Rating: Summary: There are better books for your money. Review: I like to find the good in all things so I will say something good about this book. This book takes a person new to networking and introduces it to them. It also tries to focus on what you need to pass the exam. I did not like the book. The information was presented with loads of mistakes from grammer to actual information. I used this book as one of the books to prepare me for my network plus test and found it a waste of money. It is better to get your information from as many sources as you can -just don't use this book. I also did not find the testing software that came with the book any help at all. None of the questions on the exam even remotely resemble the questions in the book. You find better value for money in books like networking complete for around 19.95. It is better to know all you can about networking in general than just the material to pass the test.

Rating: Summary: Use only if you want to pass the exam and not know Networks Review: I read this book and found many errors in the book. While someone new to networking and wanting the Network+ certification might find this book usefull, anyone that really wants to know networks may want to look elsewhere. I read this book hoping to find a book that my employees and interns could use as study materials just to find that there were many errors through out the book. It is very clear to me that the authors of the this book do not fully understand large scale networks and WAN's. I can not and will not recommend this book to anyone. For the record, I'm an MCSE, MCT, MCP+I, CNE, CCNA, COS2E, COS2I, CLSI, CLSE and A+ Hardware. I have been working in the field for more than 15 years.
Rating: Summary: Kiss fifty bucks goodbye! Review: I took the Net+ exam this morning, and used this book for prep. I cannot recall ONE question on the exam that remotely resembled anything in this book. The writing style is very uneven, with some sections being written at a fourth grade level, while others would take a college graduate several readings to be comprehensible. The text is full of errors, most of which are NOT included in the errata; UNIX is barely acknowledged (I had several unix questions on the exam). The most blatant error is the claim that the Network+ exam has a passing score of only 75%! I found the ExamCrams for MS Network Essentials, and TCP/IP to be more useful and relevant. Buy this book only if you want to kiss fifty bucks goodbye! Caveat emptor.
Rating: Summary: 3.5 stars, great information but you may need a second book Review: I used this book plus the Exam Cram book and got a 97. I have 3 yrs experience which also helped of course, but I felt after reading this book that I might be missing some details (and I'm not willing to be unprepared!) The exam cram book was a perfect complement. I agree with the other reviews, the authors are certainly knowledgeable about MS but their lack of unix knowledge was astonishing (however, they cover enough unix to pass). Overall it's a worthy, albeit MS-focused book. You will appreciate all the lessons/knowledge within, even if some of the info is not tested. I can recommend this book to beginners if they supplement their studies with another book (Exam Cram gets my vote), I suspect this book alone may not be enough for them. However experienced users may be able to pull off a decent score with just this book. Good luck! Nivek.
Rating: Summary: Network+ Certification Study Guide - Syngress Media Review: I used this book, along with Network+ Exam Cram, to study for the Net+ exam. This book does offer some decent coverage of topics and organization, however, there is a lot to be desired. Some topics lacked needed coverage while other topics weren't even covered. I found some errors in the book and it's accompanying CD. The book really lacked information pertaining to SCSI, Connectors, Novell & Unix. I wish this book's contents were as good as it's appearance.***
Rating: Summary: Strong Resource Review: I've found that this book has really improved my understanding of concepts, etc. The self tests are well-done, and the review sections of each chapter are a great way to do a quick glkance at the key chapter concepts. I'm happy with the book, and will continue to purchase this company's products.
Rating: Summary: Judge a book by it's cover! Review: If you want to pass the exam, then buy this book. If you want in-depth knowledge of networking, than go with something else. Having said that you may wonder why I gave this book 5 STARS. It is because this book does specifically what it is marketed to do, Help you pass the Network+ exam. Even on the cover itself it does nothing to try and hide this fact. If you look for key features like: Don't Let the real test be your first test, or when it says STUDY GUIDE instead of REFERENCE BOOK, or includes more than 300 exam questions, and the book isn't that long (672 pages of which maybe 450 won't be the Appendix, glossary, or chapter headings) so it will not go in-depth on a topic that is as broad as networking. These are all dead give aways that identify a book as being merely a test book. Even the book description above states:"Network+ Certification STUDY GUIDE offers classroom-proven pedagogy that is mapped directly to CompTIA's Network+ objectives with the SOLE PURPOSE OF HELPING CANDIDATES PASS THE EXAM." If I wanted a book to help me pass a Windows NT exam I would buy, "MCSE In a Nutshell." If I wanted an in-depth understanding of Windows NT, I would Buy "Windows NT from QUE". When shopping for a book ask yourself for what purpose am I buying this book for because there are few books that act as both good STUDY GUIDES AND REFERENCE BOOKS.
Rating: Summary: really good---nice photographs and exams Review: Just got it... Amazon is behind on this one. I would have waited for the better price, but my exam is Friday! It's really good. I checked to make sure it covered all the objectives because I bought an A+ book from someone that didn't cover everything. It all seems to be there. There's a section of good photos and the writing is pretty good. I recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: There are better books out there! Review: Most of the specifics are already out there in the negative reviews for this book - and the negative reviews are accurate! I only wish that I had read them before I purchased this book and its companion practice test volume. What I found most disappointing is that this book has been out on the market for quite some time and a set of definitive errata covering the entire book is not available from the publisher (I asked). This makes me wonder if the publisher is only interested in getting your money and not at all interested in giving their customers the most accurate and up to date information possible. The more serious issue is in the companion book, the practice exams. Take a look at my review under that volume for specifics, but that was a total waste of money. I will be gving any Syngress Media book a suspicious eye when moving on to other certification studies. They have likely lost a customer for life over this disappointing series. I don't trust their accuracy, and I definitely do not trust them to fix the problems in their books by providing comprehensive errata once the problems in their books are found. In my opinion, you should consider the Network+ Exam Prep and Cram books plus the Network+ Certification for Dummies book (plus consult some of the Network+ Certification web resources) if you are serious about learning what you really need to know to pass this exam.
