Rating: Summary: I passed with the aid of this book! Review: I passed the network essentials by only reading this title! This book is very valuable, easy to read. It almost covered every aspects possible in the real exams
Rating: Summary: Success guide Review: I have read every single word of the book, and I did this in less than two weeks. I used to get computer books from libraries but I was never been able to finish a single chapter word by word. This book, from the very beginning gives me a feeling that the topic/exam I am preparing for is very easy. And now I feel confident that I can pass the 70-58 MCSE exam. A beginner who has no previous knowledge of computers/networking can also use this book without any problem. The appendix on PC fundamentals and glossary are good help for novice
Rating: Summary: The best study guide for the MCSE Networking Essentials exam Review: This is a MUST HAVE text to prepare for the MCSE exam. It'swell written, concise and more thoroughly covers what will be asked onthe exam than the comparable MSPress text. A few flaws kept it from being the perfect study guide. There were a couple of points where Sybex either differed from the Microsoft study guide or omitted a minor (but tested) topic entirely. All in all, it is best MCSE prep guide on the market. I easily passed the exam on the first try, and I will be buying more of this series as I continue my MCSE studies...
Rating: Summary: Great book for anyone wanting to be an MCSE. Review: This is a great book for anyone wanting to pass the Microsoft 70-58 Networking Essentials exam.
This book tells you all you need to know to pass the exam in an easy, well written way. It covers networking technologies, planning, implementation, and troubleshooting.
I read it once, and I scored a 913 (out of 1000) points on the exam.
The reason for not giving the book a 10, is that I missed some information on Microsoft networking, specifically the NetBIOS interface. (But that was one question out of 56)
This looks to be another great series from SYBEX. I am currently reading the MCSE: NT Workstation Study Guide, and are looking forward to the server books.
Rating: Summary: Okay, but author(s) confuses Audio Freqs and Radio Freqs. Review: Chapter One error. Figure 1.10 duplicates Figure 1.14
Chapter Two error. Figure 2.12 implies Audio Freqs are a
part of the EM spectrum. Audio Freqs
(voice freqs) are no more a part of the
EM spectrum than ocean wave freqs are.
You cannot hear a VLF power freq or a telephone freq unless you have a electronic hearing aid (radio, speaker,
or some sort of EM to Audio transducer)
Rating: Summary: great book! Review: This book is chock full of networking goodness
Rating: Summary: Not A Beginner's Guide Review: If you want to pass the Networking Essentials exam then this is the book to get!!! Easily worded allowing the reader to have a clear and precise understanding of network topologies, cabling and protocols and other important areas as well. Added with the Networking Essentials exam notes and you are bound to pass the exam.
Rating: Summary: Basic Information Review: I was very disappointed with this book. The information covered in the book was not helpful in preparing for the Networking Essentials exam. The book covered basic terminology, concepts that can be found in other books with less errors. I would not recommend this book in preparing for the Networking Essentials exam.
Rating: Summary: Too many errors Review: One thing which really annoys me about this book is the number of errors. This book has em all, incorrectly labeled diagrams, inconsistencies in units of measurements-half the time the author uses feet and the rest meters makes it a very frustrating experience trying to do comparisons. For some reason, this module of the MCSE suffers from a lack of good books, there doesn't seem to be anything better out there!
Rating: Summary: Save your money, there are better books on the topic Review: The truth is that it is a very good book. Well written, easy toread, great review questions and the CDs also have some interestinginfo on it, even though they are demos. It is, however, missing a little of real world info. For example in Ch.4 it mentions 100VG-AnyLAN. The only place I have seen that is in this book. I had to research to find out that it was implemented by one University some years ago but no one else uses it. It did not mention that in the book at all (that it was not widely used). I also agree that it needs to be used in conjunction with the other books that form the set if you plan to actually take the exam...
