Rating: Summary: Give it a shot Review: This has done the job for me. Yeah, there are some typos and stuff, but nothing that can't be picked out by someone with a little VB experience. Seems like the company has them listed as well so you can find them. This book has helped me pass the exam, and I do actually reference it during every day work. I'm glad I bought it, and have used it to success.
Rating: Summary: Nothing good to say... Review: There is no structure to the material. Topics are not logically grouped together, instead they are broken up. The book goes into great detail on the fundamental, obvious stuff, but is so vague on complex areas where it really matters. The book tries to teach the technical material in a flamboyant manner , but in doing so makes the topics difficult to understand. There is a lot of unnecessary and sarcastic humour which just wastes time and paper and is annoying to read. The grammar is difficult to read and very often ambiguous and misleading. There are far too many errors and typos. There is a Web page that shows a long list of errors, but it is far from complete.
Rating: Summary: Give it a shot Review: Sure, there are typos, but I haven't noticed any grossly incorrect info. In fact, most of the info. I've looked at and read is pretty darn good. I realize we all expect perfection, but I've yet to see it in any study resource. If you really try it, and don't let these reviews scare you off, you'll get benefit from this book.
Rating: Summary: Not that bad Review: There are some errors, but seems that syngress has done a decent job of posting them on their site. Overall, the information here is good. Strong sections on Class modules, and Com components. I've had some VB experience, and the text did well in re-enforcing what I know, and helping me locate what I needed to learn. For the money, this was a good buy. I am not disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Book Review: the test was do-able with this book. the write-up on installing and configuring visual basic desktop was clear and concise . this book is about 5 inches thick, so it covers just about eveything. i can find no fault with this study package; thje cd was great for quick searches. i stuck with the text for most of my studying though.
Rating: Summary: Good book for the exam - I passed Review: I took the exam and passed with a score of 814. The only exam prep book I bought was this one. I don't know why other readers rated this book poorly. It covers all the areas that candidates are tested on thoroughly, although exercises in some areas would be really helpful (IIS apps, etc.) Negatives about this book: - There a LOT OF TYPOS - A lot of the questions are incorect I hope Syngress and the authors do a better job at QA, in the future.
Rating: Summary: I'd keep looking... Review: If you throw the CD away, the book may help you pass the test. Do not use the CD at all! You will be wasting your time memorizing menus and Microsoft doesn't expect you to do this to pass the exam. There is a lot of useless information in the book as well. Use your money on a different book.
Rating: Summary: Not too good! Review: I bought this book because it was the first available and am sorry I didn't wait around for some of the others. It is full of errors and the test questions are disapointing. This is not a book that I'd recommend to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Value Review: I ask other readers- where can you go wrong with this book? It has the 3 ingredients to successful absorption of material; exam objectives, concise instruction, and self test/consolidation. Seriously, if you're not happy with your score, it's not the book, it's you. If you want to be MCDBA Certified, expect to work for it.
Rating: Summary: This book is not worth even the paper it is printed on Review: I bought this book a few weeks ago to help me prepare for the Microsoft 70-176 exam. From cover to cover it only contained irrelevant information, long descriptions of the EDI and nothing else. The questions contained in the book and accompanying CD are not worth reading. It's a shame to publish such book.
