Summary: CCDA:Cisco Certiified Design Associate Study Guide
Review: Disappointed in the book. I used Todd Lammie' book on CCNA and found it to be extremly helpful. The one feature that is missing that helped so much in the other book is that the book itself is not on the CD. When taking the test, a link to the appropriate chapter was extremely helpful Also the ability to read the book on the computer where the font can be enlarged and reading made easier would have increased my rating of it.

Summary: A good book that does not cover everything.
Review: This book is very good for beginners that need the basics. However if you plan on taking the test from this book, think again. The book only covers in detail about half of what is on the test. The rest of what is on the test this book just skims over. Use the CCO in addition to the book or get a different book.

Summary: A truly useful book
Review: The Cisco CCDA test is widely regarded as one of the more difficult certification tests around, even when compared to the other Cisco test. I can verify that, and would go on to add that if you are looking for a book to read just prior to taking the test, this is the one that I recommend. You should still read the Cisco Designing Cisco Networks edited by Diane Teare, as well as the Cisco CCDA Exam Guide book by Anthony Bruno et al, and the Top Down Network Design book by Priscilla Oppenheimer first, but save this one for last and you won't go wrong.

Summary: Thank God for this book
Review: I read this book twice before taking the CCDA exam and passed the exam. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who plans on taking the exam in the near future.

Summary: Too much focus on CCNA!!
Review: I recently took the CCDA exam after taking the CCNA exam. I used Lammle's book as well as the Cisco Press book. Both books had their faults, but at least the Cisco Press book spent more time with design issues. Lammle's book was just like his CCNA book! Half of the issues Lammle focused on were HUGE concepts to know in order to get the CCNA, but not asked in the CCDA at all.

I would recommend this book ONLY if you have another book as a supplement - the Cisco Press book fills in the gaps very well!

Summary: I am a CCDA thanks to this book.
Review: This was a hard exam. I am now a CCNA, CCDA and CCNP thanks to all the Sybex books and Virtual Lab too. This book will prepare you, but you have to study as this is a hard exam. Study the case studies at the end of chapter 4 as they are exactly what I received on the exam.

Summary: Beware this exam
Review: I passed this exam by using the Designing Cisco Networks book by Cisco. This book though intensive was a very good study guide an prepared me very well for the exam but it is not easy to just pick up and read. I have read the Lammle book and do not feel that it adequately prepares you for all facets of this exam. If you have a good understanding of design then this test will be a little easier than it will be for most. I would not recommend that you read Lammle's study guide alone. His text builds on the fact that you have previous knowledge covered in the CCNA study guide which may or may not be true. I passed this exam with a 903/1000. I have some previous design experience and I will be the first to tell you that this test is not easy....

Summary: Just Enough to Pass
Review: I passed my CCDA exam on 10-11-2000 using only the Sybex study guide and with no networking experience other than the Sybex CCNA sudy guide and the CCNA exam I passed.

I scored 100% on 6 of the 10 sections of the 640-441 and passed with a 815. I studied and knew that study guide very well and thought there were several points that the book didn't address but the thourough knowledge of the other subject areas gave me enough points to pass. This was a very difficult exam for me, especially having no hands-on knowledge of networking. This book alone should be more than adequate to pass this exam for anyone with a reasonable knowledge of Networking.

Good luck everyone!

Summary: Fair Book
Review: Numerous chapters are cut and paste from CCNA title by same author/publisher. Does have some information needed for test, but you should either have real world experience or supplement study aid.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not bad, but could be better
Review: In general I like this line of certification books because they write the books in a tutorial style. The sybex books could easily be kept for reference books after the test - making them a good value. However, the promise of these books is to help you pass the exam and this one seemed to come up short in a few areas. If you are experienced in networking, this book is a great review/introduction to network design from the CCDA point of view. If not, you may want to use this book in conjunction with another study guide.
