Summary: Networking essentials book (Sybex)
Review: Very informative yet it seems Microsofts exams are still a few steps ahead of it. Explanations and examples seemed extremely general, especially the troubleshooting tools. More detail needs to be added to each chapter and item. And give us the answers to the real world scenarios! True/false questions, forget it, pointless. More scenario based questions. Overall very well written and extremely helpful.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good book to read, if you are cramming for the test
Review: As other reviews have noted this book does contain errors. While I found this book invaluable as a resource for passing the Networkinng Essentials exam I have found it of little use otherwise as it only details the terminology used during the test. This is not a good reference for a network administrator.

Summary: Good resource for test
Review: This is one of two Sybex books I would recommend. The other being Server in the Enterprise. This book will cover the networking essentials basics to help pass the test. Good reference.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Nice book shame about the mistakes.
Review: I read the book 3 times and I passed the test with a score of 862 in 10 minutes. The book is good except for the large no of mistakes (you can get an errata from the sybex site). I recommend that you read the book and do a lot of tests ie trancender, netprep etc.

Summary: Thorough book to pass the test
Review: Passed the Networking Essentials test yesterday with a 913 after reading this book twice. I would definitely recommend this book to others, though sometimes it went into details that were not covered on the test. I read this book after reading the NT Workstation book (and passing that test), and I would suggest anyone who is not familiar with NT Workstation or Server to do the same before reading this somewhat technical book.

Summary: Great Overall Networking Book and Very Easy to Read
Review: Even if you are not studying for the test this is a great overall networking information book. If you are studying for the exam then this book will do just fine. Add in the www.mcpprep.com exam simulation test software and a pass is almost guaranteed!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent book for the Networking Essentials MCSE exam.
Review: Having read this only this book I passed the exam with a 931. It needs carefull reading though, and you'd better have read (and taken the exams) for Server and Server in the Enterprise. The exam deals with many things that the book does not get into much detail.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best book for MCSE
Review: If you want to be an MCSE this is the only book you need to buy. If you have already passed the server and the workstation exams then this book will get you through the networking essentials exam. I passed it within a week of buying this book. Only reason I did not give this book perfect 10 because of the errors and the review questions that are too softcore. You need extra resources for multiple scenario questions. Also, the Edge Test software included in the CD is not compatible with either Windows 95 or NT 4.0.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Very Good Study Guide
Review: Most of the questions on the Networking Essentials certification exam can be found somewhere in this book. However, the True / Fals questions at the end of each chapter are a bit soft-core. The section on wireless technology - which is rarely covered on the exam - is a little too long. Overall, this is a great Study Guide.

Summary: Good Book once you get around the errors
Review: While this is a good study for the MCSE exam, the errors often cause a great deal of confusion. Starting early on, the author messes up the diagrams on topology. There are errors in the tests as well. With careful reading, you will get past the confusion and begin to understand the concepts. This book needs a revision to get a higher rating
