Rating: Summary: If you only buy one book on LightWave, make it this one Review: This is the book that was missing from the LightWave box! If you're looking for in-depth coverage on several aspects of Lightwave, this is an excellent choice. The chapter on modeling a head is almost worth the price of the book. Dan Ablan walks through several projects step-by-step and shows us a lot of tips and tricks along the way. This certainly doesn't replace the LightWave book, but it's the perfect next step for a beginning/intermediate LightWave user.
Rating: Summary: The BEST has come and it is FINE Review: Even though I just bought this book a couple of days ago I can already tell that it is perfect for the new and daunting Lightwave 7. Its thickness is overwhelming but the value within it all is tremendous. I strongly recomend this book with its great tutorials and examples it is the key to understanding Lightwave. I hope that you buy this book and if you do, you have definitly made the right choice.
Rating: Summary: Overrated and Overpriced Review: First, I want to say this isn't a bad book. But considering what other people have said about it -- that it is the "LightWave Bible" -- I believe it is highly overrated and unquestionably overpriced. Nine times out of ten when I'm looking for something I'll find it in the manual (which is quite good) instead of in here. Especially as the index is almost completely useless. The manual, not this book, is the definitive source for using LightWave. You should buy it only as an auxilary source of information. And only if you have money to burn.
Rating: Summary: Buy this book! Review: YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS BOOK.I got this book the day it was released. Not only is this, and all other Dan Ablan books very informative, they are extremly easy to read and fun as well. If you are looking for a book to teach you lightwave 7, this is the one. I haven't seen any technical books that even come close.
Rating: Summary: What can I say? Review: THIS BOOK ROCKS MY WORLD! Not only that, I learned a lot too! This is clearly the best bang for the buck when it comes to LightWave reference guides. I have all of Ablan's books, and this one takes the cake. There is information on everything from human modeling, to plug-ins to logos, to buildings, and even some compositing. Lots to learn with this tome. I've just ordered Mr. Ablan's 3D Garage LightWave signature courseware from 3dgarage.com - while I'm not quite a beginner, it will be a great additional reference set of CD's to go along with this book. I'm looking forward to the next one! y.
Rating: Summary: If you animate with Lightwave--GET THIS BOOK Review: Dan Ablan has a way with explaining an incredibly complex program in an easy-going way. The myriad of buttons and settings within Lightwave are explained in an easy-going manner. The tutorials get your feet wet on real-world projects. Little by little, the fear of Lightwave disappears and the program becomes more and more friendly. This is a MUST HAVE.
Rating: Summary: Don't think about it...BUY IT! Review: If your new to Lightwave, this is THE book to get. the tutorials are in-depth, however easy to follow! It touches on just about every topic. I bought this book on the first day it came out. The chapters make you create great projects while learning, which gives you a sense of satisfaction and desire to move on. Another great reason is that, even after i finished this book, I leave it next to my computor because I can go back to specific chapters to brush up a tough effect I'm looking to create. This is well worth it!
Rating: Summary: great book Review: This book is great. Cover the majority of the tools of lightwave 7. Great for people without CGI knowledge.
Rating: Summary: Inside LightWave 7 Review: To get straight to the point, this book is fantastic, and an essential resource for all Lightwave 7 users! The book succeeds where the Lightwave User Manuals fall painfully short. The manuals for this mammoth piece of software, although nigh-on exhaustive with regards to explanation of Lightwave's plethora of tools, lack in detailed tutorials which show the benefits and possibilities of these tools. Inside Lightwave 7 however is jam-packed with lengthy tutorials which span from the very basics of using Layout and Modeller, right through to complex character design tutorials. Even the most basic of these however contain tips and time-saving tricks which will benefit both beginners and seasoned renderers alike. As a bonus, not only does the book come with a CD with all of the tutorial scenes and models, it's also crammed with extra textures and demos. Dan Ablan's book reaches all possible readers, challenging and imaginative enough to inspire experienced Lightwave users, while being easily accessible to those new to the 3D world. Absolutely essential!
