Summary: do not waste your money
Review: i consider this book to be a waste . i bought this book and i compare it with top-down network design , and the dcn from cisco . Both by far superior texts ,if you want to take the test buy these two books and use cisco site .

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not a good prep for the actual eaxm......
Review: Compared to the authors CCNA book, this one was not close to the materials on the actual exam. The review questions were horrible.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Decent, mixed feelings
Review: All in all a good book for CCDA preparation. I found it got a bit TOO technical given the scope of the actual exam which I just passed. Needs some refinement, but if you have attended DCN it's worth the money as a refresher. I am doubtful that I would have passed with this book alone however.

Summary: You get out of it what you put into it!
Review: I first was exposed to Todd Lammle with the CCNA: Cisco Certified Network Associate Study Guide, a most excellent study resource. With the CCDA Study Guide, Todd Lammle, et al are at it again, with a fantastic resource for anyone needing to firm up their understanding of Cisco's view of Enterprise Network Design. The book makes no bones about its stregths, and weakness. You MUST study the material, learn the material presented, and build on it.

Unlike the CCNA, which can take someone with a basic knowledge of PCs, Lans, and internetworking, and enable them to pass the CCNA without too much extra effort, the CCDA study guide is designed to be one of many books on your shelf to prepare you for the test.

I happened to pass the CCDA Beta Exam in December 1998, but didn't know it until after I became a CCNA. Now with my organization, I am in a position to oversee the development of several of my peers. The CCDA is required reading for my team, and they not only have to pass the CCDA test, but internal expertise exams, and this book will assist them with that.

Overall, a great 5-Star book for the quality of the material you receive, and the quality of the presentation. This isn't CCDA for Dummies, but then again, if it were that easy, there would be no value to the certification, right?

Bottom line, buy the book, read the book, go back and study the book, take the test, pass the test, get the raise, then pass the book along. Any Cisco professionals in the Sacramento, CA area, or looking to relocate, drop me an email, ranchorich@yahoo.com.

Summary: Good study material, but needs refinement.
Review: I used this book as my the only source of material for preparation for my CCDA (passed with score of 936), besides my real-life experience. It gives nice basic insight into network design issues. As somebody else said here, network design is not an exact science. This books gives you enough of the reading to be able to handle sometimes moronic questions of the 640-441. Word of warning: again, it's got some nice misprints, both in the book and on the test-yourself CD.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Buy the Book pass the test
Review: Its that simple. Lays every thing out for you. The only subject it didn't cover well was SNA and Token Ring info was light. The CD is a great study tool.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good as a general overview but requires supplementary study
Review: This exam was challenging. However, if you had previously prepared well for your CCNA, have some hands on experience, supplement your study of this book with the Cisco on-line training materials and study this guide cover to cover then you will stand a good chance of passing the exam.

Summary: Mediocare study guide
Review: While this book does cover the material topics for the CCDA exam, it does so in a very poor manner. Many items are stated then built on without sufficient explanation. The book contains many mistakes, including on items that should be memorize (e.g. private IP address spaces) and in the answers to many practice questions. In addition, almost all of the practice questions do not have any explanation, even when the answer is not obvious. All in all, I have seen much better study guides.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good basis, but needs supplementing
Review: This is a a good outline for CCDA studies, and as such covers most of the topics you can expect on the exam. Case studies are the focus of CCDA, and the book's examples of these are useful.

Content is a bit weak in some areas, specifically ISDN, SNMP and LANE. Also, the review questions on the CD are not representative of those on the exam.

Overall a worthwhile buy, if you supplement with CCNA-level experience and the Cisco web site.

Summary: Good Resources
Review: If you want to pass the exam, you should buy this book. The book contains all the materials in the objectives. The Case Study and Review Questions are also good. They can fit the live exam. The content is also organized in a good way. First, the network basic knowledge, then pre-design procedure, designing procedure, post-design procedure. Especially on the topic of network management, routing protocols, the author does a good job. However, I would recommend reader should study CCNA first before CCDA, and also you may need to read some documentation about the routers series and switches series to choose a right one in the exam.
