Rating: Summary: Barely better than nothing... Review: If you can't get any other book on the subject.... Still don't buy this one. You'd be better off using the help files built in to VB.
Rating: Summary: Chapter 3 errors Review: Found few errors in Chapter 3 examples Started to dislike the book on chapter 3, found 3 errors.
Rating: Summary: 70-80 per cent of the book is junk Review: This book was written by many people, and it shows. Some chapters are really scary, especially in the beginning. Whoever wrote them seems to have no idea. Some other parts are perhaps OK but then again maybe it is because I know less about those things and cannot judge well.
Rating: Summary: Good Enough... Review: the section on ADO wasnt perfect, but the rest of the guide makes up. good active X control examples. i hasd to retake the test, but used this book fo the second shot and passed woith a decent score.
Rating: Summary: I am actually using this book on the job, ( I passed) Review: This book gave me the know-how to master the Visual Basic Desktop Apps. exam. it has enough material to cover all aspects of the test. the section on enforcing data integrity was really good, as were the other parts on advanced data access issues. Good Buy.
Rating: Summary: The test is buggy but overall its not a bad study guide. Review: I used this book and the Microsoft training CD to study for the test. I passed the test. The practice test on the CD with the book has many errors. But it was a good review for the test. The book does not follow all of Microsofts praticies. The book did not cover everything that was on the real test. I wish the book covered everything on the Microsoft training CD. However, I think this book will help anyone studying for the test provided they also have other study material.
Rating: Summary: Keep searching. I'm sure there are better books. Review: At one point in the book the author offers some coding guidelines, then in the examples, procedes to violate them. Several times the reader is told that a particular concept is very important - and it will be explained later. However it never is.
Rating: Summary: Too many mistakes in the book Review: There are simply too many mistakes in the self tests questions and answers. If your purpose is to prepare yourself to take the exam, this is a wrong book to read. David Li
Rating: Summary: This book is only for VB beginner but not for MCSD exam Review: After I finished reading each chapters, I have to really read other books to get more understanding what this book try to teach you. Why don't I read other books instead?
Rating: Summary: Read the book and disregard the CD Review: This book is great and will be added to my library of resources. I have yet to take the test, but I can already tell a big improvement on my knowledge base just from reading this book. I have coupled the information from this book with my programming at work to help complete my knowledge of VB. The Key is the book and not the CD. Almost all the negative reviews have come from people who want the quick readiness of the CD and are not patient enough with the book. If you program and use VB, this book is sure to help with the test and all challenges afterwards. Look into investing the $40 into this book.
