Rating: Summary: MCSETutor.com Recommended Book! Review: Many people take the Networking Essentials test first so it's important to have a good detailed reference guide handy. The Sybex study guide has a lot of information and should be on your Must-Have list for this exam. It's a pretty good value as well. The only downside to the book was that it includes some irrelevant information such as the lengthy section on wireless networking. Feel free to check out our site for a detailed review of this and other Networking Essentials books.
Rating: Summary: This book is a great place to start studying for exam 70-058 Review: Networking Essentials Study Guide provides a good foundation in computer networking and will help you on your way to pass exam 70-058. However, the questions both in the book and on the CD ROM are much easier then the actual test. If you want to pass this test (the first time) I would suggest that you start here and be sure to move on to additional resources. Good luck :)
Rating: Summary: Good overall, excessive amount of errors, easy questions Review: This Sybex book has overall good coverage of the topics that the MOC covers. However, the book lacks in the area of technical accuracy, with a very long list of known errors and approx. 15 other errors that I submitted for review. The book also contradicts itself many times. The SYBEX Net Ess study notes (0782122914) offers more concise reading with reasonable scope in half the length. It is a better prep tool. I would still like to see harder questions than the ones in both these books, as they offer little indication of the difficultly level of ms tests.
Rating: Summary: Great Reference, Great Detail. Everything To Pass Review: I read a condensed book before this one about Net Esstials. Took a practise test and scored low. This book went into greater and more pertinent detail about all the things the test would ask you. Plus it is a great desk reference. After reading this book I scored very high and I felt I know more about Core Networking in the process.
Rating: Summary: Decent MCSE book Review: This is a decent book to help you pass the Networking Essentials test. The review questions are not quite as hard as the ones on the real test but it does provide for about 75% of what you'll need to know. It's a good book especially for someone new to networking. Don't rely soley on this book to help you pass, but I definitley think you should read it at least once.
Rating: Summary: If you want MCSE, you want this book Review: I'm a 16 year old student wanting a head start. I bought Net Essentials and figured I'll muddle through it over the next 5 or 6 months, WRONG! This book was so easily understood and the figures and graphics were magnificent. I took the exam after 2 months and passed first time. A great book for anyone wanting the MSCE.
Rating: Summary: Generally well written - but don't rely on it! Review: This book is worth buying for a few reasons. It is reasonably well written, informative, beneficial and also for a pretty good price. However, I took the adaptive exam last week and although I passed I felt that the test questions in the book were a poor indication of the actual exam. But having said that, I did pass and I do find that the book will make a reasonable reference guide for the future. But if you are someone who possibly wants to make a living from this, i.e. you want to become a network consultant, it may be worth buying something else as well.
Rating: Summary: boring reading, but has all the facts you'll need Review: First test I took and passed easily. This text with Exam Cram and MCPPREP practice test software made test 70-58 a "no sweat" experience.
Rating: Summary: Net Essentials in words you can understand Review: Two people were studying for the Net Essentials exam. One bought the Sybex the other the official Microsoft counterpart. Both of us used Transcender exams. Sybex passed on the first attempt with a 896 the other borrowed the Sybex and passed on the second attempt. Both of us work on a large NT 4.0 WAN. It is not that this book has more content, but it's wording is much more understandable.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Topical Treatment Of Networking Review: I found this book to be an excellent resource in studying for the Networking Essentials Exam... Of particular help are the CD's which give instructor based explanations of OSI, equipment, Connectors, theory, etc. The samples tests are good preparation, and are like the real thing. At the price quoted for this book, it's a bargain!
