Summary: Pretty good, but you'll need more info to pass
Review: Read this book and studied the exam questions provided by the cd. I also bought the MS Readiness Review book w/cd. The Readiness Review book's questions resembled the actual questions on the test. This book is a good study tool although the sample tests don't accurately mirror the questions on the test. I'll use this conbination for my other tests until I find that they aren't adequate. It would be nice if they gave some answers to their "real world" problems.

Summary: Very detailed book. Helpful CD's
Review: I just pass the exam with the help of this book and Microsoft's Study guide. This book is very detailed and covers the exam objectives one-by-one (very helpful). The CDs also are very good containing training courses and tests. Microsoft's Study guide it is more condensed but contains some things you wouldn't found in Sybex's book. Also contains a test very similar with the original I just took. If you cannot buy both try this one as your first choice. I recommended without hesitation. Good Luck!!!

Summary: Another good MCSE book from Sybex
Review: I used this book together with the Test Success book from Sybex. I pass the exam with a score of 900. One more thing! This book have a few typo errors. Please use the errata sheets provided at the Sybex web site.

Summary: Part of what it takes to pass.
Review: I used this book in combination with Exam Cram notes and I got a 900. The book is easy to read, but as with any MCSE course, do not use any ONE book. I wil recommend this book as a cornerstone in any study sessions for the 70-058 exam.

Summary: Get the set, not just this book.
Review: I'm as green as they come, and I bought this set (study guide, exam notes, test success) by a friend's recommendation who is a MCSE+I and a CNE. The extraordinary aspect of this book is the way it gently leads the beginner through a vast sea of information. I have the NT Server set as well. Between the three N.E. books I feel I'm fairly well prepared. I have more work, of course.

I do have a suggestion for the authors, however. Grammatical and spelling errors, wordiness, as well as unexplained acronyms are disruptive to a student's concentration. Words like "cabling" are confusing verb transitives/intransitives, not nouns (in English, anyway), regardless of the trade lingo. When we get there, okay, we'll use the slang. Also, Appendix A is entirely redundant.

Since you three are dedicated Microsoft folks and must use Word, it does have a grammar and spell checker. Demonstrating that you use that software only enhances students'understanding and displays your expertise in the topic. Properly edited, you could easily eliminate 100 pages from the study guide alone without deleting information. This would cut down your publishing costs, so you could hopefully pass the savings to us. Thank you.

Summary: The book you need.
Review: You can pass the exam using only this book. Very few MCSE study guides cover an exam A-Z, many need to be supplemented. But this book is all you need to pass the Networking Essentials exam.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Full of the details you'll need to pass
Review: To pass the Networking Essentials exam, you need to know all sorts of details. Sybex has done, in our opinion and the opinion of hundreds of students whom we've surveyed, the most comprehensive job of including all the critical information. It might not be the most interesting read in the world, but it does get the job done. This book is on the MCSETutor.com recommended list.

Summary: A Good Start
Review: I used this book in conjunction with a 1st Edition of Microsoft's Networking Essentials text and Sybex's own Exam Cram to score 966/1000 on my 70-058. I had a limited amount of experience with Ethernet, but not much else. I found that reading this book prior to Microsoft's made the latter text a little easier to swallow. I finished with the exam cram and then came back to this book to brush up on any weak points revealed in taking the two sample tests.

Be warned that the material doesn't match the exams all that well; there's a lot here that's extraneous, and a lot that isn't covered. On the whole, though, I felt that this provided me the basis for attacking the Microsoft text, which dealt much more closely with the material in the exam.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I studied this book for about 2 weeks and passed exam 70-58 the adaptive version with a score of 668 (552 is the cut). The book is very good, however it went into some details about things like wireless computing and radio, that were beyond the scope for the exam. I recommend that if you buy this book, that you also look at other study materials also. There are lots of great internet sites. And take all of the practice tests that you can get a hold of. The key to all of this is STUDY, STUDY, STUDY. KNOW YOUR MATERIALS! Overall a good book, buy the whole core set.

Summary: Sybex a better choice
Review: I have read Sybex's networking essentials book as well as the one written by Syngress. The one written by Sybex was in my opinion better. The Syngress book had many mistakes and didn't cover as much material. The Sybex book was written in a clear, concise logical manner which made it easier to read and follow.
