Summary: Not very complete
Review: Although this was a nice light review, it really had little resemblence to the test. I thought I was golden having only missed two questions in the entire book and only three on the included practice tests. This was a costly false impression. I'd sure like to at least recoup the cost of this trifling uselessness.

Summary: A supplemental review book only
Review: As many of the other reviewers have noted, this book does not contain all of the information you will need to pass the test. For tests like this, as many others have said, you need to use multiple sources. I used this book exclusively to study from, and although I was very familiar with all the information in it and scored 90% and 100% on the tests that are included on the CD, I was not prepared for the Security+ exam and failed. This book lacks many specific details that you will find on the exam, and does not even discuss some topics, or glosses over them. Find a more comprehensive source to study from (unfortunately I can't recommend one yet), and use this only as a supplement for review if you have it. I haven't written very many book reviews, but wanted to offer my opinion on this one to save someone the cost of the exam and the disappointment of failing it.

Summary: Book is OK, CD is OK...
Review: Content is brief and makes the exam sound easy. Practice exams are OK, but don't fall prey to the "online upgrade"... its BS, the extra $20 only gives you online access to the same questions that are on the CD... I did pass the test with a 860/900 so the book won't hurt, but I'd get some other ones as well...

A good bet for more practice questions would be ExamCram2's "Security+ Practice Questions". It is less than $20 and gives you the MeasureUp practice test CD that is $89 on their website...

Summary: Warning! Grossly inadequate study guide.
Review: Don't believe the glowing reviews. My thoughts are those were just the publisher or auther secretly promoting the book. The truth is this book grossly fails to cover the test objectives completely. I knew right from the start of the exam I was in trouble as the first two questions were nothing like what was covered in the book. Kerberos, Cryptography, Tunneling, and IPSec are just some of the areas this book fails to cover in enough detail. For example, something as simple as the port numbers for PPTP and L2TP weren't even mentioned in the book. Like another review, this book covered about 1/3 my test. I was able to answer another 1/3 of the test due to my 7 years of experience in the field, but even then I only scored 700 on the exam.

This book is more of an intro to network security principles than an actual study guide for the Sec+ exam. Buyer beware!

Summary: Excellent for the exam
Review: For a smaller book, this one really packed a punch. It definitely helped me pass the exam. I have other books by Trevor Kay and I find them to be the same in the sense that he doesn't waste any time with non-exam related material. He likes to get to the point!

If your interested in just passing this exam and don't want to spend [the money]on a study guide. This book will definitely be the one to use... it's well worth it.

Summary: Not Even Close!!!
Review: I am a 12-year computer networking professional with multiple MCP and CNE certifications. I have worked with Windows NT, 2000, and NetWare server security for years, and decided to take the Security+ exam. I spent two months studying from this book. Unfortunately, the book does not go into enough depth on ANY topic. I further used one of the premiere certification practice exams and, as a result, had to do a lot of research and studying beyond the scope of this book. I failed the Security+ exam miserably - this book is a very poor preparation for the Security+ exam and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. As a matter of fact, I told a colleague of mine, who is also studying for the Security+ test, to dump the book and find a different one. More than 70% of the questions on the Security+ exam were NOT covered at all or were covered very, very insufficiently by this book. This book is a tremendous disappointment. I have taken more than a dozen certification exams in the past 8 years and have never been as ill-prepared as I was for this test due to the lack of substance and depth provided in this text.

Summary: Not Deep Enough
Review: I bought this one based on the pretty solid reviews, worked through it diligently and was rewarded by finding a full 35%-40% of the questions on my test were either glossed over by the book in a few lines (not nearly enough information to answer the question) or not mentioned at all. I would guess that some of the previous good reviews might be the result of a lucky draw on the exam bank, but my test exposed some serious shortcomings to this book.

To be properly prepared, you'll need more than just this book.

Summary: Great Resource
Review: I found this book to be a great resource for the Security+ exam.
If you have the recommended two years of experience before taking this exam then I'd say this book will be all you need.

If your a newbi and don't have any experience you should use this Passport book with one of the more larger books such as the Security+ All-In-one study guide.

Summary: Excellent Crammer
Review: I found this book to be an excellent resource for the Comptia Security+ exam. Each objective is covered fully throughout each chapter. The post chapter sample questions and exam tips I found to be a big help. I am now Security+ certified. I recommend this book as part of your Security+ training material.

Summary: super just before the exam
Review: I found this book to be very useful as a last minute crammer right before the exam. Each chapter is straight to the point and easy to read. I highly recommend this book above all the other same style crammer books out there. Good job!
