Summary: Great book if you can decipher the explanations
Review: I agree with the other reviewers who have said this book is poorly written. However, I have learned a lot of extremely useful tips. Copying you page setup settings to other sheets is one of my favorites. I also like the fact that this book contains no filler; it's jam-packed with smart tips on using Excel.

I would say that if you are already a pretty advanced Excel user, it's not too difficult to decipher the many poorly written explanations. If I were rating the book on its writing quality alone, I'd give it two or three stars. As for usefulness to an already advanced or intermediate user, I give it five. Just be prepared to struggle at times understanding what the authors are saying. I hope they put more care into writing their subsequent books.

Summary: A great excel resource - worth every penny
Review: I am a CPA controller of a company, and use excel every day all day long. I finally found a book that is easy to follow, but is also for advance users.

Summary: Too advanced for beginners
Review: I just thought the folks should know that I'm a beginner to Excel, and I had trouble with this book. Many pages were too hard to understand. Some were okay, but I had to skip over alot. Other Excel books were easier for me to follow. Maybe this book is only for advanced.

Summary: So easy to understand!
Review: I've read many software manuals, and found MrExcel on Excel one of the easiest to understand books out there on ANY of the Office applications. There are so few books that cover the beginner and intermediate levels of software. You're stuck with training manuals or Microsoft books, neither of which tell you how to do things the way they're really done in the the real world. Training manuals and Microsoft books don't tell you the idiosyncracies of the software, how to get around them; and they don't tell you the best feature to use for a given situation. This book does! Kudos to Bill Jelen and Joseph Rubin for making Excel so easy to understand!

Summary: Great Book - Great Resource
Review: Let me get right to the point - This is a great book! If you're serious about mastering excel get this book.

I knew it was going to be useful when straight off there was a chapter on using the keyboard rather than the mouse! Something I found more than advantageous and time saving years ago - I'm glad this view is shared and passed along. This alone will save you hours of work time.

If you crunch numbers for a living, you'll be happy to know this is the book you've been looking for! Its down to business approach is an accountant's dream!

Summary: Great book if you can decipher the explanations
Review: Of all the Excel books I consult, the most dismal in quality, accuracy, and clarity, is, without competition, Mr Excel. Time and time again I find myself frustrated with unclear, hard-to-follow text and samples due to mistakes, typos, or just plain sloppiness--on page after page. Anybody with the author's level of education and training should be ashamed to take credit for such a schlocky production and our money should be refunded at double the rate we paid for it. I am a professional analyst consultant and the Mr Excel book is a waste of my time and money.

Summary: Mr Excel on Excel
Review: Overall assessment:

"This book is absolutley jam-packed with useful tips and tricks. You will easily recoup your outlay on the book in the time savings that you will make in your first few Excel sessions after reading it."

"I've used Excel for many years and used to think that I knew pretty much all that I needed to know. I was wrong! There are so many time-saving tips in here that you will find yourself referring to it time and again - keep it near your computer."

"And its not just about working faster, its about working smarter too. We've all been in this situation I suspect - you reach a certain point in your spreadsheet design and sit there thinking 'There must be a way to do this!'. Well there probably is and its probably in this book. Typical examples include, adding a watermark to your spreadsheets, moving a minus sign from the right of a figure to the left, using the a Euro symbol."

"Bluntly, if you use Excel you NEED this book."
