Rating: Summary: Macromedia Flash MX ActionScripting: Advanced Training from Review: I found this book to be extremely helpful in "putting everything together". "Advanced users" may criticize the comprehensiveness and explict explanations as they already know this material. Maybe they are at the stage where they should be writing advanced user books! Personally, I found the books format perfect for teaching myself Action Script. I would highly recommend having this book as part of your Flash library. There are no advanced Action Script schools in this province, so for me, good reference books are critical. Good work Derek and Jobe!
Rating: Summary: ...took my breath away...when do these people get to sleep? Review: okay everyone, listen up. i am going to make my review of this title very brief. if you are really--and, i mean really, really--interested in learning hardcore actionscript, then, your money stops here with this book. i have read over fifteen books about flash and actionscript. this book leaves all of those books in the dust, i am afraid. the lessons alone are just brilliant; to the point; and, worth the price of the book alone. this book is not for the faint hearted. if you want to get your hands dirty--again, i mean really dirty--this book will show you how to get dirty and deep into actionscript in no time flat. you simply have to be very serious about actionscript. if you are not, then buy something else--you will be better served elsewhere. these folks know their stuff--i only wished that my brain worked like their's. if i were to recommend only one book about actionscript, this title would be it. i just cannot put this book down... i think it comes with an invisible glue that makes the book get stuck to your hands. well, there you have it. i shall give this book 10 stars out of 5!
Rating: Summary: Advanced Training NOT Advanced ActionScripting Review: I haven't really got into this book yet but I will say theres lots of reading to do, not many pics. What I really want to say is that this book is Advanced Training NOT Advanced ActionScripting. Some reviewers were disappointed that there wasnt advanced stuff in the book,,,Its called advanced training, silly people.
Rating: Summary: Really helpful step by step approach Review: I have used many Flash training books but this is the best. My hat off to the authors. Examples work, are useful and very easy to do, even for a designer like me who is code-phobic! And you can see quick results.
Rating: Summary: Great for the intermediate programmer Review: I consider myself knowledgable in Flash and an intermediate programmer. This book was right on for me. The tutorials are thorough, well constructed and easy to follow. Everytime I had a question about one of the features being explored in a tutorial, it was answered on the next page. This book is not an introduction to Flash, and it doesn't claim to be. It is great for people with a solid base in using Flash and a little programming experience who are looking to learn action scripting.

Rating: Summary: A must have for any Actionscript Programmer! Review: I have been programming Actionscript for many years and it is always great to find a very helpful flash Actionscript book. This book is just that, it is packed with many methodologies and techniques that I was able to use for my day job. I have become a stronger Actionscript programmer because of it. I strongly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Flash MX for newbies? Review: Just finished the book. The book covers a lot of ground. Coming from a Computer Science background I found the book great. The current code syntax is very much like c++/java. One topic that could use a little more polish is pointers. The book talks about the "this" pointer a lot, but never really tells you it is a pointer. Hmh. This is ok for a guy who deals with pointers all the time, however, for someone who is not a programmer, then there should be a reference for he/she to go to. This book is not for beginners.
Rating: Summary: Best of the Best Review: I am an Open Source programmer who uses PHP, MySQL and PostgreSQL on a daily basis. I bought this book in hopes of capitalizing on the benefits of Flash. The book is clear and provides you with the source code to kick off your project. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Adv Flash AS'er or not . . . Get this book! Review: Being an intermediate-to-advanced Flash Action Scriptor I figured this book would at least supply a few tid-bits, but let me assure you it covers almost every scenario I could imagine using Flash AS with! Derek & Jobe seem to go the extra mile in providing an Extrememly User-Freindly book, complete with excellent tutorials and they even review almost, if not all of the code with thorough explanations! I would definitely classify the book as Intermediate to Advanced AS'ng and click the "Buy Now" link :)
