Summary: The Good Book
Review: Hey now... I am a UI designer by trade, having designed applications such as Poser3 and 4, KPT Vector Effects, and codesigning KPT Bryce with Kai Krause over the years. I have been somewhat caught by surprise by the frenzy around vector graphics for the web, and Flash in particular. It was actually a bit reassuring to see the chapters about Bryce and Poser and how they can integrate with Flash. In truth, Flash is not at all about vectors alone. Some of the most interesting work being done with Flash now uses video content too... if the book had omitted that, it would have been a conspicuous omission to be sure.

That being said, I do share one reviewer's opinion that more ActionScripting info would have added real value. However it is likely true that this is a subject really warranting its own volume; one which, when published, I will purchase immediately.

Thanks to the authors if this fine book; and to the participants in this fine forum.

Summary: Poorly written
Review: Unfortunately the writers of this book have very low skills in explaining ideas. Also the projects in their tutorials are way to child like, e.g., " Qwen's eyes shut when she yawns" as an expert tutorial, very silly. I hoped for a much more sophisticated Flash Bible. This and how poorly written the Dreamweaver Bible is my once rock solid faith in IDG books is starting to crumble. Who's choosing these authors and why?

Summary: Whaaazzzup!
Review: This book rocks. So does the CD-ROM that goes with it. My response to the poor reviews listed above ... hello ... are you a web developer or what? If you were you'd know that developing for the web requires the use of several different applications. If you're looking for some hand holding then go back to your wysiwyg editor!

Summary: Graphics Instructor Says: "Flash Bible is a MUST HAVE"!
Review: Thank you Flash 4 Bible Authors! As a long time user and teacher of graphic communication programs I rate this book as a "MUST HAVE". Not since the era of Gutenberg has this civilization faced the challenges and opportunities inherent in such a quantum leap in the field of communications as we now 'enjoy' via the web. The 'average' or so-called 'common person' now has the vehicle through which to communicate planet-wide. This is raw POWER. A power that in the past was (and still is) coveted by the wealthy power brokers. To take advantage of this power, whether you are selling trinkets or saving the rain forests, you need to know how to use the tools. Books like the Bible are invaluable in your initial and on going learning processes.

I teach my students to supplement the program's documentation (both on and off line) with books like the Flash 4 Bible, the Visual QuickStart Guide, Flash 4 Magic and others to come. If you want to learn how to use the power of Flash use these books as complementary (not competing) reference tools. When it's 3 am and your presentation is due at 7:30 am, and you absolutely must make your program do what you want and the program's docs just don't provide clear answers, you'll be thankful that you have all the help you can get because at that hour of the morning... don't call me.

Summary: Poor excuse for a "Bible" publication
Review: I have come to expect a certain level of professionalism from the 'Bible' series from IDG Books. However, this latest attempt falls far short, and I will more carefully consider my purchases from here forward. I received the book a few days ago, and have determined that it was written in no more than three weeks. The majority of content is straight from the Flash Users Guide - most of it covering interface and tool descriptions. There is little in the way of in-depth discussions that relate to real-world applications or the finer points of architecture and workflow that should be considered when undertaking a serious project with Flash. I wouldn't recommend this purchase to anybody who already has the Flash users manual and an internet connection - more can be learned online in two hours than by reading this entire book.

Summary: Calling this book a Bible is blasphemy
Review: I should have looked it over at Borders first before ordering it on the advice of the first reviews. 200 of it's 600 pages are devoted to using Flash with other applications - some good that is if you don't own them - yet only 22 pages to cover ActionScript, the thing that makes Flash so, uh...flashy. A big disappointment. I've learned more on my own than I did from this book.

Pass this one by!

Summary: Flash Bible is too much off topic.
Review: I was very disappointed that the ultimate bible contained too much descriptions using flash with programs NOT supporting vector format like Adobe After Effects and much more others. It didnt explain in depth working with actions. I wouldnt even advise it as a beginners guide.

Summary: Not worth the money
Review: I agree with the reviews giving this book 1 - 2 stars. This book was very dissatisfactory compared to other books in the Bible series. I ordered this book along with the flash software. I found that going through the tutorials in Flash and using the online help was much more useful. Also, there are many websites that offer information on Flash. I'm going to be ordering Flash 4 magic to learn more of the advanced techniques.

Summary: The ULTIMATE REFERENCE to Flash 4
Review: I bought this book and must say I am impressed with the depth of it. I find it much more intuitive than the manual which comes with Flash4. There are not ton's of "neato" examples but Bibles aren't supposed to have them, what you get is straight forward clear and concise explanations of every one of the numerous Flash tools and actions. Jon and Robert have a winner in this book! For the "neato" tutorial check out Flash Magic by D.J. Emberton and J.S. Hamlin, but for a complete reference to the power of Flash4 this is the ONLY book to have!

Summary: a good flash intro
Review: this book is good for someone new to flash, it covers everything to a certain level, i was expecting something a bit more in depth especially for a bible book, they do need to add about 600 more pages to this to bring it up to bible par, dont dismiss it though, if your new this book is perfect for you, i made the mistake of playing with flash alot before i bought this book, im gonna order flash magic, i think that one is more for the experienced users
