of Windows, noting both the good points and the bad points. This is a valuable mix of information; not all articles are so well balanced. I also appreciated the tips on the best way to accomplish things ... other books merely recite basic procedures, without suggesting best practices. This is a valuable reference work!
Rating: Summary: Best Technical Book I have read Review: I have purchased over a hundred technical reference and programming books over the past many years. The majority are the typical reprint / rehash of the publisher's manual and help files with some examples and a CD thrown in. This book is NOT that. Mark Minasi's writing style is clear, straight forward and with even a little humor thrown in for good measure. While I orginally purchased it as a reference tool, I have found myself working through the chapters for the wealth of knowledge that it contains. If you manage a W2K server, this book is a MUST have.
Rating: Summary: Windows 2000 Made easier Review: What can I say about this book, it's all been said. I found this book helpful in setting up a Windows 2000 server, but wish it had a bit of better structuring. This is the sharpest criticism I have for an otherwise excellent book. It covers all the bases.
Rating: Summary: The best book for Windows 2000 Server Review: This book is very easy to understand. I've read other W2K books and they don't give you as much information. The book is very detailed. I use this as a study guide and a reference. I really like the DNS section. After reading this book, I run my own root DNS server which is great for Exchange Labs.
Rating: Summary: Really useful Book!!! Review: It's really usefull book with practical information that you need to study Win2k Server from the scratch. You can use it also as reference. Chapters are organized well. The writing is very understandable.
Rating: Summary: Great Book ! Review: I just took the Microsoft W2K Advanced certification test (70-240) and passed. The passing grade was a result of self study and working with the product. I used the Microsoft "Windows 200 Accelerated Training Kit", Coriolis "Windows 2000 Accelerated" and "Windows 2000 Server". "Windows 2000 Server" is by far the best I have seen. When I have a question or can't understand an issue, I use "Windows 2000 Server". The writing is very clear and understandable. I am a consultant and certification is extremely important to my livelihood. "Windows 2000 Server" has been instrumental in helping me in my goal to certify in W2K.
Rating: Summary: Minasi is the Commandant!!! Review: I am setting at my desk one night, eyes a bright crimson shade of red, about 3:25 AM, heart about to explode due the massive amounts of caffiene that I had ingested, my hair standing on end after having attempted to pull it out for the last seven hours working on a DNS issue with Windows 2000 Server. I put both of my hands on my chin and my fingers covered my eyes at the moment. I slightly parted my index finger from my middle finger for a second and caught sight of my bookshelf. And then through an extreme blur I could see the big words " Mastering Windows 2000 Server, Third Edition." Went to the "glorious" DNS section, figured out what I was doing wrong, and was out of there in about 15 minutes. Do yourself a real big favor folks. If you deal with Win2K in any capacity at all, don't ever be caught without this book!!!! Rock on Minasi!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Best Windows 2000 Book Review: This book is perfect for students and aspiring system administrators. The book is as easy a read as you can get, its even enjoyable at times. The author brings his experience as well as his knowledge about system administration. He explains how windows 2000 works and why it works that way. I highly recommend this book.
