Summary: Something is missing?
Review: Gosh - this book would've been perfect but it came with no databases??? Good sample scripts! Wonderful! Would've been extra nice to also add a small section for access DB users.

Summary: All major concepts in one place, with examples - GREAT!
Review: The author obviously teaches - his insight into the questions that occurred to me as the concepts were presented is outstanding - like he was anticipating. I find the book to have many good code examples, solid dicussion of those examples - and now I'm really actually doing "Instant" ASP - thanks!

Summary: A practical, straight-forward approach to a complex subject
Review: I was looking for help in developing Window server based websites and this book did just that. I recommend it to any web developer looking to make data-driven websites on Windows servers.

Summary: I finally get it
Review: I finally get what the big deal is with ASP. I've heard the hype but now I am ready to put it to use thanks to this book.

Summary: Wow, Instant is right
Review: The company I work for has been wanting to set somthing up so employees can take classes through our Intranet. I used the site on the CD and the SQL to get it going with little effort on my end.

The book really making me think about all the things I can do with ASP.

Summary: Much more than just scripts
Review:

Hello and thanks for taking a look at my book.

As a Microsoft Certified Instructor, I have found that my students learn more seeing how things are done than by seeing a list of all the methods, properties and events of an object. That is what I try to do with this book. For the new ASP Programmer, the book provides a way to learn by seeing exactly in great detail how the tools work. I show the page screen shots, any unusual HTML, the database component and all ASP code is reviewed.

The new Programmer can also take the code that is included on the CD and get a solution up fast.

For the experienced ASP Programmer, the book provides a wide array of applications for ASP. What I have found with students and colleagues that are familiar with ASP is that they sometimes don't see the full potential of the language. The examples in the book help to show the experienced Programmer the wide array of applications possible with ASP.

I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did writing it. I love ASP and programming and I hope that I share my enthusiasm with you.

Summary: Good Ideas but falls short of delivering
Review: This book has hundereds of great ideas, and the scripts are provided on the CD-ROM, but there is only one thing missing: the databases! Granted, they do tell you how to make the databases you need, but the word "instant" in the title is deceiving.

Summary: Code buggy, Not for beginners
Review: I fought with one of the examples (ads) until I could get it to work. For production databases ADO with a DSN is not the way to go. I tried using ADO with a connection string. Some of the SQL statements fail this way (wouldn't INSERT a record because one of the fields was called "password"). Also it flat out refused to recognize some files as HREF (i.e.-ad.asp) until I renamed them. What's that all about?

Is this code checked before it's put in a book? An absolute beginner might go nutty trying to get this code to work. Like the idea of this book but not it's polish. Maybe less examples, populated data, and more quality examples would be a better approach. How much does the core functionality change from application to application anyways?

I'm cranky from fighting this most of the day so that's the one star reason.

Summary: This book is great for beginners
Review: I am new to ASP and this book is great help for a beginner. It has plenty of useful codes that can be implemented into your pages. Just copy and paste and change the fields and tables to fit your needs. It was a great purchase and I would recommend it to any beginner!

Summary: Useful
Review: The worst thing about this book is I lost my copy by loaning it out. It has a lot of useful scripts but a professional would want to improve them. It is good they are stripped down examples so you can build on them, but you would probably want to improve them for security and such. I would say you could find code useful for many projects. Just take a look at the contents and see if it meets your needs.
