Summary: Covering the new exam objective by objective.
Review: Network+ is fast becoming necessary certification to gain employment as a basic network technician. This manual does cover the exam objectives, however there are needed improvements, especially in the grammar and typos.

The book does have over 50 exercises to work with and topics like basic network concepts, topologies, operating systems, protocols, the OSI model media and hardware start off the book. I didn't see any coverage of wireless technologies.

Also included is over 125 pages devoted to TCP/IP and there are 12 exercises which so far of the books I have seen, is the most coverage for the network+ exam. I like the author's breakdown of security and his troubleshooting techniques are also very good.

The book comes with a cdrom which has CertTrainer, a cbt review of the exam topics and objectives. Also ExamSim, a practice exam simulator with over 200 questions, plus over 200 in the book. The cd contains a complete e-book of the entire manual.

This book could be a self study or classroom manual and with a few improvements the book would make an excellent reference

Summary: Good source of Information.
Review: Okey, let's be fair, this book is not excellent! But is very good. It covers each and every one of the Objetives of the Network+ exam. But what most people seem to forget is that the Network+ exam is written for people who also have some experience in the area. They are some questions on the exam that test your common sense and experience. For example : How can you know what result a tracert, ping, nbtstat, arp or netstat command will look like, if you never have tried to use them? My advise is to buy this book or one similar, read it, practice with Windows NT Workstation or Server (because to get a Novell Server would be more complicate), buy another short book with test questions, like Exam Cram Network+ Practice Test (ISBN: 1-57610-484-2). I wouldn't suggest the Selftestsoftware practice test, I bought it only to find out that the questions for the test were bassed on the MS Press Networking Essentials book and they cover a lot of things that are not even mentioned on the Network+ objectives. The practice test should be your last resource, just to double check your knowledge and where your weaknesses are. Don't try to memorize the questions and answers, that is not going to help. And last but not least : GOOD LUCK!

Summary: Good Book
Review: Purchased the book and read it within a week. Took exam and passed easily. Good test questions and CD ROM.

Summary: Did the other reviewers even READ this book?
Review: Sometimes I have to question whether people throwing out 5 star reviews have even read the book or if they are just friends of the authors (or are the authors). This book has many factual errors (another possibility, the people giving 5 star reviews don't have the technical knowledge to know whether the book is accurate or not) and is sloppy. I'm a CCNP, MCSE+I, and MCT in charge of training for a global company with over 75,000 network nodes worldwide. We are looking to have all of our network engineers at a minimum certification level (network+) and so I've been evaluating training guides. This book isn't it. So far the frontrunners are Network+ Exam Prep (not the Exam Cram, it is too shallow to be of any real value after the exam) from Coriolis and Network+ Study Guide from Sybex.

Summary: Helpful - But...
Review: This book was helpful in studying for the test. I used this book as an aid in preparation for the test as one would use a classroom textbook by reading one chapter then taking self test. I will add this book to my reference library for future use as this book did provide good in-depth coverage of the subjects presented. However, the self test questions presented in the book did not, in my opinion, appear resemble the ones on the actual test. (Took actual test on 11/18/99 and passed with 88%.) Also the cd-rom that came with the book contained several errors when scoring the questions. Toss the cd-rom and use the book - the questions are the same and at least the answers are correct in the book.

Summary: If I could give it a ZERO, I Would!
Review: This will NOT prepare you for the Network+ exam. Don't take the chance, I dont know how the other people gave this book even 2 stars let alone 5!! Please don't get it. EVER! I wasted my money on it.
