Rating: Summary: 7th Heaven Review: Dan "the Man" Ablan has done it once again with Inside LW 7. This book is a must have to any Lightwaver new or old school.
Rating: Summary: Who is Rory M. Berger?? This Book is Fantastic! Review: For Mrs. Berger's review - is all you have to say about this masterpiece that it does no have enough Motion Designer information? I mean, c'mon! Sure the information on MD could be more, but they give you the framework and foundation for creating anything you want. This is not a paint by numbers book. This book TEACHES you how to use the program and it's tools. The idea is that you now know how the program works with clear examples that you can apply to WHATEVER you like. No other book offers that. If you can't figure out something, the key to understanding is in this book. Read it, learn it, and then the world is your oyster when it comes to LightWave. Read beyond the words. This book doesn't just give you a fish - it teaches you how to be an expert fisherman. Buy it. Don't listen to Rory.
Rating: Summary: If u got 6 u dont need 7 - save your money! Review: i just got the book, well, nothing new. even the young woman's head tutorial is the same! what a shame!
Rating: Summary: Not enough detail. Review: I have all three of the Inside Lightwave Books. This one has some strong points, but it doesn't go far enough in explaining how to use Motion Designer for one. Making a cape is not my idea of clothing. What about explaining how to make an entire long sleeved outfit that has buttons and pockets. There is no mention of the replacement plugs for doing that, nor any coverage of geometry problems with actual clothing. This book is good for the intermediate, but is lacking for detail.
Rating: Summary: As to not make your ego larger Mr. Ablan... Review: Having read this book (As thick as it was) in under a week, I thought that it was a very well written technical manual which was very informative in the subject matter at hand. It was direct, clear, and presented in such a way that even if the reader has no concept of 3D designing whatsoever, they would be able to create at least a spinning logo by the time they are done. Definately the best lightwave manual to date! (Newtek, take notes.) Cant wait till Inside Lightwave 8!
Rating: Summary: More books should be like this! Review: I was skeptical of this book - most books that are released for a new version often are nothing more than a rehash of the old information with a version number change. To our benefit, Dan didn't do this with his version 6 book from 5.5, and didn't do it with the new 7 from 6. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this book covers the basics for beginners like inside lightwave 6 book did, but with better and more clear examples. What I like is that I'm not stuck doing just one type of project. I like the book LW Applied's character rig, but I feel like I paid $50 to learn how to do this one thing. With Inside LightWave 7, I'm paying less money, and learning more than I thought I could. Many of my co-workers bought their own copies of this book once they saw mine! They said that even though they liked all the tutorials in it, they especially liked the notes and tips mixed in. Sometimes these things are worth the price alone. When I'm ready for more advanced tutorials like expressions or that cool skyscraper or the ik stuff, it's in this book waiting for me. I love this book!
Rating: Summary: 1200 pages of wisdom - Worth every penny! (even with 6.5!) Review: At first glance, this book started out like 'Inside [6]' - I started to groan - However... Particles, Motion Designer, New Broadcast animation, the extras just started popping out! Then a complete list of Plugins, with descriptions! Damn, how handy, as was the appendices with colours, temperatures and refraction indexes! This book was useful, even with 6.5! The CD even has a full install of the LW[7] demo! So now I can even try out the new tools and familiarise myself while I save for the upgrade! Very cool!
Rating: Summary: Dan Ablan Comes Through Again Review: Dan Ablan's latest release from New Riders, "Inside Lightwave 7", continues his strong tradition of producing a comprehensive learning tool and reference guide for both beginner and power users alike. The first six chapters are a clear and logical introduction to basic Lightwave concepts and are required reading material for all entry level students and researchers in our lab group. Teaching Lightwave with this book is a joy. The remaining fifteen chapters are packed full of tutorial based information and techniques that are of great value to the non-beginner. Difficult topics such as inverse kinematics and expressions are presented in an intuitive manner that greatly decreases their learning curves. At this price "Inside Lightwave 7" is a steal. Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book! Review: How two other reviewers gave the book less than 5 stars is beyond me! They must be brain dead! Inside Lightwave 7 is by far, hands down, the best Lightwave book to date. Each chapter is packed with information that is presented well and is easy to follow. If I had to choose only one Lightwave book Inside Lightwave 7 would be the one!
Rating: Summary: Excellent resource Review: Before I got this book I had real trouble getting to grips with Lightwave - but together with the Lightwave manual I feel this books prepares you to tackle almost any task. Good Job!
