Rating: Summary: Good into Review: The book and CD teach by example. Together, they provide a good introduction to the capabilities of Visual Basic, which is the intention of the book. If you are looking for more in-depth material, this is not the book. But, if you have little/no experience with VB, this is a good start.
Rating: Summary: GREAT FOR BEGINNERS Review: Halvorson's book is a great start to VB6 newcomers. I was able to go from cover to cover within a week of careful studying, and must admit my original VB1 and VBA concepts and coding ability were greatly refreshed. The last two chapters, Days 13 and 14 could be better explained, but it seemed beyong the book scope. Recommended as a getting started! Note: If you got the book bundled with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Deluxe Learning Edition, go straight to the other title (Programmer's Guide) before you venture in serious development. Also, be aware that you CANNOT create distributable applications (*.exe) with the VB6 Learning Edition. You have to upgrade to the VB6 Professional Edition to do so!!)

Rating: Summary: This is the book for beginers in VB 6.0. Review: Excellent book, no doubt about it. The book starts from a very ground level and builds thereupon. Definitely a very good book to start with. But you will need something else for the advance level.
Rating: Summary: This is a very "GOOD" book for rookies and beginners :) Review: This is a very good book for anyone who is interested in learning the basics of vb 6.0. Mr. Halverson, did a great job in explainging and giving real world visual basic application examples. I really enjoyed reading this material, the examples in the book were easy to follow step by step. I am very new to vb 6.0 programming and, I would not hesitate for one second to buy another book from Mr. Halvorson. I am currently preparing myself for a new career as a vb programmer. I just started chapter 10 and, I am looking forward to completing the entire book within several weeks. On a scale from 1 to 10, this book rates 9 or 4.5 stars. I will say one thing, that is Michael Halvorson is the "MANNNN!"
Rating: Summary: nice introduction to VB but lacking depth Review: This book is difficult to rate. I would highly recommend it for someone with NO programming experience. The writing is very clear and is easy to follow. Other than that, it is a decent overview of VB if you have never programmed in VB. It touches many areas of the language. However, it fails to explain concepts fully and is of little use after it's been read. I would have given the book a better review except that it claims to be written for people with programming experience and even VB experience. It is of definite use to people who have never programmed before, but of limited value to experienced programmers.
Rating: Summary: Good start for beginners with no VB background. Review: This book gives a good background on the basics of Visual Basic. It got me off and running in programming in Basic. Although it does not go into depth as much as I would have hoped and skips some topics I would like to know about, I did come out of the book with more knowledge than I have gained from any other programming book.
