Rating: Summary: Mr Excel on Excel Review: Overall assessment: "This book is absolutley jam-packed with useful tips and tricks. You will easily recoup your outlay on the book in the time savings that you will make in your first few Excel sessions after reading it." "I've used Excel for many years and used to think that I knew pretty much all that I needed to know. I was wrong! There are so many time-saving tips in here that you will find yourself referring to it time and again - keep it near your computer." "And its not just about working faster, its about working smarter too. We've all been in this situation I suspect - you reach a certain point in your spreadsheet design and sit there thinking 'There must be a way to do this!'. Well there probably is and its probably in this book. Typical examples include, adding a watermark to your spreadsheets, moving a minus sign from the right of a figure to the left, using the a Euro symbol." "Bluntly, if you use Excel you NEED this book."
Rating: Summary: Very poorly written Review: Poorly organized, not clear, and quite confusing at times. Don't waste your time and money on a book that you'll surely return.
There are other great choices here!
Rating: Summary: I don't know how I lived without this book! Review: Seriously. This book is everything I was hoping for, and more. No fluff, no cutesy cartoon characters, no introductory level for beginners. Just straight facts, with examples and illustrations, that can save TONS of time and frustration for any intermediate or advanced Excel user.If you want to increase your productivity, or just save yourself from the agony of KNOWING something can be done, but not being able to figure out how, then this book is for you!!
Rating: Summary: Poorly orgainzed Review: The authoer seemed to have written the book baed on what he knows, but not based on the user-friendly level. I found this book very hard to follow and there is a lot of example I was trying to follow, I just couldn't find the options on my computer.
Rating: Summary: Too scattered, too [costly]! Review: This book jumps around a little too much to follow it easily. I may have found a good tip here and there, but I would expect many more with such a hefty price tag!
Rating: Summary: Better reference guide than tutorial Review: This book, errors and all, can be used very effectively as a reference guide and for problem solving on occasion. As a tutorial this book suffers from poor organization and scenario development. The overall impression is that you are never quite sure of what you are doing - or why - until you have finished.
Look at this book for tips and tricks - learn Excel somewhere else.
Rating: Summary: Full Of Errors! Review: This books, albeit in the beginning was straightforward, gets loaded with errors when you begin to learn combo boxes in Ch. 23. The exercises from the website and the directions from the chapter do not match up and it gets difficult to decipher when developing validation lists and reports. NEEDS SERIOUS REWORK AND ALONG WITH A FRICKEN REFUND!!
Rating: Summary: Makes you go Aaaah, That's How to do That Review: This is one of those books that every so often makes you mumble "Aaaah, that's how to do that." Not intended for the beginner, this is a book that presumes you know Excel, perhaps you even work with it every day.
I glanced at the book, then looked in the index for Pivot Table. There was a whole chapter. And this is an area most Excel books either ignore or gloss over lightly. And if you really want a thrill, go look at the Microsoft documentation on them. In about 40 pages, this chapter answered everything I needed to know to get over the emergency of the moment. I guess I gave out with the appropriate Aaaah's. I was really left with just one question. Why do they call them Pivot Tables, what a meaningless name.
After this, I sat down to read the book. I found that I skimmed over a lot. Some of it I knew, some of it I didn't care about, some of it I filed away to remember when I needed to do something different. If you're serious about doing Excel, this is a book you need to have.
Rating: Summary: Mr Excel on Excel Exceeds My Wildest Expectations!!! Review: This is the most unbelievable software book I've ever read! I started highlighting helpful ideas, but almost immediately gave up that effort because I'd have to highlight every line! No matter what your level of Excel expertise, this book will boggle your mind. I have a library full of Excel books, but NEVER have I seen even a fraction of these tips and tricks. How Bill and Joseph discovered these shortcuts, I'll never know. But thank goodness they had the foresight and generosity to share them with the rest of us!!! This is a MUST READ BOOK.
