Rating: Summary: Be warned, not that easy. Review: CCDA exam must be tougher than CCNA. It covers more area of networking. Studying with this book only won't lead you to the promised land. Althou this book is easy to read, it doesn't cover technical details you really need. Even if you passed the exam only with this book, better study with DCN course text or CCDA exam cert guide. Or you'll be in a big trouble in the real network world. Being lucky in exam does't mean being lucky in job.
Rating: Summary: Helpfull but not the Holy Grail Review: I used Lammle's CCNA book to help prep for the CCNA certification and was not disappointed. Unfortunately this CCDA book did not measure up (as far as the 640-441 exam). Despite my cirticism I will say I would not have passed without it. If you're just buying this book to pass a test, go elsewhere, it only covered 20-30% of the exam material (or at least the test version I had). It did contain a wealth of information that is useful on a daily basis especially if you need a good review of the basic concepts. The Sybex/Lammle format is easy to follow and there was not too much superfluous information to get lost in. A good review of technologies you may not work with on daily basis. Usually it is these items that trip you up on the exams. While I would buy Lammle again I've decided to give Newcomb's CIT book a try for both continuing to build my knowledge and moving up the CCNP ladder.
Rating: Summary: Easy Reading book for 50% coverage on the exam Review: This book is only good for 50% coverage on the exam. I thought it was as good as the CCNA one but I guess I was wrong. Although I did pass the CCDA exam with this book but most of the answer came from prior knowledge and other books that I've read for my CCNP. Don't count on it if you are new to the Cisco products.
Rating: Summary: This book is not enough to pass the exam Review: This book contains much of the material to help pass the CCDA 640-441 exam, but it is not enough. It doesn't go into depth enough about characterizing a customer's network, ATM, or X.25. Also, the routers and switches discussed in the book are out of date. The exam is starting to ask questions about Cisco's new routers and switches. This is still an excellent book and I recommend it, but I would compliment it with the material. Their material covers all the updated material in the exam, everything in this book, and then some.
Rating: Summary: I passed with only this book ! Review: I am changing careers and brand new to the computer/network field (my previous job was as a bookkeeper for an accounting firm). A friend sugested that I study and get certified as a CCDA in order to break into the field. All I can say is that I DID IT ! I passed (score 850) only using this book and no prior experience. If you want to pass the exam, I highly recommend this book. The book contains all the materials that you will be tested on in the real exam. Overall, it is organized well and easy to read.It taught me the basics of networks, and how to design networks. It covered network management and routing protocols, but needed more about Token Ring and SNA. I'm now studying for the CCNA using Todd Lammele's book and will take my exam next week!
Rating: Summary: Not happy this time... Review: I used this book to study for the CCDA, I have a lot of respect for Todd Lammle but this book lacked some vital information for the exam in my view. It lacked detailed info on appletalk and x.21. The layout of the book is good and I have been buying these sybex books right through my MCSE but I will be buying the Cisco press books for the rest of my Cisco studies.
Rating: Summary: IT's not easy to pass CCDA exam with this study guide! Review: I just passed the CCDA exam today. However, I found that this study guide is not enough to pass the exam. The case studies in this book are only for high school students, not for cisco professionals who want to know more netwok design...hard to pass the CCDA exam with this book!
Rating: Summary: Cut and Paste Review: Much of this book is clearly a cut and paste job from the same author's CCNA study guide. Sometimes that is good because a lot of the material is similar. Other times it is really irritating when the author refers to something from chapter 5, but it is chapter 5 of the CCNA book. There were a number of errors in the questions where the provided answers were wrong, or at least they seemed wrong. I used this book primarily and some sources from the web to get a 931 and pass the CCDA exam, but I was very disappointed with the quality of this book
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book... Review: I have just finished reading this book cover-to-cover and would highly recommend it to anyone who is serious about fully understanding the material needed to pass the CCDA exam. The authors do an excellent job of building on top of the CCNA publication, which provided and excellent foundation. (I also used that book to to pass the CCNA exam.) The book flows well and is written in a straight forward fashion. (No fluff, just the facts.) Plus, the objectives set forth by Cisco are covered thoroughly. (Which gave me great confidence walking into the CCDA exam.) The only caveat is to ensure that you are a CCNA or have equivilant experience before purchasing this book. This book is not intended for a pure beginner.
Rating: Summary: Todd Lammle has done it again! Review: From the beginning of my quest for certifications I was determined to obtain a Cisco Certification, either CCNA or CCDA, I am still in the quest but now studying for the CCDA exam has become easier and once again Todd Lammle is responsible for this. After reading Todd's book on CCNA, my interest in CCDA became even stronger. Lammle takes the complexity out of the CCDA picture and replaces it with detailed easy to follow and understand information about the exam objectives. Lammle knowledge of the subject matter makes him one of the most respected names in the industry. This books covers areas like the OSI Model, TCP/IP, topology design, security, load balancing and most importantly Cisco LAN and WAN Hardware. There is also a cd-rom with over 250 question to hone your skills before taking the live test. The questions in the book and on the cd are what make this book standout; giving you a great opportunity, don't pass it up. For under $50.00 Todd Lammle's book makes passing the exam easier.
