Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good but not excellent
Review: This is a good reference book on Flash and is also easy to read and absorb. Although huge in size, the chapters are well organized and the content is ordered in a way that makes sense for learning. And I did learn a lot from reading it.

I can't give it more than 3 stars, however, because of the many mistakes. It's a true obstacle to learning when you can't tell if it's your mistake or the author's. And for me, there was an equal mix of both! Also, unless you have at least a little experience with scripting languages (VBScript or javascript etc.), chapter 19 is likely to stop you dead in your tracks.

Overall, I recommend the book but do so with reservations.

Summary: It's got breadth and depth
Review: Just like the quote says on the cover. These authors provide an unbelievable amount of both breadth and depth with regard to the Flash 5 authoring experience. It's an excellent reference, but there are also tons of tutorial projects with practical applications. It would cost several hundred dollars to go to a week long seminar just to learn the basics about Flash 5 development. This book is a bargain...!

Summary: An infernal read
Review: Like the original bible 2K years ago, this book seems like the way, but strays from reality with abandonment. The book lacks screen guides, is overflowing with mistakes and for a beginner makes the transition to Flash design all the more difficult. The examples are not easy to follow and do not correspond with the actual version of Flash 5. I was a programmer for 10 years yet I found the Flash in a Flash chapter confusing and without adequate reference. It was a a miracle I got through the excercise at all but I wanted to check on the CD-ROM to see what mistakes I had made. Lo and behold, the tutorial example is not there! Why would the beginning example not be available? It's the most crucial for novices. The web site doesn't provide it either. If you want to wander in the darkness then buy this book. If you want to learn Flash, look elseweher for a guru. Sadly this book has all the sins from a one and only draft.

Summary: **DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK**
Review: While there are some useful sections in this book for ++beginners++, if you are looking to use this as a serious resource for mastering ActionScript and other professional-level features of Flash 5, DO NOT buy this book.

IT IS FULL OF MISTAKES!!!

The author has even setup a Web site to address these mistakes but it seems he hasn't discovered all of them yet. I spent almost [price] for this book, because I live outside the U.S. I really needed it to be accurate because I use Flash for work purposes. So save yourself the trouble and look for something accurate.

Summary: Good reference.
Review: Not a lot of fluff, but very good reference. You may want to start with a beginners book before you move to this one, but this one is a must-have.

Summary: WOW - Get this if you want flash5 on your resume!
Review: I started out completely ignorant of flash and then a friend told me to check this book out.I bought this book 2 weeks ago and I've never been this satisfied with a purchase. I'm now in the processes of learning basic action scripts and techniques to do various things. The book is compressive to the extent that a beginner can get to the next level with ease. This book is for beginner so if you have read some other bignner books I cant recoment this book. Get this book and never look back :D I'm hungry for more action script stuff so onto the next flash book.

Summary: Step Aside Professor, This Book Is Better !
Review: I am in college taking Flash 5. The professor teaches at an advanced level although there are newbies like me. I completed the semester having learned enough to be familiar with Flash 5, but not enough to do anything advanced because I couldn't keep up with the fast pace.

After sitting in a bookstore with my laptop and going through the tutorials in many books for beginners (the only way to really know what to buy), I decided on Flash 5 Bible.

Other books were cute and colorful, but too simple, lacked details and advanced features. The Flash 5 Bible lacks pretty, pictures, but who cares? This isn't kindergarten! Instead, you pay for a book that replaces the dog as man's best friend.

The preface details how different parts of the book cater to people at various levels. I started at Flash In A Flash. I feel as though someone is taking me by the hand and leading me through the steps, explaining the how, where, when and why of every step in simple, plain detail.

After completing this book, I will have learned more than I ever learned in a class that I paid $700 per college credit for.

Summary: If you could only own one!
Review: I've purchased many many flash bugs in the last year or so, basically to absorb all I could about what could be done with this technology. I have found this to be the best of all my books overall because it covers about everything you would want to know that flash can do, very good Actionscript examples and excellent tutorials from some of the leaders in the Flash world -Colin and Gareth. It takes you well beyond just the basics!!

Summary: Flash 5 Bible
Review: The ULTIMATE book and study guide for Flash 5 users. This book covers every angle. At [...] the official web-site for the book, you can download the latest updates, and find links to other web-sites. I would recommend this book for beginners and experts alike.
