Summary: find another text book
Review: Do not waste your time using this book. Move on and find a better written text. There were areas on the exam that the book did not cover. Chapter five (TCP/IP Suite Utilities) was the most helpful chapter in the book. The test engine gears your studying in diffrent areas then what are actually on the exam.

Summary: Good, but not complete
Review: Explanations are good, but not complete. All NOS information is on Windows NT. NetWare and UNIX are a part of the exam as well. Looks like the authors only knew NT. Buy this book if you want to know only NT.

Summary: Pity about the content.....
Review: First the positive..... It was the one of the first Network+ books published - that's why I bought it. It's got some nice pictures in the back, quite illuminating if you're a "paper" student like me. It attempts to expand on the certification objectives published on the Comptia site. It's nicely laid out, has a few practice tests after each chapter, and is easy to read....

Pity about the content..... Part 1 of the book is passable - just - if you've already read Microsofts Networking Essentials. It did add some necessary information in the area of TCP/IP fundamentals and associated suite utilities. It however lacked Heaps of the basic networking fundamentals that are covered in the Microsoft Text.

Part 2 is a waste of time - it's full of waffle, repetition, and common sense stuff. Almost as though the authors realised they were running out of time before the deadline, so just threw something together....anything!

The accompanying CD rom is terrible. The test engine utilises your web browser to present the practice tests. It's clumsy, annoying and isn't easily customisable. I got so hacked off with it - I stopped using it. Questions are very NT centric, and are definitely not representative of those I faced on the actual exam.

If you've already done networking essentials - buy a book on TCP/IP. If you haven't - buy something else......anything else. (Try Mike Myers Network+ Certification exam guide - Without even reading it I'd bet my Grandmother that his book is streets ahead of this one).

Summary: A knowledgeable book for anyone new to networking.
Review: I am A+ certified (have been for over two years)and I have purchased, read and passed the exam with this book and I don't understand why this book is getting bad reviews. I will say it is a really good book but not perfect. A lot of the information on the NOSes were very NT based, there were some errors and few of the questions I had could not be answered by this book. I seeked the help of other network technicians like any real technician would rather than sit on my *** and wait for one book to answer ALL of my questions. It's been over a month since I earned the Network+ Certification and I still read the book to this day, ask my networking friends numerous questions. In case most of you have forgotten, the capacity for learning in the I.T. industry is unlimited and there is a MAJOR difference between textbook learning and real world learning and that I know all too well in the first person. Last but not least, if there is something you don't know.. ASK!!!

Summary: Excellent!!!
Review: I can't say enough good stuff about this book. It's clear, concise, and extremely well written. Typos are rare, it's easy to read, and the Exam Watch, 2 Minute Drill, and On The Job side bars quickly reinforce and further clarify covered concepts. Once I started in on this book I was amazed at how easy it is to flow right through the material. The included prep software is awesome too, you can pull up text from the book right in the middle of a practice test to bone up on what you missed while it's still fresh. All in all, extremely well worth the money ;)

Summary: This is a good book for the exam
Review: I do not know what the other Network books are like, so I will not say this is the best one. The fact is this is the only book I used to study for the Network plus exam and I recieve a 88% today. I am not a computer geek, the book is to the point and does not waste your time.

Summary: There are better books out there!
Review: I do not recommend this book for anyone. The idea of breaking the chapters up by certification requirements may be a good idea, but in practice does not work well. Ideas and concepts are often introduced without explination til a later chapter. There are major errors in the books. (Page 343 alone erronously claims Serial Connections are one-way only and parallel is the only two connection, and calls states USB is otherwise known as "Fire-Wire".

The included sample test software is poorly written. Every question is presented a multiple answer questions (check-boxes) even if there supposed to be only one answer. There is no way to choose the number of questions or review answers to questions answered correctly.

I found this book a very hard read. If I were studing for the Network+ test solely from a book, I would not recommend this book.

Summary: Fantastic
Review: I found this book extremly useful. This is the only text I used and Passed My net + test with a 96 %. I also used this text to teach a Net + class for my employer. Every student that I had that took the test passed. Well worth the money.

Review: I got the book last week, and have read it cover to cover. It's well written, and covers the exam really well. I found the self test and CD-ROM product very useful. I think that if you use this book to study, and have some experience, you'll be fine taking the exam.
